## Oprah, Lohan, Lohan, Oprah

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-1.xml)

The most important thing we learn, of course, is that Oprah wears slides when she's just hanging out in a makeshift green room chatting up her interview subjects. This was shot before her televised chat with Lindsay, and she's asking what LiLo hopes to get out of their talk, and Lindsay says she just wants to be real, and Oprah tells her that's GREAT that they have the same goal here, and that she's going to call LiLo out on it when she feels that's not happening. It's actually very canny of her -- she basically puts herself on the same side as Lindsay and then, by suggesting tough questions are simply an attempt to achieve their COMMON goal, gets LiLo to bless any situation in which she pushes Lindsay. Oprah is no dummy.

## Loprah

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-2.xml)

Then we cut to the interview that aired, in which Lindsay is wearing a dress that we saw Oprah gesture to backstage and say, "So you're wearing THAT? Yeah, that's... what they told me," and then later calls it "a baby doll" thing with a hugely skeptical tone. Oprah, if that's the bee you had in your bonnet back then, it must be an entire colony in there by now. Oprah basically instructs Lindsay -- on camera -- not to take a trip to Europe because it's a fat pile of hedonism over there or something. Lindsay gets super prickly with Oprah for bossing her around and very curtly is like, "Yeah, sure, I'll think about it," and then there's a text card that says she decided not to go. Which I'm sure is because Oprah said, "I'll pay you to do this show but not if you go to effing Europe and fall off the wagon with my money."

## She Came In Like A Recking Ball

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-3.xml)

This card is my favorite. As if she was sent to rehab for a clean driving record and violating a probation order that demanded at least one fender-bender a week. Y'all have to COPY EDIT YOUR TV SHOW.

## Six Lindsays

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-32.xml)

We're also treated to a look at LiLo Through The Ages, starting with Parent Trap, and through Mean Girls and various hair styes and a picture on the bottom left in which she looks like AnnaSophia Robb, and next to it, what I imagine Linds would look like if she convinced the Kardashians to adopt her and let her be The Semi-Blonde One for a while.

## Well Played, Lady

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-5.xml)

There are also Person On The Street interviews with various folks talking about whether they ever liked Lindsay, which involves some bored-looking male friends or boyfriends and then this girl who clearly was like, "I have Thoughts, but I am NOT taking off my sunglasses in case anyone from my job watches this thing."

## These Boots Are Made For Packing

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-4.xml)

The storage footage is so fruitless (she finds a fortune from a cookie! She finds stuff we don't see long enough to identify! She finds Ali's shoe!). This crew must have been viciously bored from the get-go. The only thing we learn is that Lindsay apparently thinks wearing black leather sacks, tiny shorts, and a vest is exactly what to wear for a day spent at Public Storage going through your crap. Which apparently she's doing so she can "clear out" and move things to New York, but really, she just kind of roots around in some boxes and then appears to leave everything in there. This feels kind of like a negotiated shoot day, like, "So, what can we film while you're in L.A.?" "Um. I don't know. I have to go look for a pair of my sister's shoes in storage, so..."

## I am really not into that vest

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-6.xml)

She also has a whole box full of Elizabeth Taylor stuff, and then finds an evening gown -- still on a dress form -- stuffed into a box, and is all appalled and shocked to see it so carelessly packed, as if she had nothing to do with the way her things are treated. This is the perfect allegory for her attitude about her life, I think.

## Rehab

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-7.xml)

And then right in the middle of the first break, there is an ad for the rehab facility Lindsay used. Almost like it's hedging its bets and isn't sure if Lindsay will be the best promotion for its services, so it wants to entice you with a pool and nice views.

## Meet the supporting players

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-8.xml)

Michael here is Lindsay's sober coach, and he goes with her to New York. He seems supportive and gives her decent advice occasionally, but he also strikes me as a little willing to play into her perception of certain situations. Like, later Lindsay complains about her real estate broker not paying enough attention to her, and he basically tells her that, yes, she is in a point in her life where everyone should be revolving around her. Whereas it seems like Lindsay needs to learn that perhaps she should STOP expecting everyone to bend to her whims and instead go out and be proactive and make her own shit happen. BUT, I can't pretend I know how to do his job, which has to be hard, particularly with her. I just worry. THERE. I SAID IT. I STILL WORRY, LINDSAY.

## Some Blonde Friend

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-10.xml)

Ugh. So, Lindsay wears this very Hey Y'all Let's Square Dance red dress to go apartment-hunting in New York (at one point complaining that she needs to change because it's riding up into her business or somesuch, which I would prefer she not make MY business), and then her friend starts telling her that she saw *The Canyons* and that Lindsay is AMAZING in it and she LOOKS amazing and she IS amazing and that she thinks it's going to be AMAZING. And Lindsay actually gives her a surprised look and says, "Really?" And laughs, politely, but also in a way that sounds a lot like someone who just felt a hot plume of smoke being piped up into her nethers. And THEN the girl says, "I think it's going to be a cult, like, you know what I mean?" I WISH that movie would turn into an actual cult, but alas, she is simply missing a vital noun. Somebody please place her a Craigslist ad to see if she can be reuinted with it.

## The Canyons

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-11.xml)

And for good measure, the show puts up a shot from the movie, in which Lindsay DOES look pretty, but -- by putting up its box office gross -- rubs an entire bucket of salt into the open wound that is her career.

## Not her best angle

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-12.xml)

These shorts are truly unfortunate, so at least the experience of watching this documentary will teach her SOMETHING. There is a paparazzi photographer hanging around to get her picture and then he basically gets bored and leaves, and Blonde Friend helpfully tells the camera that she's seen photographers try and kill each other to get a shot of Lindsay, and it comes off like rubbing a SECOND bucket of salt into the open wound that is her popularity (although one of them is like, "Hey look at my watch. Lindsay paid for it," which is obnoxiously creepy). When even the paparazzi is bored of you...

## Cut your hair, child

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-13.xml)

Her whole M.O. in this hour, basically, is to claim that rehab (which she is FRESH out of at this point) has put her in a place where the little things don't crawl inside her head and take root and make her freak out. Which will prove itself untrue. She also says that she needs a sanctuary now because living in a hotel isn't relaxing anymore, and while I agree with that sentiment, the way SHE lives in a hotel is a hell of a lot more relaxing than the way I live in my supposed sanctuary. Her suite is probably bigger than my house AND there's a gym attached. Maybe she is doing it wrong.

## THIS guy

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-14.xml)

This is her personal assistant, and he tells us he has worked for: Sean Astin, Prince (!!), Shaun White (for a hot second), Steven Tyler, and then Lindsay. This guy has SEEN THINGS, y'all. This guy will write a book someday. And I will buy that book. Also, how do you go from Rudy to PRINCE to a snowboarder to Aerosmith to LOHAN. ALSO, now I want to know why it didn't work out with Shaun White. Was it because of the hoodies and denim?

Anyway, Matt helpfully says that he thinks Lindsay is super aware that if she screws up this show, she's in deep trouble because "you can't go up from Oprah. So I think she's smarter than that." This guy is telling himself things, I think, so that he can bear this job. And I bet after he was done shooting this thing, he called Shaun White and was like, "So, remember that hot second? Can we go for two?"

## Mommy Dearest

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-15.xml)

Lindsay is dumping a bunch of stuff at her mother's house, and the show tells us she hasn't seen Dina since she checked into rehab and has only laid eyes on her once since getting out -- and brilliantly, we then see Dina come around a corner and look RIGHT PAST HER and to make eyes at the camera crew while enfolding Lindsay in a perfunctory hug. Mr. Sober Coach should make a GIF of this clip and title it "Part Of The Problem."

Dina then later says, "I've been trying and trying and trying \[to convince her\] and FINALLY she listened," and you think maybe she's talking about Lindsay's last rehab stint and getting herself some help, but no, she just means LiLo moving to New York. Maybe I'm being unfair, but I'm not sure anyone here deserves the benefit of the doubt on that one.

## Take a nap

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-16.xml)

This shot was one that I think shows that all sides are trying to be true about this -- I mean, girlfriend looks rough. Tired, worn out, a little beaten down. Understandably. But if she were all about sparkly appearances, she wouldn't have let them film her this way. Kim Kardashian would rather die. And that's why right now I'm more on Team Lohan. Sometimes a scrap of something real makes us predisposed to believe in all the rest of it.

There's also a scene in which she reads from her Betty Ford rehab diary from 2010, all about how sad it made her when Dina cried, and then bitched about how they were mean to her because they turned Dina away at the gate, citing "no special treatment," and then let some other person's father visit a lot. I suspect certain pertinent information is being omitted from that story, by Lindsay, or perhaps by her mother. I hope Betty Ford releases a visitor log that says Dina rolled up at 3 a.m. and was surprised she couldn't come inside for a hug.

## STABBY

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-17.xml)

And then she said, "I WANT TO MURDER," and somewhere, a WWI-era valet gets his MURDER WINGS.

You know they're low on actual usable scenes when they make a point of showing Lindsay opening a box with a kitchen knife, and Dina squealing that she's been telling Lindsay since she was a kid to use scissors -- and I think she's ACTUALLY saying that Lindsay is opening it by slashing the knife in a dangerous direction, or something, and that she told her never to cut towards herself with scissors, either, BUT I think it's more entertaining to imagine that Young Lindsay ran around carving up boxes like the farmer's wife going after three blind mice.

## It's HAPPENING

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-18.xml)

Awesomely, Lindsay finds an entire box of "Fetch" t-shirts -- I totally want one now, so I hope she sells them all on eBay -- and holds it up to show Dina, and Dina DOESN'T KNOW WHAT IT IS. She actually goes, "What company is that?" And Lindsay gives her full WTF face and says, "It's from Mean Girls, Mom," and Dina is like, "Ohhhh." HOW do you not know your child-actor-daughter's movies inside and out? ESPECIALLY such a good one? Gretchen Wieners' father, the inventor of Toaster Strudel, would not be happy about that.

## Bling Ring

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-19.xml)

There's a brief interlude about the Bling Ring, in which Linds candidly recalls going to jail that one time (with a lot of genuine shudders) and says that when she was in solitary, they released Alexis Neiers -- one of the robbers -- from the cell next to hers, or something, which must have been embarrassing and indeed Lilo seems to have a hard time choking out those words.

But THEN she undercuts that by complaining that the judge and everyone else was just out to punish her, instead of helping her, and did not understand that she needed them to be nice to her. Maybe the judge needed Lindsay to stop acting like an asshead. I mean, we all remember her various hearings and trials, and she did not come off very well in them. It's like that old saying goes: "If you want to be taken seriously, don't go to court with 'F U' written on your fingernail." It would seem that she still believes herself to be a victim of other people's issues, which makes me nervous about her long-term prospects.

## Sigh

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-20.xml)

My favorite line of hers was, "It'll be nice when there's no more talking and there are only positive things being said." So basically, she's praying for someone to invent telepathic communication, but only for nice people.

## Tank Top Fail

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-21.xml)

You have to give it to her -- this child clearly did not spend any time on wardrobe or in hair and makeup for this shoot, which is good, because it strips the vanity out of "vanity project." This scene involves GQ offering to pay to fly her to Venice for her "The Canyons" premiere, but only if she'll stop in London and go to a party. Linds says she doesn't want to do it (and indeed says no) because everyone will want to talk about rehab, and she doesn't have another project going that she can get them to ask her about instead. Her sober coach tells her, "We're in a new climate of you taking care of yourself," which is just fancy enough that I suspect she missed his point -- which is, he tells us, that she's totally not ready to work or travel because she's only 24 days out of rehab at this point. But Lindsay seems to think the wisdom of not going is that she doesn't have anything else to talk about, so... Mr. Sober Coach, maybe you should make her write lines on a chalkboard, a la Bart Simpson.

Later, she does say, "I can't just be over there celebrating because I'm not safe in that environment right now," but it's in an interview bite, and I wonder if they massaged that out of her, because it feels a lot more sensible than her outlook was in that exact moment of conversation.

## The Bling Floor

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-22.xml)

She also smokes heavily while laying all her jewelry out on the floor, which... maybe she needs to rethink how much stuff she brings with her to her hotel. She seems bored, and she explains -- and we see -- that it's because there are photographers outside all day waiting for her and she doesn't want to deal with that if she doesn't have to, so she just stays upstairs. And she skipped an AA meeting because she doesn't want them following her there, because that is rude to the other First As who are trying to stay Second A. I like that she said that. She's right. Although I also think she could just call a car service and zip off and it would be fine, and that she's allowing herself to put up obstacles, and oh my God, I'm talking like a super discount therapist. I HAVE watched a lot of TV shows where people analyze each other, so maybe I'm a PhD in DirecTV.

## "Lingerie" "film"

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-23.xml)

This whole thing is WEIRD. So, I guess Lindsay is friends with this "filmmaker" and he asked her to make a cameo in his "lingerie film," which, what IS that, anyway? It's never clear, but it involves a lot of models in panties writhing around this apartment in which they're shooting. Lindsay has agreed to do him the favor, so she shows up, and is asking him here what the setup is and whether there's dialogue and he gives her super vague answers, and when pressed, says some stupid thing about how a bunch of models run into a room and Lindsay's "intellect gets absorbed," and I'm pretty sure there is a sum total of no intellect involved in this project on any level. Also, there are no interview bites explaining what the scenario was here, so I suspect NOBODY wanted to discuss ANY of the specifics and they had to just wing it and hope the footage was clear, which it... was not, entirely.

## Red Spot of Doom

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-24.xml)

I don't know what that is on her face -- a zit? A zit being frozen off her face? A cut? A sign from the universe that she should not do this "lingerie" "film"?

Needless to say, Linds thinks it's not great, Bob, that what she thought was a cameo in a photo shoot being filmed has turned into a part with lines that no one can explain to her (and she says, "I don't want to be an actress-turned-model," because Ali is the model in the family, which... I don't need subtitles; I need Cliff's Notes). The guy gets really testy with her about what her availability was -- it's all pretty murky and I wish they'd gotten interview bites to explain exactly what went down, but that may be because either nobody knows, or they're both a little bit wrong. He says he wanted her at 5 a.m. (for your "lingerie" "film"? That's a ballsy ask, pal) and she said noon. and I suspect from his tone that she turned up even later than that, and she claims she was offering him another shoot day as well now that she's not going to Venice, but she feels like he's taking advantage of her by trying to make her do more than she agreed to... at some point she says she thought she was a girl with a love story, and the guy basically tells her he totally changed the concept when he found out she had another day to shoot. It's weird and my impression is that this guy, at the very least, is a sucky friend.

## Tears: Check.

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-25.xml)

And then Lindsay starts CRYING and saying, "I want to be in London right now," and nobody seems to take that as the sign that she's feeling unsteady about other things -- wasn't "overseas" Oprah's big metaphor for Lindsay wanting to go party? -- and instead this guy gets disgusted that she doesn't want to do the shoot. She shouts that this isn't what she signed up for, and honey, that may be true, but whatever you THOUGHT it was couldn't have been so hot, either. She was SO DUMB to agree to do any of this. How good a friend was this guy, anyway? Where is her personal assistant in all this? Shaun White would NEVER.

## Kicking Out The Cameras: Check

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-26.xml)

So these two go out to the roof to patch up their differences, which is really just Lindsay trying to get out of this by claiming that this whole argument is "a sign" and the dude snaps and says, "Do you want to be in this business with me?" And she says yes, which I hope is a lie, and then she offers to stop filming so they can discuss this, and the guy turns to the camera and snaps, "Stop the film." And then we find out, via a card, that Lindsay opted out of the "lingerie" "film." GOOD DECISION. I suspect this guy TOTALLY thought he could manipulate her once he got her to set, and get her doing something other than what she agreed to, but I ALSO suspect she is flaky and kept him waiting and didn't actually ask very many questions about what any of it was. She does admit in an interview that she thinks she said yes just so she could recapture the feeling of being on a set, and having a job, and that she was probably doing it just to DO it. And that's actually really sad, because I suspect that's EXACTLY what it was: She liked feeling wanted and important and needed by somebody, even if it was just this "lingerie" "filmmaker," and oh, it's sad how far she's fallen. Or rather, how far down she's let herself fall. Both.

## Queen Lindsay I

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-28.xml)

Then Lindsay goes to New York Fashion Week, which would have to have been last September, to her friend Wendy's show in which her sister Ali is walking. Earlier we saw her shopping at Wendy's store and joking about how ballsy it would be to wear a crown at this show, and LO AND BEHOLD.

## True Lohan

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-29.xml)

And THIS is the fashion show: Ali comes out with a veil strapped to her face. She looks like a walking "True Detective" mood board.

## Hire Me

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-27.xml)

"Dear REIGN: I am available, as long as you don't do a 'lingerie' 'film' episode." Unwisely -- so, also wisely -- nobody told her to take off the crown to do the rest of her shoot, so Lindsay wanders around having life problems while looking like a lost Ophelia.

## Someone please usurp the throne of Queen Lindsay I

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-30.xml)

Now her complaint is that she thinks her broker is lazy because she hasn't closed on her apartment yet. Apparently there's a $10 million liability policy she needs, and he keeps telling her she ought to be able to get it, and SHE keeps telling HIM that she CAN'T get it; I think he fails to understand until too late that the reason she can't get it is not inactivity, but probably that no company in its right mind will GIVE her ANY kind of policy like that, because she is Lindsay Lohan.

But, typically, Lindsay turns this into, "He is a lazy broker and he's bad for me," and Mr. Sober Coach is like, "Yes, he should be paying more attention to you," instead of working with her through the issue of her potentially having made her own bed and now being unable to lie in it because no one will rent to her. She does say, later, "I hate when someone makes a promise and breaks that promise. It makes me lose trust in them, like when I was a kid with my dad." And maybe Mr. Sober Coach was trying to be sensitive to that. But that comment by her feels like neatly sidestepping the issue by spinning it into something that it's impossible not to feel sympathy for, as a way of avoiding anyone telling you any home truths. And it's very telling to me that they had this broker in the show (briefly) earlier, and then now they're only getting him on the phone, and I suspect that's because he's like, "I can't work with her and no one will let her sign a lease and it's a waste of my time."

Lindsay ties it back to her recovery by saying it's really hard for her to keep living in a hotel because she can't create security for herself in an insecure environment (is a hotel really THAT bad? Want to trade?), and then notes that's why she doesn't have a sponsor yet OR EVEN A REGULAR WORKOUT REGIMEN MY GOD THE HORRORS WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO HER QUADS. Also, Mr. Sober Coach should be reminding her that she knows what neighborhoods she's looking in, and also, it's not like she can't get places in New York, so maybe she should just FIND A SPONSOR and be willing to travel to meet with said sponsor. Also, you being based in a hotel is, right now, just as consistent for that sponsor as you having an apartment. Plenty of people in AA move, also. It is possible. GET A SPONSOR. Right?

## Holy crap

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/hotelroom.xml)

So Lindsay decides that what will REALLY help is moving to a new room within her current hotel. Because making work for people who are not you is the answer to everything. Nobody tells her it might be a good exercise in accountability for her to go over there and move her own stuff her own damn self, JUST ONCE, which is what I would have done, which might be why I am not in that line of work.

So poor old Matt gets the nod, and he goes back to the hotel and, with a wry smile for us, proceeds to move MOUNTAINS AND MOUNTAINS OF STUFF (and they cleverly get him on camera checking to see that the new room's mini-bar has been preemptively cleared out, which means he's good at his job)(and also, I've decided, that Shaun White hates him because he babysits the vodka or something). Matt even says, "This woman's got shit you wouldn't BELIEVE," and when a person who was a personal assistant FOR PRINCE is bowled over by the quantity and madness of your shit, then you REALLY need to rethink. The show tries to give itself another hopeful note by having Lindsay that living in a hotel reminds her of a bad time in her life and she needs to GET OUT, and that she is looking forward to figuring out her life for herself, we realize that a) this show is a fascinating psychological portrait of her, and b) that the Chateau Marmont just sent a condolence letter to whatever hotel this is, because it feels the pain, and c) that Matt needs a raise.

## Next time...

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/lindsays1ep1premiere-31.xml)

In the supertease for the series: Lindsay skips out on shoot days, Lindsay complains a lot, Lindsay does not wear pants and the cameraman gets revenge by holding this hilarious shot of her, etc. It's... it's a hard show to watch, but an interesting show to watch, because I DO actually think LiLo believes a lot of what she's saying and the trouble is that I'm not sure she is CORRECT to believe some of it, and in the end I'm concerned it's not going to give me much hope that she's finding herself. But Mr. Sober Coach keeps reminding me that recovery is a REALLY long process; I just think maybe someone should have suggested to Lindsay that her first month out of her SIXTH rehab stint might be better spent NOT on camera. So Oprah has ended up with a potentially interesting few episodes of TV, but at what cost? She maybe should've done the "Shaun White vs Assistant Matt" Grudge Match Series instead.

[Fug the Show: Recap of "Lindsay" on OWN, series premiereThe first episode of Lindsay Lohan's Oprah-produced show, Lindsay, basically just sets the table for what the promos present as a fraught, challenging, and occasionally volatile experience trying to get her life and recovery on camera. This is certainly presented as more of a documentary than a reality soap in the vein of the Kardashians or the Housewives (or even her painfully false-feeling old E! show, Living Lohan), with a verité feel and a sense that the filmmaker doesn't have much invested in spit-shining the truth; she'll let Lindsay tell whatever hers is, and show you the footage, and you decide. It still feels produced, but by necessity, and with neither malice nor particular bias. When, for example, all you have for your first act is a trip to Lindsay's storage unit that yielded nothing interesting, then of course you have to do something with it, and that's how we end up with stock footage to explain Lindsay's past travails, and interview bites about clearing out and moving to New York that were clearly obtained in the hope of framing her story with a hopeful voice. Or any voice. Lindsay definitely comes off like she says what she believes and she believes what she says; the question is whether those things she believes are unconsciously, or even consciously, varnished. She seems at once candid and fragile and even often likable, but occasionally as if what comes out of her mouth is an effort to convince both herself and others. As she appears in this footage, she also unravels at times and starts to cling to technicalities and twist situations so she's the wronged party -- so, a defense mechanism (which is hardly unusual of her) that makes you wonder about a larger pattern of denial, or rationalization, of her past misdeeds. She is also a performer by trade, and not a bad one, so that adds a layer here that at least you don't get with the Kardashians. Lord knows none of those girls can act. In an effort to be swift, I went full fug with the pictures and just took them with my phone off the TV, which lends this whole affair a pleasantly cheap veneer that will probably give the filmmaker nightmares.
