That depressing cover line aside: The photo is GREAT. Her big tousled hair is perfect, her face is connecting -- she evokes Naomi Watts without ever making me think, "Is that Naomi Watts?" -- and as much as I wouldn't like that Saint Laurent outfit in real life, it plays very nicely on this cover.

Even with her hair in her face, this is good. I don't know why she needed to be gripping a sneezeguard, though. Is she at Sizzler?

Elle China went mad for Alexa Chung this month. TONS of photos of her inside. The cover is pretty good, but she looks like she's about to suck on her own hair. Between this and the *Paper Towns* poster, the world wants us all snacking on keratin, I guess.

[Fug and Fab the Covers: Various Elle Magazines, August 2015I like a lot of things about this cover, but here's one that I don't: the cover line "What Hot Girls Know." Because that's Elle presenting The Hot Girl to you, handing the concept down from on high, as something that you the reader must not be -- thereby implying not only implying we are all so very ordinary, but that being hot is aspirational and that The Wisdom of the Attractive is what's missing in your life. For a magazine that purports to be for smart women, well-rounded ones, that comes across as disappointingly Lad Mag (as do some of the provided Robbie excerpts).
