## Meredith

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/bf/b9/bfb99790-924d-4e41-a7e6-5e3c6e04fe57/content/images/static-gofugyourself-com/uploads/2015/04/img_9531.jpg)

I love Meredith. She seems dippy as hell, but she's actually way competent. I give her zero eyerolls this week, and was delighted to see her note that she could never live in Los Angeles because she's too scared of "The Manson Brothers," a reference that surely thrilled everyone who thinks Megan is going to met a gruesome end at said cult's hand a secret thrill.

## Meredith

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2015/04/IMG_9574.jpg)

In fact, I applaud her cheery moxie, her headbands, and her can of Tab.

## Shirley and Caroline

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2015/04/IMG_9525.jpg)

For some reason, Roger's long-suffering secretary Caroline is now totally incompetent (I feel like she used to be better at her job) and has brought Shirley in to help her. I have no eye rolls for Shirley: she wears the shortest and most gloriously patterned dresses at SCP and I applaud that.

## Pete and Don

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2015/04/IMG_9565.jpg)

I also can only but applaud these INSANE pants on Pete, who is dragging Don out to play golf with a client.

## Pete

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2015/04/IMG_9571.jpg)

But the eyerolls begin here. First of all, at that TERRIBLE GREENSCREEN. Come on, I get that you had to splash out some cash for Meredith's vintage can of Tab, but save a LITTLE bit for effects. The bigger eyeroll, though, is for the fact that Pete uses this drive with Don to get all philosophical. He literally says, in talking about the many divorces happening in the SCP world (although specifically about his and Don's): "You think you're going to begin your life over and do it right. But what if you never get past the beginning again?" Call my crazy, but I don't really feel like Professional Delicious Weasel Pete Campbell is going to get all Introspective While Driving Don to Golf With Clients, especially when ten seconds earlier he was all worked up that Don wasn't wearing the correct pants.

## Betty

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2015/04/IMG_9519.png)

I enjoy Betty's ruffle-topped frock. I rolled my eyes a little when she announced that she was going back to get her masters in psychology. Not because I don't want the best for Betty -- I find Betty very interesting -- but because it felt so ham-handed to have January Jones pop up for two seconds to announce What Betty's Up To Right Now.

## Harry Crane

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2015/04/IMG_9533.jpg)

HUGE eyeroll to what a jackhole Harry Crane proves himself to be, although this eyeroll is directed more at the character than at this from a plot perspective, because all of this was totally in character and a long-time coming. First of all, Harry, I hate everything about your look right now. Your tie is too short and your hair is dumb.

## Harry Crane and Megan

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2015/04/IMG_9582.jpg)

And then Harry goes to lunch with Megan and her micro-mini on the pretext of helping with her career and he totally tries to Casting Couch her, and she storms out, disgusted -- rightly; he is GROSS about it -- and he goes back to Don and is all, "MEGAN SEEMS REALLY CRAZY RIGHT NOW IF SHE TELLS YOU I DID SOMETHING GROSS IT'S A LIE." You *are* gross, Harry Crane. I hope Joan shoves you down the elevator shaft. (Mega eyeroll to this episode's Lack of Joan, also.)

## This Plotline

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2015/04/IMG_9538.jpg)

So, our B plot this week involved Mimi Rodgers as a photographer named Pima who is prone to vests and tries (and succeeds) in sleeping with Stan for her own professional advancement, and then tries the exact same thing with Peggy and fails. Mostly, I just wanted you to see Stan's vest and to let me know if we've EVER seen this other dude before.

## Pima, Peggy, Stan

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2015/04/IMG_9549.jpg)

VESTS VESTS EVERYONE IN VESTS. Pima also has a saucy Mrs Robinson-esque gray streak in her hair and we spend a lot of time with her this week. Perhaps 30% more time than we totally needed. Not that I'm not always happy to see Mimi Rogers in a vest. Please don't misunderstand.

## Pima and Stan

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2015/04/IMG_9555.jpg)

Pima pops up everywhere and gives people languid/self-serving life advice -- she tells Stan he's too good for his girlfriend, for example. She is, essentially, a hustler. (Who may also be good at her job. Much, in fact, like Don Draper, right down the to affection for a well-cut suit.)

## Pima and Peggy

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2015/04/IMG_9592.jpg)

And she tells Peggy that she's glad she never got married. "All the adventures I would have missed." I actually didn't dislike this plotline -- Peggy gets to do a lot of, "I don't care what you think, I'm the boss," which I always LOVE -- but it DID feel like a lot of time with a tertiary character whom we can only hope influences the satisfying wrap-up of this show. The thing is, I have to keep reminding myself that the first chunk of ANY *Mad Men* season is slow and at times unsatisfying. This actually isn't that out of the ordinary. Also: I had Peggy's dress in shirt version from Contempo in 1996, I think.

## Megan

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2015/04/IMG_9521.jpg)

Get your eye muscles ready for the #2 Eyerolliest Plot of the Hour. Here's the thing: I actually LIKE Megan. I know she's been divisive, but I like Jessica Pare a lot, and I have never had an issue with this character. That said, I feel like she and Don divorcing should have meant we didn't see her anymore. I know Weiner said that every episode this season is a farewell to someone, but I seriously said goodbye to Megan when she and Don decided over the phone to break up. And I would have been fine with her popping by this week for something poignant and short. BUT THIS WHOLE EPISODE WAS ABOUT MEGAN. NO ONE CARES.

## MEGAN'S SISTER

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2015/04/IMG_9556.jpg)

I REALLY don't care about Megan's Religious Sister who is devastated that Megan has failed in her marriage and, later, really bummed that her mom is nailing Roger Sterling on the floor of Don's sunken living room. WHO CARES ABOUT MEGAN'S SISTER NO ONE NOT EVEN THAT ACTRESS.

## MEGAN'S MOTHER

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2015/04/IMG_9568.jpg)

And while I love Julia Ormond, NO ONE was angling to get the loose ends about her affair with Roger tied up. NO ONE CARES. (I do give her props for deciding that Megan should take ALL of Don's furniture, though. Because that was funny.)

## Don's New Living Room Decor

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2015/04/IMG_9603.jpg)

See? I also, of course, enjoyed her ferretting out, simply by seeing a red wine stain on the bedroom carpet, that Don is sleeping around. Let's time-travel her toward the present and let her work for Olivia Pope.

## MEGAN

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2015/04/IMG_9598.jpg)

EXACTLY. Did we really need seriously six scenes of Megan with her family in this episode? We already saw this fantastic white trench...

## Megan and Don

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2015/04/IMG_9605.jpg)

....when Don, at their divorce proceedings, wrote her a check for ONE MILLLLLLLLION DOLLARS. I really REALLY rolled my eyes at this one. Don! You should NOT keep a million bucks in your checking account. That shit is not FDIC insured!

## DIANA

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2015/04/IMG_9535.jpg)

And now. The pinnacle of Eye Rolls Mountain. Remember last week, when Don nailed Elizabeth Reaser out by the garbage at a local diner? Well, now I guess they're soulmates or some shit. He's stalking her all around New York to find out where she's working, she's getting drunk and calling him and coming over and crying and boning him. I guess it's not a late season of *Mad Men* without a sad brunette in an unattractive wig whom I basically hate immediately.

## Diana and Don

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2015/04/IMG_9545.jpg)

Sooooo, if you care, Diana here had two daughters. One died of the flu and she left the other one with her husband and ran off to the big city and now she's sitting in Bobby and Gene's room and crying in an ugly slip. Real talk: I have never been a fan of Elizabeth Reaser, particularly, but I think she's pretty decent in this role. But the whole time she is talking to Don, my internal monologue is like "WHOOOOOO CAAAAAARES WHERE'S SALLY?" I get that she in, in many ways, both a Lady Dick Whitman and a stand-in for Don's own mother, but I hate it when shows ask you to get invested in a character in the last gasp, to the detriment of people who we already know and care about. She may just be a vehicle to tell a story about Don, but she still feels like she's horning in on our precious last moments with other people we might never get to see again.

## UGH SLYVIA

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2015/04/IMG_9562.jpg)

I really, REALLY hated Sylvia last season, you guys, and I swear it was 85% because that wig is so unflattering on Linda Cardellini.Getting her and Diana The Meaningful Waitress in the same shot almost broke my face. Can we please PLEASE hang out with Joan next week? Thanks!

[Fug The Show: Mad Men recap, season 7, episode 9, "New Business"I am sorry to say I've never rolled my eyes more in one episode of Mad Men. Thus, this week our methodology shall be the Mad Men Eye Roll Index. PS: I've also never seen more vests in my life. PPS: I do not understand why we are spending so much time with Elizabeth Reaser, or Megan's family. WHOOOOOOOOOO CARES.![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/bf/b9/bfb99790-924d-4e41-a7e6-5e3c6e04fe57/content/images/static-gofugyourself-com/uploads/2015/04/img_9531.jpg)](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/fug-the-show-mad-men-recap-season-7-episode-9-new-business-04-2015/)
