The pros of Kate Hudson: She wears clothes well; she seems like a good sport who doesn't take things too seriously; this would be grand if it were a dress. IT IS NOT.

Her boob job was subtle, she doesn't need a bracelet, she never seems like she's bored to be wherever she is, and also First Wives Club really holds up. Which has nothing to do with her, but if she's reading this right now, please do tell your Mom, Kate.

Here's the thing: This isn't really my jam, but as jumpsuits go, this is well-deployed and right for the event. It's also worth noting that Tootsie's Dorothy Michaels would LOVE IT, except she wouldn't want to wear it due to her hairy chest. (Young people, if there are any of you out there, watch Tootsie this weekend. It's great, and everyone is in it. Jessica Lange is so young and perfect and there's a scene where Bill Murray makes very subtle stage business of eating a lemon. While I'm assigning stuff, also watch Broadcast News, which ALSO has an iconic dress I like to reference here on occasion and also a really great heroine and a brilliant love triangle. WE'LL DISCUSS AT THE NEXT CLASS MEETING.)

I feel like if I were a subscriber to HB and this popped up in my mailbox, there would be a long moment when I assumed this was the new blonde model of the moment. Which actually is kind of a compliment to Kate, I suppose.

I actually think this cover is really good. She looks warm and inviting. It's cheerful. Sure, it looks like May -- NOTHING about this says December/January, other than "gift guide" -- but I don't think I'd make a face at it if I saw in line at the market while I was trying to buy coffee grounds and Milk Duds or whatever. Wow, this all turned out so much nicer than it started in my head.
