## Did anyone else notice that this magazine also has no title?

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3377.xml)

This publication is a marvel. Who is Janie, and what is her big event? Can't they tease ONE actual celebrity's heartbreak (other than Tami's, obviously)? And about whom is all this hot gossip? The top of that sucker basically says, "We aren't legally allowed to mention any real celebrities, and we all forgot that we probably should've put a story about Hayden Panettiere's character on there somewhere, so... yeah." And then at the bottom, we have a mention of the French foreign legion, some punk rock person with a photo you know somebody's niece put on Instagram, and then the single greatest scoop in the world. And then Tami's divorce. AND NO MASTHEAD. Maybe its name is *That Magazine*, and they figure they don't need a masthead because people will get it right just by pointing to it and saying, "I want to buy that magazine."

## Hayden and Mom

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3359.xml)

Anyway, the episode actually begins with Hayden, wearing a fabulous jacket AGAIN. She is at the mall with her mother, who was apparently given an Ann Taylor card when she got out of rehab. They're getting along fine, but Hayden is still dismissive of other people -- except when the mom suggests throwing Deacon a surprise birthday party. Because he hates parties, Hayden instantly deems this a brilliant idea.

## Tami

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3361.xml)

Tami lets Teddy know that their daughter knows about him and Peggy, and that he needs to stay away from her FOREVER. Because Tami can hire her ex-lover and one true soulmate to play in her band for twenty years, but Teddy isn't allowed to have sex. (I get that she doesn't want their kids to be party to this, but there's no way they never saw nor heard any gossip about Tami and Deacon and ONE OF THEM IS DEACON'S BABY ALLEGEDLY PROBABLY, so T-bone kind of doesn't have a leg to stand on here.)

## OH HI MOM

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3371.xml)

This is so great. So, Tami and her sister Tandy are at the supermarket, discussing her divorce (Tandy is being strangely supportive), and they turn around and see Maddie -- yes, I totally looked up her name -- leaning against a GIANT STACK of magazines, all of which are screaming the scoop about Tami's divorce, alleging that Deacon came between them. In the real Internet world that would have leaked online before the magazine hit stands, but this is the first Tami has heard of it somehow, and it's deliciously passive-aggressive for her to find out by seeing her kid casually reading it at the grocery store. Because you KNOW everyone is aware whose kid that is. Well, who her MOTHER is anyway. AHEM. Prediction: They get Tami and Deacon together, or close to it, and then he finds out -- maybe even because Powers Boothe wants to split them up and so he spills the beans -- that Maddie is his daughter and he dumps Tami over the lie.

## The tabloid

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3374.xml)

"STRUMMIN' KEEPS HER HUMMIN'," *That Magazine* claims, asserting that she hooked up with both Deacon and Liam. Which is TECHNICALLY true if you count elevator smooches and hallway tongue.

## LOL

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3379.xml)

Deacon is perhaps not best pleased to find out about all this while buying his Easy Mac.

## Tami

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/03/nIMG_3384.png)

Tami's manager brings in a publicist, and this is the face Tami makes when the woman has the GALL to ask her about the story which she's being brought in to manage, which is also the face I made at those jeans. They turn her into a square. Also, Tami, you were not born yesterday. Stop acting like it. I guess Nashville is a more celeb-friendly place to live than L.A., but I still can't believe NOBODY was whispering about this before, and that she NEVER got chased around about it, and NEVER IN HER LIFE had to deal with a messy half-truth getting splashed into the magazines. Her manager tells her to stay away from Deacon, which he shouldn't have said, because obviously now all she wants to do is NOT stay away from Deacon.

## Scarlett

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3373.xml)

So, as is her wont, Scarlett sits around the house acting like an extra in *Annie*. Then she offers to Gunnar that she can do the brothers' laundry, so he goes into Jason's room to scoop some dirty clothes and a gun drops out of the basket and onto the floor, skittering toward Scarlett. She flips her lid in her mumbly-yet-sensible way, and Gunnar runs out of the house in a dark rage. Trouble is nigh, and now accessorizing with arm-warmers.

## Gunnar and Jason

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/03/nIMG_3366.png)

Gunnar and his brother decide to use paper grocery bags to charm the heck out of Scarlett and sing old jingles from when they were grocery baggers. It's totally adorable, which is how you know that trouble is a-comin' and it's wearing leggings as pants.

## Bros Before Gun Shows

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3381.xml)

Jason claims he has the gun to keep himself safe from his enemies. His vague, ill-drawn enemies from prison in Texas that clearly are chasing him all around the U.S.A. Gunnar angrily hurls the gun into the river; Jason spits that Gunnar owes him a normal life now because Gunnar is why he got caught, and his ruined life is all Gunnar's fault. Gunnar tells him not to come home, because of all the LIES and the MEAN, and storms off, unaware that Dark Times are getting ready to join Trouble at the party, wearing a beret and chaps.

## Rehab Boy

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/03/nIMG_3370.png)

"Hey, Hayden? I don't know you, but your mom gave me your address, and now I'm staring into your foyer. AT you. Any random person your mother bumps into could do this too. Maybe this is a bad idea?"

## Dante and Hayden

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/03/nIMG_3387.png)

Dante, as it turns out, is Mama's rehab counselor. He lectures Hayden about her disinterest in participating in recovery, and says it's only when family chips in that things really start to work. Hayden would rather roll her eyes and play acoustic yearning.

## SNAP

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3390.xml)

Picking up the girls from dance class, a nosy lady makes nice about the divorce and then pats Tami on the arm and says it's not like they haven't already been buzzing about her and Deacon for years, so no big deal. Tami seems surprised by this. REALLY. And then, leaving, everyone gets papped bigtime, despite Tami's extremely clever use of a very small hat.

## Teddy

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3396.xml)

Teddy gets up at a press conference, standing in front of a logo that makes him look like an illustration from a really, really poorly conceived contemporary *Bible*, and tells everyone to buzz off with the divorce stuff. Then he makes two big hires, and one of them is... Peggy Kenter. As his FINANCE GIRL. To recap: A person he was rumored to be sleeping with, and with whom he has a HUGELY checkered financial past, is hired in his administration and NONE of the assembled extras bust out with so much as a whispered "peas and carrots"? Come on.

## Tami

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3397.xml)

Tami agrees with me.

## Powers Boothe

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3399.xml)

She also employs that face to telegraph her distaste for Powers Boothe's arrival. But he's actually super supportive of her divorce all of a sudden. I don't know. I tuned out a little? But he seemed to be trying to make amends, and also, they probably have him on contract for a set number of episodes and don't want to waste the cash.

## SURPRIIIIISE

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3400.xml)

Hayden gets Scarlett to drag Deacon to his party at the Bluebird. This is what awaited him and it is fantastic. I got a bunch of cardboard cutouts of my husband for his 40th birthday party and they are my favorite thing. But what you never think of is what you're going to do with these things AFTER the party. It's too hard to throw them out. I sent some to my sister's family for Christmas and they used them as placemats.

## Hayden

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3404.xml)

Hayden has struck the right innocent-but-casual note with her clothes, but that is a super cheesy banner. And I like cheese, but I feel like she'd have spent a LOT more money on something better.

## Scarlett

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3408.xml)

Because Scarlett helped get Deacon there under the false pretense of playing a show with Gunnar, Hayden lets them do a song. It's very slow and it's great, and they sound awesome, but seriously, y'all haven't heard of firing up the crowd before you depress them? But I guess everyone we've seen singing at the Bluebird on this show has done something gritty and blue, so everyone's used to it. Also, Scarlett's hair looks differently terrible in every episode, in ways that absolutely fascinate me. And that belt is fine but the dress isn't very flattering... but, I guess I can't pick nits, because she's supposed to be kind of a mess.

## Hayden and Deacon

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3410.xml)

Hayden looks at them like someone just fed her a plate of forks, and whispers to Deacon that if she'd known they were that good she wouldn't have let them open up for her. Also, apparently that guy in the hat is a singer named Kip Moore. He is one of many cameos in this episode, which included Pam Tillis...

## Cameos

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3429.xml)

... and Vince Gill, back there in the clear-framed glasses, and Dan Auerbach from The Black Keys.

## Lucky

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3415.xml)

And Lucky finds out he's not on the list, so he's all humbled and miserable. His plot is that he dropped $25k from his $100k check -- dude, did you forget that the Tax Man is taking a chunk of that? -- on a fancy guitar, but ran into Watty White (the legendary guy who is BFFs with Tami), got some vague advice about his dissatisfaction with his career, and then turned up here on the outside looking in -- so he returns the guitar later and looks for something more regular. Boring. They need to spice him up pretty soon, or else he's going to be totally superfluous.

## Wheeling and dealing

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3416.xml)

Powers shows up to Teddy's office, which is hilariously devoid of ANY modern trappings. Seriously, there is no computer. You could argue that it's because it used to be Powers's, and his home office doesn't have one either, but there's no way anything gets done anymore without your captain having a freaking COMPUTER. Anyway, Powers basically tells Teddy whom else to hire, and Teddy tells him to shove it, which Powers DOES NOT LIKE.

## Tami

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3421.xml)

Against everyone's advice, Tami goes to Deacon's party with Watty, braving a paparazzi swarm and lots of invasive questions about her personal life. She then sings Deacon a torchy, smoky song she dedicates to him that is called "Pour Me Something Stronger Than Me," or somesuch, and it's GREAT, but it's ALSO super sad and leads to the two of them giving each other really pregnant, longing looks. So, way to quiet the gossips, there, Tami.

## Squeeeeeeeze

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3455.xml)

But the night ends with Tami and Deacon talking briefly, and she apologizes for how he found out and says she wanted to keep him out of it, and wants to do right by him. They end with clasped hands before she walks away, and Deacon basically just looks bemused the entire time, as if he's not ENTIRELY sure he didn't just fall asleep during his annual *Old Yeller* viewing (a running gag throughout) and dream this entire night.

## Gulp

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3432.xml)

When Hayden cues a toast for Deacon, her mother eagerly takes a sip of the proffered champagne, which leads to chugging, which leads to...

## SHAME

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3435.xml)

...back-room queasyness. Hayden has to take her home, which means she doesn't get to sing for Deacon. "I hear you sing all the time," he tells her. But she wanted to sing HERE -- which, she doesn't say but is thinking, is because she's never been invited to sing at the Bluebird and won't feel like anyone takes her seriously until she is. Fair enough, but they kept talking about how this was supposed to be their regular open-mic night, so... you know what to do, Miss Hayden.

## Teddy and Peggy

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3438.xml)

And THEN Peggy comes by and closes the door all seductively, and they pant to each other about how her new job means weekly conferences and plenty of excuses for her to be in the office, so they can continue to shag without arousing anything but each other. And then she saunters past and it's implied they do it on the desk. Or, somewhere. Regardless of the specifics, It is being done.

## Hayden

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3445.xml)

And at home, Hayden's mother slurs an apology for ruining her party. And she doesn't mean Deacon's -- she means Hayden's ninth birthday. Hayden stays and strokes her forehead and seems very sad about all this, instead of flying off the handle like she normally does. Why? Because she NEEDS to stay so that she and Dante the Addiction Counselor can bond and then later have sex, which will probably upset the mother, who I suspect ALSO wants to ride him to freedom.

## Dante

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/03/nIMG_3452.png)

And on cue, Dante pops up, and asks about her ninth birthday. Hayden says her mother rented out a place for them to have a party, then blew all the money on her vices. So Hayden ran away from home, and when she came back, the mother had passed out on the couch with a lit cigarette and the carpet was starting to catch fire, and she contemplated leaving again and letting her mother burn. But she didn't. Dante listens and mentally starts imagining when is too soon to give the lady you're about to sleep with some bright throwpillows because her house looks chillier than an igloo.

## Gunnar

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3448.xml)

Meanwhile, Gunnar has been escorted away from the party by the cops... to identify his brother's body. The guy they hired to play the cop tries really hard to look sympathetic and sad here. But it is actually a little sad. It's also very FAST. I assumed they'd have Jason bolt again and then have him come and go as needed to stir up trouble and/or emotions, but I guess not. This feels like kind of a large decision. Maybe that's just because I don't like to see Gunnar cry.

## Deacon

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3463.xml)

The next day, Hayden's assistant delivers Deacon the gift of an Old Yeller of his very own. He's like, "WHAT DO I DO WITH THIS?" That is not a very sensitive gift to give somebody who is on tour a lot, although they make a point of saying that Hayden's tour welcomes pets. But it's ALSO kind of a weird gift for someone who doesn't want a dog. Hayden's assistant is all, "She said you'd say that," but... obviously, he is going to come to love that dog, but still. In real life, if someone says they don't want a dog, don't pooh-pooh them and then get them a dog. It's like someone telling you they're allergic to something, but you serving it to them anyway because you don't believe them.

## Coleman

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3465.xml)

Teddy invites Coleman over and hires him to be his Deputy Mayor, saying that he has seen how Powers Boothe does business and he doesn't like it. Although he liked it enough to ride it straight to the big chair. Coleman says yes, which is great because when Teddy gets impeached for being stupid, Nashville will have a really good mayor.

## Scarlett

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3466.xml)

And Scarlett has been waiting at home for a long time, with no word from Gunnar. She has on her best worrying sweater. Does this girl not own a pair of jeans? It's not the law or anything, but... she might want to look into it. All that constant shaving to wear flouncy dresses can get really boring.

## GET IN THERE

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3473.xml)

And then BOOM, Gunnar tells her that his brother is dead and she comforts him and then she totally straddles him and they get it on. I am not looking forward to the blinky downward gazes and garbled awkwardness that will probably come from this, but: THANK GOD. Nashville's 2013 slogan is clearly, "Everybody Get Some."

[Fug the Show: Nashville recap, season 1, episode 14This magazine nailed the most important headline in the history of journalism, fake or otherwise: "CARNIVOROUS ROACH PLAYS POSSUM, THEN POUNCES ON PREY." I knew it. I KNEW THEY'D BE COMING FOR US.![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nimg_3377.xml)](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/fug-the-show-nashville-2-03-2013/)
