## Downton Tours!

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://storage.ghost.io/c/bf/b9/bfb99790-924d-4e41-a7e6-5e3c6e04fe57/content/images/static-gofugyourself-com/uploads/2016/02/img_1900.jpg)

I actually really, really liked the subplot here. It all came together quite nicely. You see, it as been decided that they're going to open Downton to the public for the day, to raise money -- as you see in this poster! -- for the hospital trust. We'll get into this in greater depth later, but it is Branson who notes, at the end of the episode, that they made so much money doing it for one day that opening the house to the public on the regular might be a good way to keep Downton afloat. And, of course, that is exactly how many of these great houses did and do manage to keep themselves afloat and in the family (including the people at Highclere, where Downton is filmed; the increased visitors thanks to the show in fact, have made it possible for Highclere to make a number of super expensive repairs). The care and preservation of Great Britain's Great Houses is a cause very close to Julian Fellowes's heart -- and one of my own special interests, actually, because I love Old Buildings -- and you can tell that he's legit interested in the way keeping them open for the public has saved many of them.

## Downton Resets

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1904.jpg)

So, Lord G is recovering from his surgery -- he appears to be able to eat some things, for those of us wondering if he was totally stomach-less -- but he is confined to his bedroom, which means that many of the convos the family would have had around the breakfast table are now happening around his bed, where he is tired and cranky BUT ALIVE THANK GOD. Stay alive, Robert! He crabbily notes that he has no idea what they even think they're going to show the public -- they only have, like, you know, 20 or 30 pieces of priceless art. (AND ONE MISSING PRICELESS BOOK.) He grouses that the villagers would be better off spending their money on a train to London to go to the Tate, and the entire idea is "crackers." But Mary and Tom note that, honestly, what the villagers want is to nose around the house. "See how the other half live," Lord G translates. YES. EXACTLY. THANK YOU. Let me into your pretty house to nose around, Lord G.

## Downton Doubters

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1907.jpg)

As you can imagine, Carson thinks letting the riffraff into the house is A TERRIBLE IDEA. "What's to stop them from slipping the odd first edition into their back pocket?" he grouses. Hey, maybe THAT'S what happened to the Gutenberg Bible!

Anyway, now that I've got this shot of Thomas here, let me tell you what happens with him this week: Carson sees Andy leaving Thomas's quarters late at night, where Thomas has been teaching Andy to read. Andy is squirrelly about it, and Carson FINALLY sacks Thomas, believing that there's some kind of assignation happening AND also because this lay-off has been coming for weeks, and Thomas knows it. Thomas is sad sad sad and we end the episode with him crying in the dark. Which is unfortunate, and I felt bad for him, but I think this is all going to work out for the best for him in the end (In part because Mary came across him frolicking with George and has noted several times that he's good with the children, so I suspect she will make things right for him.)

Additionally: Bates is also really annoying about how he doesn't get why anyone would want to see inside someone else's house, and Anna points out that it's because he's totally incurious about other people, which is, by the way, A TERRIBLE TRAIT FOR A PERSON TO HAVE. Daisy, of course, is like, "WHAT GIVES PEOPLE THE RIGHT TO KEEP OTHER PEOPLE OUT OF THEIR HOUSES?!" which...dude, I know Daisy is now a communist or whatever, but she's smart enough to understand private property. I hope. Otherwise her tests will go poorly.

## Downton Tea Parties

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1912.jpg)

First, and most importantly, this shot is just so perfectly framed, and the china they're using for their tea is GLORIOUS. I am really going to miss this show. Anyway, Violet -- of course -- also doesn't understand why anyone would pay to see "a perfectly normal house," and Isobel must explain the definition of normal, which leads into a charming little digression about *Pride and Prejudice*. They then discuss the hospital plan, again, some more, forever. BUT! What they're *really* talking about is the fact that Lord Merton appears to be gaining traction in Isobel's heart again. I love love love love The Love Triangle of the Woman of a Certain Age. I might be more invested in who Isobel will end up with than I am in Lady Mary, and that's saying something.

## Downton Get a Grip

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1915.jpg)

Daisy is being such a weirdo this week about Mr Mason and Mrs Patmore. Mason gives Daisy a thank you note for Mrs Patmore, for all her help with his move, and Daisy is like, "why are you writing her a note? She knows you're grateful," and Mason is kind of like, "JUST GIVE HER THE FREAKING NOTE DAISY," and Daisy promptly "loses" said note (and when Mrs Patmore finds it, it's been opened) and later she has a TOTAL HISSY when Mr Mason pops by with a gift for Mrs Patmore and it's all totally rude. DAISY. You are acting like a six year old who doesn't want her father to get remarried to a very nice woman, except you are an ADULT and Mr Mason and Mrs Patmore have both been beyond lovely to you for your entire life. I don't even understand what we are supposed to think Daisy's petulance over this blooming friendship/romance is motivated by. If she were a child, it would be easy -- jealousy, protecting her mother, whatever. But she is a grown person and she is being BIZARRE. At least her hat is decent.

## Downton Nips

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1916.jpg)

In which Carson offers A MAN WHOSE ULCER BURST ALL OVER HIS PERFECTLY SET DINNER TABLE a nip of booze. Lord G has the good sense to pass, but I wanted to bang Carson's head against the gong. They then have the 57th conversation about how they have to streamline the staff, and Lord G makes a joke about opening the house to the public in which he cracks that in order for the aforementioned public to get their money's worth, they're going to need to get to see Lady Mary in the bath. Carson is SCANDALIZED. (I giggled.)

## Downton Goodnights

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1922.jpg)

This is a rather modern nightie on Cora, who smooches Robert and exposits for all of us that he would NOT have died if the Hospital Switch-o-Change-o had happened because yada yada yada OH MY GOD I LOVE YOU GUYS BUT THIS HOSPITAL THING IS TAKING FOREVER. Although I do think it's rather coming to a head in this episode. (Please, god, let this have been climax of this plot. Not right here. Later. We'll get to it!)

## Downton Lighting Schemes

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1923.jpg)

Bates and Anna need to turn up the lights. Jeez. People are going to think they're plotting a murder in there. At any rate, I only really included this shot because it is in this scene where Anna notes that she's not feeling well -- she turns out to be fine, just pregnant and uncomfortable; this better not be foreshadowing, Julian Fellowes! -- and Bates says they're "done with" this whole thing where they don't tell each other things. To which I say THANK GOD. You two are about three years and two murders too late with this new policy, but we'll take it regardless.

## Downton Cottages

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1924.jpg)

Look at how charming the Carson/Hughes cottage is! I want to move in! And then redecorate, because the inside is glum. It seems to me that being married to Carson is terrible. Here, he's instructing Mrs Hughes that she needs to talk to Mrs Patmore about how to best make their coffee at home in the morning. MAKE YOUR OWN COFFEE, CARSON. He ALSO thinks Mrs Hughes needs to learn how to make their marital bed with sharper corners. MAKE YOUR OWN BED, CARSON. I understand that this is all coming from a place of him having been a butler for yonks, and also the time period, but Carson As Husband seems to have few redeeming qualities, and I am starting to regret this marriage for Mrs Hughes. (I assume, and hope, she will eventually call him a great booby, smack him with a feather duster, and explain she's not in his employ, but still.)

## Downton Eiderdown

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1925.jpg)

Don't worry. Mary (and her fabulous eiderdown) is perfectly willing to take Anna up to see her Expensive Fancy Lady Doctor to check in on her Mysterious Uncomfortableness...and also to see Henry Talbot.

## Downton HR Drama

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1930.jpg)

And the hospital plot has come to a crisis. The Take-Over is happening and Violet is OUT as the President of the Board (as they can't keep on someone who worked so ardently against this change) and CORA IS IN. Cora, Dr Clarkson, and Isobel exchange a variety of expressions that are basically like, "SHIT'S ABOUT TO GET REAL." Cora expresses this with an elegant, "golly. They've sacked the captain," as she sinks into a chair in her lovely hat. And, despite being terrified by the idea of taking over for Violet, she is thrilled by the idea of having a job.

## Downton Letter Writing

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1939.jpg)

So, Mary's called Evelyn Napier to make London dinner plans -- presumably playing on the news we got last week, that he's in still love with her, which is sort of...unsporting? Although I suppose they ARE friends. Anyway, the plan is that she's going to surpise Henry. And Branson is going to come up with her, because Branson LOVES chaperoning Mary on these things because he really really needs her to marry Henry so he'll have someone else to talk to. They're chatting about this in front of Edith, sitting here in the front room where no one ever sits, and she and Mary, of course, snipe at each other: "Edith, you can manage for a day without us, can't you?" Mary asks. "I can manage without you for AS LONG AS YOU WANT," Edith says, which is a very Mary-ish retort, to which Mary just rolls her eyes and goes upstairs. Tom invites her to come up to London with them, and Edith notes that she has no desire to watch "Mary flirt with her oily driver," and that she's just as pleased for Mary's romantic success as Mary would be for her. Tom finds this all highly amusing. As one would have to be in order not to push them into the Downton well at some point. (You'd fish them out pretty quickly. But still.)

## Downton Exteriors

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1944.jpg)

Mary's whole travelling outfit is terrific AND the front of the house continues to be beautiful, in case you'd gotten worried. They made a lot of use out of the exterior of Highclere this week -- get your hero shots of the property in while you can, after all. Anyway, there's all this blah about who's going to pay for Anna's doctor visit, but in the end, Branson convinces Mary to let Bates pay (as he had requested). That was kind of a non-story, but I thought you might want to eyeball the house a bit.

## Downton Schoolhouse Rock

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1950.jpg)

In case you are wondering, we're being set up for Molesley to become a teacher. The Downton schoolmaster, in fact, basically offers to hire him if Molesley can pass a test of the schoolteacher's own devising. Which is a delightful, if not wholly surprising, development. Good on you, Molesley. This is so much better than the time you decided to join the Hair Club for Men.

## Downton Smug

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1954.jpg)

Have you ever seen a person more perfectly embody the phrase, "that cat that got the cream"? Sadly, what Violet doesn't know is, she not only doesn't have the cream, she's totally out of cream and her neighbors don't care to loan her any. The Dowager Countess has come over to visit Lord G, and tells everyone assembled that she plans to be highly magnanimous in victory vis a vis the hospital, as she's SURE Lord G's recent health scare has won the day for her. No one corrects her, but Cora does make a series of vaguely terrified faces. Cora, Cora, Cora. You REALLY should have just bitten that bullet and told her the truth. Look at this woman. She may plan to be magnanimous in victory, but she will be cruel in defeat.

## Downton Boudoirs

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1956.jpg)

I continue to be madly in love with every aspect of Rosamund's London home. It's INCREDIBLY dark, but also so very luxe indeed. Anyway, so Anna is fine, and in the giddiness of that good news, VERY NEARLY slips up and tells Mary the truth about Marigold. (*The Truth About Marigold* sounds like an ABC Afterschool Special, in which she is a cutter, bulimic, illiterate, a secret prostitute, and addicted to meth.)

## Downton Discussions

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1960.jpg)

This was a relaxing shoot for Hugh Bonneville. No barfing, just reclining. Anyway, I admit that it's sort of hard to see Cora's glorious spangled gown here, as she and Lord G talk about whether or not Cora should take this hospital position. Robert doesn't seem to understand that Cora would LIKE a job, and she gets offended that he seems to think she's too old and frail to do the work required. Oh, you two. Don't fight. Didn't you just learn that life is short and fragile?!

## Downton Dining

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1963.jpg)

THIS VENUE IS PERFECTION. I wish I were there right now. Speaking of perfection, like gum, so is the back of Lady Mary's dress. As she and Tom make their way into dinner, she harasses Tom about Marigold. He denies, denies, denies, and she tells him that if she finds out "he knew" and didn't tell her, she'd consider it a real betrayal. "Don't say that," Tom says, and Mary takes that to mean that he is "in on it," and...sigh. I can see why Mary would feel hurt and left out that she's THE ONLY PERSON who doesn't know this huge secret, but she's got to stop making it about her. Which I know is generally against her principles.

## Downton Surprise

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1965.jpg)

And she does look AMAZING. When Surprise Guest Mary sits down, she notes how loony it is that this is a table of singletons, at their age, and one of the women (both of whom Mary knows) points out that they're all war widows. "I'm not a war widow," Mary corrects her, which is ACCURATE, but the look the woman shoots her is like, "WHY DON'T YOU SHUT THE EFF UP" and...I was kind of with her. Mary is unbearable this week and I say that as a person who LOVES Mary.

## Downton Smoldering

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1972.jpg)

Matthew Goode LOVES an icy pain in the ass, however. Just look at that face. He is INTO HER. They flirt throughout the dinner -- as does Tom, who Henry invites to come watch them race their cars around. It's like the best thing that Tom has ever heard, this invite. He is giddy like a child. It's ADORABLE. TOM IS MAKING A FRIEND! As he chortles, and Mary and Henry Talbot flirt, the rest of the table wonders if they can get away with subtly poisoning her.

## Downton Bad Yelp Reviews

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1977.jpg)

Also deserving of poisoning? Carson, who is a total pill about the dinner Mrs Hughes has served him. He has additionally decided that because Lord D isn't drinking, NOR SHALL THEY. Carson. You need to get a grip! A nice glass of wine might be the only thing standing between Mrs Hughes and your murder.

## Downton Wingman

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1980.jpg)

Look at Mary's awesome cape! It's velvet, and I want to touch it. Here, World's Best Wingman Tom Branson makes up some BS excuse so that Henry Talbot can walk Mary home alone, without him being fifth wheel. You know poor Tom really wants to walk home with Henry himself, so they can talk about catalytic converters or whatever.

## Downton Walks

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1985.jpg)

I have to say, I'm sure this hat is historically accurate, but I'm not convinced it is very attractive on Matthew Goode. It is so HIGH on his head. Thank God it starts raining and he takes it off after they run into a tunnel to make out. Which we're getting to. But before that momentous occasion, Mary FINALLY tells Henry, "I don't know why I haven't told you before, but Matthew died in a car crash," and Henry is says, "I know. The car is your enemy. But it's my friend. And all I ask is that you give it a second chance." And then the rain ends that highly necessary conversation....

## Downton Kissing

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1991.jpg)

..and, AT LAST, THERE IS KISSING! Here is the thing, though: I love Matthew Goode. I find him dreamy and perfect. I also love Michelle Dockery and find HER dreamy and perfect. I am theoretically all in for the combo of Michelle Dockery and Matthew Goode sucking face. But I feel like these two actors don't have that much sexual chemistry? Which is weird, because I thought they did in the season five finale, and Matthew Goode has had chemistry with, like, doors in the past. It's possible that my hopes for this were insurmountably high. As I watch these episodes, I also think how hard it must have been on Michelle Dockery to be filming the first flush of a new romance, knowing that in real life, her own fiance was dying. It's just beyond sad for her. Not to bring the room down here.

## Downton Giggles

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1995.jpg)

This will cheer you up! LOOK AT THIS FACE. Anyway, there is some kissing, and then Henry tells Mary that "plenty of drivers' wives never get near the race track," and starts giggling that he actually said, "wives." It's cute. And on the question of Race Cars: He'd like her to be at the track because he likes hanging out with her, but if she's not into it, he's cool with it. To paraphrase. Mary tells him that this whole thing is moving very quickly, and he admits that he knows his prospects are modest, while she's "a great catch," but he's falling love with her. "Gosh. That sounds rather feeble, doesn't it?" he says. Mary assures him that, actually, as an argument, him being in love with her is "rather compelling." SO IS HIS FACE. Whoops, did I actually type that?

## Downton Gossip

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1999.jpg)

I love Tom for saying up late, waiting for Mary to come in. Sure, sure, he's got to catch up on the news of the world, but also he's a complete gossip, bless him. I find it so endearing when men embrace the human love of gossip instead of pretending they're not interested.YOU KNOW YOU'RE INTERESTED.

## Downton Living Rooms

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_2004.jpg)

As I say whenever we're in this living room set: LOOK AT THIS ROOM. LOOK AT IT. Tom is advocates very hard for Henry, and then they gossip about Edith. In short, Tom likes Bertie, and Mary calls him "boring to an Olympic degree," then notes that Edith is "so stupid to have saddled herself with a child," because what kind of man will be interested in marrying her now? UM. YOU have a child ALSO as a single woman, and Tom ALSO has a child. LOOK IN THE MIRROR. There is one right behind you!

## Downton Greetings

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_2007.jpg)

Bertie has arrived at Downton and obviously these two are just kissing in the street, as they should be. If this is Olympic-ly Boring, sign me up!

## Downton Crossover Events

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_2010.jpg)

And in other romantic developments, Lord Merton comes by Isobel's with a "Miss Crookshank," who I assume is Hermione Granger's cat taken human form (Crookshanks is only plural when you are a feline, obviously). She's engaged to Lord Merton's HORRIBLE son Larry, and her cause here is to attempt to undo the AWFUL THINGS Larry has said and done to and about Isobel, and get her and Lord Merton back together. Crookshanks seems very nice but she *would* have to be magical to ever make me like Larry, that human ingrown toenail. Isobel appears to share my feelings on this.

## Downton Chats

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_2014.jpg)

These two are so charming, going down for dinner together, and Edith looks lovely. Before they head down, though, she pops into the nursery and he asks to come with her, and, of course, is totally loving and warm about the sweet children, and I predict this Marigold thing is going to be NBD. I mean, for one thing, he already KNOWS she's Edith's ward. For all we know, Bertie may already suspect she is also Edith's CHILD. Bertie is no idiot. I LOVE YOU BERTIE. (Also, if Edith weren't in love with Bertie already, seeing him be so kind to the kids surely did it. He was really genuinely lovely about them.)

## Downton Dinners Part a Million

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_2021.jpg)

It turns out Bertie has a LOT of smart logistical suggestions about this open house that no one at Downton has even begun to think about. Other than his being slightly bossy about this -- albeit super correct -- this is literally the nicest and easiest dinner Downton has EVER HOSTED. No one screams, no one threatens to punch anyone, no one vomits blood at the table. We even learn that Downton has a librarian. ASK HIM WHERE THE EFF YOUR GUTENBERG BIBLE IS OH MY GOD DO I HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING?

## Downton Heart to Heart

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_2030.jpg)

I stupidly neglected to get a screengrab of the convo that Tom and Mary have after dinner, wherein Mary seems to like the very organized Bertie, and then confesses that Henry has talked her into giving cars another chance, in part because she "want to get over it." Tom teases her that she's being SO REASONABLE, he barely even recognizes his dear sister, Mary. "COULD THIS BE LOVE??" he teases her. "Oh, do shut up," she snaps. It's pretty great.

Meanwhile, Lord G worries about Bertie's prospects. "Well, what are EDITH'S prospects?" Cora wonders, and Lord G kindly notes that he thinks, what with her NewspaperMagazine and whatnot, Edith may well develop into "one of the interesting women of the day." I love Lord G's Turnabout On The Question Of Edith Working. (Now, dear man, apply that to your own wife.) They decide that if Edith loves him, they're cool with it and shall not object. I should hope not. The poor girl's already been left at the altar by an old man with enormous teeth, and had the father of her child killed by people who will prove to be Nazis. SHE CAN MARRY WHOEVER SHE LIKES.

## Downton Buttresses

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_2034.jpg)

I could not throw away this shot. Look at that ceiling. It is spectacular.

## Downton Tours

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_2036.jpg)

This entire bit about the house tour is really very funny. As pointed out by Bertie at dinner, NO ONE in the family knows what they're doing or what they're talking about, and all these interested visitors are not there to steal priceless knickknacks, but actually have thoughtful questions about art and architecture and none of the Crawleys have the foggiest clue and basically either make stuff up, or are like, "Ummmmm, gosh, I don't know but look at this painting! It's by Reynolds! ISN'T IT RATHER NICE?" and "These were...rather nice people who are...really.... LIVING THE LIFE!" and all their many visitors are kind of like, "hmmm." (Many MANY of them also feel the house is insufficiently cozy.)

## Downton Rampages

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_2041.jpg)

And then...this was just great. Violet has gotten The News about the hospital and she comes tearing through the house -- crammed with strange villagers and all -- to find Cora and rip her, as suspected, a new one. She does everything but whack bystanders with her cane in her thirst have it out. She then basically steamrolls her way upstairs to have it out with Robert about how everyone let her prattle on about her new role at the hospital when they knew she wasn't going to HAVE ONE. (She has a point.) This all plays out in front of a delighted Molesley, who scampers downstairs to tell Baxter the gossip, but she is not interested because the Sexy Jewel Thief has written her a letter and wants to see her in prison. HOW HAS THIS PLOT GONE ON FOR TWO SEASONS NOW?

## Downton Scolding

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_2043.jpg)

Violet is both incensed and HIGHLY DRAMATIC about being overthrown as President of the Hospital. Lord G is like, "oh, please, no one even cares what we think about anything anymore, anyway" as a way to comfort her, and Violet STORMS out, saying, "just tell Cora I DO NOT WISH TO SEE HER FACE until I am used to HAVING A TRAITOR IN THE FAMILY!!!!!!!!" As you all know, I think this hospital thing went on -- easily -- two episodes too long, but this whole final bit was very entertaining. I love a good storm out.

## Downton Scamps

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_2045.jpg)

And then a small child weasels his way upstairs. "Why is SHE in such a tizzy?" is his opening salvo to Lord G as Violet sweeps past him on her broomstick. "You know mothers," is Lord G's response, and they have a totally charming chat. (The kid suggests Lord G buy someplace more "comfy," and Lord G notes that people "like what they're used to.") They're interrupted by Molesley who is VERY PERTURBED by this invasion. "What are you doing here?" he yelps. "Wouldn't you like to know?" the kid sasses, and then runs off, all to Lord G's great amusement. He tells Molesley to let the child go: "He was more a philosopher than a thief." That scene could have been totally corny and terrible, but it was actually great. Hugh Bonneville was so charming in this episode.

## Downton B&B

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_2046.jpg)

Hey, rememeber how Mrs Patmore is starting a B&B? It's done! Her niece is going to run it, and it even has a telephone!

## Downton Plaid

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_2048.jpg)

These two attempt to chat up Violet, as she comes TEARING out of the house, and really, I just wanted you to see Lord Merton's lovely suit. They're both like, "FYI! Crookshanks is working on Larry!!!! It's all going to be FINE!!!" (Don't ask me why LORD MERTON didn't work on Larry.) In spite of her RAGE, Violet finds this development very interesting indeed. "Interesting AND ENCOURAGING?" Lord Merton notes. "I'll leave it at interesting. GOOD DAY!" Violet says and sweeps out. She's not in the mood, Dickie.

## Downton Side-Eye

![Downton Abbey Recaps](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/02/IMG_2054.jpg)

I enjoy that everyone takes coffee and whatnot in Cora and Robert's bedroom right now, to accommodate Lord G. This is where Branson suggests they open the house regularly to help afford running it, and everyone is horrified, but we know he's right. Edith reflects that it's sad that their "way of life" has become something that's a sideshow attraction, and Mary makes a snarky response about what a Debbie Downer she's being, and this is the look Bertie gives Mary when she does it. Yes. I think we'll keep him.

Mary is, in fact, the only person who doesn't seem to realize that it might be irrational to think they will all live at Downton forever. Speaking of people who shall no longer live at Downton...

## Downton Sobs

Poor Sad Thomas. No one understand him. Also he was totally terrible to everyone for several years, so some of this is him reaping what he has sown, BUT. He does seem to be having a dark night of the soul. Literally. Pull it together, man. You're EvilButler.com. EVILLY BUTLE THIS.

[Fug the Show: Downton Abbey Recap, Episode 606This episode truly had it all: kissing (in the rain, no less)! Tours of grand British estates (only my favorite thing ever)! Crying! Headbands! Bertie giving Mary a dirty look on Edith's behalf! Wise children! Crying underbutlers! Surprise fiancees! It seems that Old York's Hottest Club IS Downton Abbey. As ever, if you've seen this season in its entirety, please don't spoil the rest of us. We VERY MUCH appreciate your restraint...and before we know it, the secrets of all hearts shall be disclosed. We only have three more episodes to go! (Note: there will not be a new episode on February 28th, and thank God, because putting the series finale of Downton up against the Oscars would have been terribly, terribly mean.)![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/bf/b9/bfb99790-924d-4e41-a7e6-5e3c6e04fe57/content/images/static-gofugyourself-com/uploads/2016/02/img_1900.jpg)](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/fug-the-show-downton-abbey-recap-episode-606-02-2016/)
