Coco Gauff

Mandatory Credit: Photo by Alfonso Jimenez/Shutterstock (12951314bd) Cori Gauff wins first round Roland Garros French Open Tennis, Day 1, Roland Garros, Paris, France - 22 May 2022

I'm excited for Coco's semifinal. (She and her doubles partner Jessica Pegula also made the doubles quarterfinals, but Pegula has her singles quarterfinal like two hours before, so...?!?!?). Anyway, I like Coco's top. I don't know how I feel about the filmy skirt part.

Mandatory Credit: Photo by Alfonso Jimenez/Shutterstock (12951314bf) Cori Gauff wins first round Roland Garros French Open Tennis, Day 1, Roland Garros, Paris, France - 22 May 2022

At first I thought maybe it would work better if the shorts had been the same color as the top, but then I decided it would make the overlay look sillier. (Also, Coco's first name is Cori, and Informative Caption INSISTS on calling her Cori Gauff, except for one passive-aggressive day in the middle when it wrote Cori "Coco" Gauff before going back to Cori. It's not WRONG, but she plays as Coco, so it just made me laugh. Informative Caption has FEELINGS about what it should say.)

Jelena Ostapenko

Mandatory Credit: Photo by YOAN VALAT/EPA-EFE/Shutterstock (12958321mh) Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia hits a forehand in the women's second round match against Alize Cornet of France during the French Open tennis tournament at Roland Garros in Paris, France, 26 May 2022. French Open tennis tournament at Roland Garros, Paris, France - 26 May 2022

This outfit is the whole reason I am doing this post, basically. I forgot about it for a minute and then caught a little of this match and yelped aloud and wrote down her name. It is BONKS and I'm so happy about it. I love houndstooth, I love pink, I love stripes, and I NEVER expected to see them on a tennis court. The shoulder ruffles are kind of what push this into Wackytown.

This is the face I made during the entire second set of Nadal-Djokovic.

Absolutely not a fan of this color scheme.

Sloane Stephens

Mandatory Credit: Photo by Javier Garcia/Shutterstock (12942474t) Sloane Stephens in first round action French Open Tennis, Day 1, Roland Garros, Paris, France - 22 May 2022

Sloane only has a little bit of the yellow as an accent, and it's better. But the little rib vent is so weird on this design.

Emma Raducanu

Mandatory Credit: Photo by David Winter/Shutterstock (12943972mq) Emma Raducanu of Great Britain celebrates her first round victory French Open Tennis, Day 2, Roland Garros, Paris, France - 23 May 2022

Honestly, it ends up looking more like a snag than a choice. (I like the mint and grey the best so far.)

Qinwen Zheng

Mandatory Credit: Photo by David Winter/Shutterstock (12956180fn) Qinwen Zheng of China celebrates beating Simona Halep of Romania French Open Tennis, Day 5, Roland Garros, Paris, France - 26 May 2022

I want to pause to acknowledge her for the fact that she took the first set off No. 1 Iga Swiatek, then lost the match after getting hit with horrible menstrual cramps. That's the first time in my memory that anyone has been so frank about that, and the fact that, yes, they CAN be super debilitating no matter what you do.

Simona Halep

Mandatory Credit: Photo by David Winter/Shutterstock (12956180fp) Simona Halep of Romania French Open Tennis, Day 5, Roland Garros, Paris, France - 26 May 2022

And! Simona lost to Qinwen Zheng in the second round, and later admitted she had a panic attack during the match. People are really going through it right now, and I sincerely applaud her for talking about it, because it can't be easy to open yourself up to that. As our next slide subject well knows.

Naomi Osaka

Mandatory Credit: Photo by David Winter/Shutterstock (12943972ag) Naomi Osaka of Japan French Open Tennis, Day 2, Roland Garros, Paris, France - 23 May 2022

It's good to see Naomi back. And she got some really fun colors, which tracks, as she's their highest-profile athlete right now. But the brighter they are, the more you can see what a goofy assemblage of blobs the pattern is.

Paula Badosa

Mandatory Credit: Photo by Alfonso Jimenez/Shutterstock (12955717cn) Paula Badosa Gibert wins against Fiona Ferro, first round French Open 2022, Roland Garros, Day 3, Paris, France - 24 May 2022

These are probably the colors I would pick if it were me, and yet also, what a random-ass mosaic.

Paula Badosa

I'm into the matching shoes with the orange laces.

Maria Sakkari

Adidas is doing this funky hieroglyph-looking situation, although I really do not like a) the sneakers with it, and b) the sneakers, period. Adidas has such a recognizable logo, and it is not that massive one right there.

Aliaksandra Sasnovich

The pink is nice, too.

Iga Swiatek

Mandatory Credit: Photo by David Winter/Shutterstock (12943972bs) Iga Swiatek of Poland French Open Tennis, Day 2, Roland Garros, Paris, France - 23 May 2022

Iga is the 21-year old phenom whose 32-match win streak is approaching Serena's record of 34. I did not see that coming! Also, I look at these photos and think it's a miracle that she still has working ankles.

Barbara Krejcikova

Irina-Camelia Begu

Her outfit is very cute. Unfortunately for her, she made Sportscenter because she chucked her racket angrily, and did it so hard that the racket BOUNCED and flew into the stands, making a child cry out of fear (thankfully it didn't hit him, or anyone). Begu was issued a code violation and some thought she should have been disqualified. I am sure she felt terrible -- she apologized and essentially said she was shocked it bounced like that.

Diane Parry

Alizé Cornet

This is a slicker version though.

Martina Trevisan

She just beat the delightful Leylah-Annie Fernandez and is in the semis, so congrats to her. With internationally beloved record-setter Roger Federer winding down (assuming he hasn't already played his last), Switzerland must be excited to have another player on the come-up. I'm into her orange kit.

Kaia Kanepi

I'm not loving the dull, dirty-looking grey on this. It's SO samey and it needs a pop of other color to come alive.

Carlos Alcaraz

I'm glad Cilic got a big win (against Medvedev). Bring back the thunder, Marin. Also I can't tell if his shorts are white, or light pink, or a result of things bleeding in the laundry, or what.

Nadal

Reilly Opelka

Daniil Medvedev

Mandatory Credit: Photo by Javier Garcia/Shutterstock (12954043an) Daniil Medvedev from Russia wins in straight sets French Open Tennis, Day 3, Roland Garros, Paris, France - 24 May 2022

I like his shirt, and I love his socks, but I don't think they work together. Daniil also seems to be whining a lot about the fans not liking him enough, and I am alllllll the way over these grown men thinking they're entitled to fan support.

Cameron Norrie

And he got the other. He ran into Nadal in a great five-setter, and I feel for him. I would love to see him break through, but right now I'm really jonesing for another Nadal run for as long as we can have them.

Jo-Wilifried Tsonga

It must have been a little awkward, though, because they had a whole ceremony, which they must've had ready the whole time to deploy whenever they needed it. Look at the shirts! And his little noodles! Fare thee well, Tsonga.
