Lemon and George spend a lot of this episode acting squirrelly around each other before agreeing that, despite the excellence of their sexcapade, they can never bang again. We'll see how long THAT lasts. I love this collared shirt/red lip on Jaime King.
Even the healing power of Lavon's kitchen pastries can not pull Zoe out of her Joel-heartbreak. I would like to thank the show for addressing the thing I waxed on ENDLESSLY about last week -- namely that I thought it was dumb of Zoe to be acting like this is THE END when she could well have gone with Joel on a sabbatical to London. She DOES admit that she made that choice, and I am happy to see her own it. We talked a bit in the comments last week about whether or not this was a reasonable break-up, and I have to stay, I stand by my feeling that if you are really All In, you can make a year in London work. As for Joel's career taking him to New York or LA on a permanent basis, I agree that's a real legit stumbling block, but the show never really SHOWED us Zoe trying to choose between BlueBell and Joel -- which is actually what the love triangle turned out to be. That I think is my ultimate note with it. ANYWAY, it's done now and Zoe's hair is the loser.
See? She is a hot sad mess of a woman, and I can't blame her for feeling cursed. On top of Joel and whatnot, she's also got George confessing to her that nailing Lemon on his boat is running on a loop through his head, which is not what a girl needs to hear when she is buying ice cream and wine from the Dixie Stop in her slippers. (Lavon is equally uninterested in hearing the same thing from Lemon, over at the Butter Stick.) Rachel Bilson is actually VERY amusing in this episode; she is very good at misguided romantic machinations on the behalf of others.
At Wanda's advice -- because WANDA is clearly the person from whom you should be taking advice --Zoe goes to see Madame Van Horn, whom I believe also gave Lemon some terrible advice last season (or maybe earlier this; I've lost all sense of space and time). I decided when writing this that Don Todd and Madame Van Horn have a secret romantic past, based solely on the fact that they're on-going tertiary characters on this show and because I feel like Don Todd WOULD run into a mediocre psychic whilst on his Monster Golf Safari. Madame VH leads Zoe to believe her curse will be lifted when she gets George and Lemon back together and Zoe (hilariously) totally buys this.
Okay, so there's this kind of lengthy thing with AB and Barry Watson that was needed to introduce his character and shit, but we don't need to get into it beyond my telling you that he's been faking sick to see her but never gets up the courage to ask her out until the very end of the episode. He's very shy and somewhat squirrelly, but I enjoy Barry Watson and I hope for good things from him. MORE IMPORTANTLY: I am sorry but a strapless dress is 100% inappropriate for WORKING AT A DOCTOR'S OFFICE. Put on a cardigan, AB.
This is Charles, Vivian's ex, and the fact that he and Wade are just left to their own devices to create a functional relationship without Vivian running point AT ALL is absurd to me. Vivian in short completely removes herself from what is essentially HER PROBLEM: that her ex-husband and baby daddy and her current boyfriend (whom Charles keeps calling "Roadhouse," which Wade keeps pointing out is not actually insulting, in a very amusing running gag) don't get along. I am starting to hate Vivian.
Zoe never struck me as a maxi-shirt girl. It will come as no surprise to you that Lavon wants nothing to do with getting Lemorge back together.
Lemon wears a series of cute sweaters in this episode. Like this one!
And these shoes on Zoe are TO DIE.
As is, in fact, this entire ensemble -- which she wears for an abortive attempt to try and shove Lemon and George back together. Lavon also looks snazzy, if HIGHLY doubtful.
Over at a Wilkes family function -- whatever, it's not that important - Vivian is wearing a SHIRT TIED ABOVE HER WAIST LIKE DAISY DUKE and I am sorry but you're a thirtysomething adult woman with a child and at a certain point a woman must put away the trappings of a character that's been portrayed most recently onscreen by Jessica Simpson. I am sorry, but no. This is not at all about her body -- obviously, she's super fit -- but about the fact that it's ridiculous in a way that, say, a two piece bathing suit or even a subtle cropped top would not be. This is veering into Car Wash Fundraiser Wear and you're at a damned family picnic for pete's sake.
Lemon, on the other hand, looks gorgeous for a date with George that Zoe has orchestrated by making them both believe the other has asked them out. It ends poorly when Lemon orders a salmon dish that is not to her liking. That sounds about right, yes? And then of course it comes out that Zoe is behind the entire thing, which we all also knew was going to happen.
Because this is BlueBell, Wade and Charles eventually mend fences when stuck in a trap up in a tree. No help from Vivian.
AB looks very cute when she agrees to go with Shy Squirrelly Barry Watson to a fundraiser for Mayor Gainey of Fillmore, which will surely enrage Lavon the way that Tansy dating Scooter McGreevy enraged George just a few short months ago.
But at least Lavon is helping Zoe deal with her ish vis a vis Joel. Lavon really is the best. So snazzy a dresser, so kind a man, so generous with the pastry. Someone reelect this man for a lifetime in office.
