## Barretteville

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/bf/b9/bfb99790-924d-4e41-a7e6-5e3c6e04fe57/content/images/static-gofugyourself-com/uploads/2013/12/img_8833-1024x7681.jpg)

Juliette is having a rough day, because the whole world thinks she's a floozy for breaking up Charlie Wentworth's marriage, and she's so discombobulated -- by that, and the fact that anyone cares who he is at all -- that she even puts a giant flower on her head that ordinarily she would hurl at Layla in the hope of decapitating her. Avery is back to play with her because she needs a friend, and some advice on how not to have sleazy-looking hair.

## Gigglesville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/12/IMG_8837-1024x7681.jpg)

These two are all lovey-dovey, but Luke can't seem to stop talking about how it's crazy that Rayna wants to buy out Edgehill, and -- let's just skip to this part -- eventually Rayna realizes that he's pulling away from her the further she pulls away from Oliver Hudson's record company, and so her romance appears to be dead. This episode made me wonder if Luke had been assigned to her by Oliver, so to speak, to keep her happy and make her play along, and now that Rayna has decided not to do that, and therefore won't be promoting their duet, he's done with her. The show ITSELF does not draw that conclusion, but it's the only logical one, to me; otherwise, it's really strange that Luke would back away just because she's not going to promote a duet that isn't the reason they started sleeping together in the first place. Basically they just needed to write him off the show, I guess. I'm still sad Mr. Macho Country Singer didn't have a torrid affair with Will, aka Junior Macho Country Singer.

## Frauleinville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/12/IMG_8839-1024x7681.jpg)

And then Maria came back from the Abbey, full of confidence in meeeeeeeee, and marches her guitar and her carpet bag right past the Baroness without even looking twice at her.

## Stripville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/img_8843-1024x7681.xml)

Layla can't get Will's attention, because he's staring at Facebook photos of Brent -- who we now know is single. So Layla flashes him, and Will realizes he's supposed to be keeping her happy, so he throws her down on the bed for some half-hearted sex. What guy of this age has lights strung up in his room? Do we think Scarlett left those there for him? Come on, kid. This isn't your dorm.

## Bandville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/12/IMG_8847-1024x7681.jpg)

Deacon finds out he's off the docket at the Music City Music Festival, and Gunnar finds out his promised spot from Jeff Fordham is on Stage BFE way off by the portable toilets. So Deacon hatches a plan: He gets permission from the dude who owns the adjacent parking lot, and decides they should throw a show at night there, right by the exit, right after the main-stage acts end. Gunnar's hair is intrigued by this idea. Although actually, he looks really good right here. I love what he's wearing and his giant swoop of hair and he sounds great and he's nice but not a doormat and I might actually love Gunnar. I wish HE would sleep with someone interesting. I don't mind Zoey, but she's a bit of a snore.

## Zzzville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/12/IMG_8850-1024x768.jpg)

Scarlett does think to tell Avery that she's not freezing out Zoey because she's jealous about Gunnar; it's just because they didn't tell her about it. This is patently false because the ONLY reason you give the silent to your lifelong friend in this scenario is if you're secretly not over your ex. Yeah, it's not ideal that they're hooking up, but if your ONLY problem is that they hadn't found a way to tell you yet, then icing them out is way extreme. Then again, Scarlett is totally incapable of existing in a world made up of grown-up emotions, so.

## Angerville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/img_8852-1024x7681.xml)

Juliette is pissed that this Charlie thing has legs, so she tasks Glenn with the witch hunt: She wants a name and she wants it now, so she can blame someone for this and move on and keep her reputation clean. She harangues him the entire episode to GET HER A NAME. Glenn is an angel. I've also just now decided that Glenn is secretly the grown-up Glenn Coco from "Mean Girls" even though that makes no time sense. Four for Glenn Coco! YOU GO GLENN COCO.

## Confrontationville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/img_8857-1024x7681.xml)

Oliver Hudson is busy skinny-dipping with a young girl at his mansion, when Rayna shows up to blah blah blah about "You can't release this" and "I'm going to pay you $20 million" and even Oliver Hudson basically acts like he can't BELIEVE they are having this conversation AGAIN, like, we are ten episodes into the season and yet are EXACTLY where we were in episode two. Same episode arc with them, over and over and over. It is SO BORING. Thank God Rayna decides to act at the end of the episode so that at least SOMETHING will be different in the back part of the season, but when the whole thing becomes overrun with "is Rayna going broke" and other such business minutiae, it might be even worse. At least she didn't have to sell her collection of pants.

## Investorville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/img_8861-1024x7681.xml)

By the way, Rayna gets the money by a) Tandy offering her $3 million and promising to run the business side of things; and b) mortgaging her house and selling all her stocks. I have Feelings about this. Rayna has two daughters and yet she's cleaning out her entire nest egg to launch this vanity label? I am all for pursuing your dreams, but scraping your last $17 million together to fluff your ego is bad money management ESPECIALLY WHEN THE SHOW DID A WHOLE STORY ABOUT HOW THEY WERE ALMOST BANKRUPT LAST SEASON. And further, your sister offering to manage said business? WAS MANAGING THE BUSINESS OF YOUR FATHER'S THAT IS NOW BEING INVESTIGATED FOR TOTAL CORRUPTION. It is impossible to root for Rayna's decision here, except that now I am concerned Maddie and Daphne are going to have to busk for their college funds.

## Wigville?

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/img_8870-1024x7681.xml)

This whole episode, I was distracted by Hayden's hair. At the hairline, it looks like it's just been plopped there, but the rest of it seems like it might be her actual hair? I can't tell and I was totally obsessed about it the whole time, which is never a good sign. Anyway, Juliette susses out that Layla tipped off TMZ, and they hiss and snarl at each other, and Oliver Hudson hears and basically tells Juliette to calm the hell down. She will not. SHE WILL NOT BE TAMED.

## Hairville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/img_8875-1024x7681.xml)

Speaking of not being tamed: Gunnar's hair. It looks like it's trying to become a punctuation mark. He tries to have an awkward conversation about why Scarlett hates him, and Deacon is like, "Let us simply pretend that's not a thing," because even HE can't deal with that child's inability to live in the world.

## Jacketville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/12/IMG_8877-1024x7681.jpg)

I just wanted you all to see this hot jacket. The scene is another one where Rayna realizes Luke won't stop talking about the label, as if he's on the phone with Oliver Hudson every three seconds, and that is basically a complete vaginal cooldown for her.

## Snubville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/img_8886-1024x7681.xml)

Zoey chases down Scarlett and tries to explain that she and Gunnar weren't having sex just because they were horny, and that they accidentally have Real Feelings, and Scarlett simply won't listen. Clare Bowen looks, facially, totally gorgeous, and her hair color FINALLY suits her and her extensions look MILDLY less like someone just flossed their teeth with them, and that is all wonderful, but WHAT IS SHE EVER WEARING ANYMORE. It's like Punk Ballet Rodeo. She ALSO bursts into tears and Deacon -- though huggy and generally awesome -- is like, "Um, shake it off, you have fans coming," and Scarlett has to learn more things about how to have feelings. I think... I can see pieces of an arc here, where she was maybe thrust into the spotlight before she was ready, but that's not QUITE the story they're ACTUALLY telling, and they've veered into this "I HATE MY LIFELONG FRIEND NOW" stuff, and so it's all muddy and inauthentic and diminishes the scrappy parts of her character that were likable.

## Stepmotherville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/img_8889-1024x7681.xml)

Peggy is being super nurturing and motherly this episode, so obviously she is going to be in mortal peril. Here, Maddie has heard that Deacon is playing a show that night and she wants to go, and Peggy asks her not to out of support for Teddy, which is not unreasonable even though I also understand why Maddie would be upset at that. My suspicion is that Peggy does indeed die and this scene is Maddie's reason for feeling really badly about it all. The surest sign of killing a character is to make them sane and rational and pleasant right beforehand.

## Willville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/12/IMG_8890-1024x7681.jpg)

Layla watches Will's set like she wants to eat him in a bun with mustard. Brent -- who, by the way, figured out that Will beat the crap out of those guys who were verbally abusive to Brent and his boyfriend -- ALSO watches the show this way, from the front row, practically standing ON stage while he claps and gyrates. I keep waiting for the ever-observant Layla to notice these things, especially when Will practically starts singing to Brent, but no. I guess it's gay-blindness.

## Pantsville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/12/IMG_8896-1024x7681.jpg)

Juliette takes a page from The Big Book of Rayna and wears very tight shiny pants on-stage, possibly because she's tired of trying to figure out how to dance and squat in a short skirt without flashing everyone.

## Bannerville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/12/IMG_8899-1024x7681.jpg)

And of course, several people in the audience, who paid a TON of money for their seats, have chosen to handle the latest news by crafting, sneaking in, and then unrolling a giant banner that says HOMEWRECKER. Why not just sell the tickets to someone who WANTS great seats and DOESN'T have a sudden burning hatred of the performer? Make a profit.

## Averyville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/img_8897-1024x7681.xml)

In a very well-acted scene, Juliette is so flustered that she turns around and walks back up to Avery and stares at him in open pain, and he leans in and turns the song into a duet, and walks with her back to the front, every inch an emotional crutch for her. It works, and the song comes out great, but it's a really nice rapport here -- I think this is the one relationship that has been developed properly and at the right pace. Even when I was like, "GET THEM TOGETHER ALREADY," I think the way it's played out has been timed right.

## Awesomeville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/img_8900-1024x7681.xml)

I can't decide if the props department forgot the "er" or if they were going for maximum realism, which is totally that these a-holes would have painted HOME WRECK and forgotten to leave enough room for the last two letters.

## Breakdownville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/img_8905-1024x7681.xml)

Juliette has a breakdown in her dressing room, and after expelling Glenn in her rage, Avery comes to console her. And he does, without trying to tell her it wasn't that bad, or to get over it. He's just proud of her for getting through it. Juliette brokenly says it was never supposed to turn into this, and you do get the feeling of someone who is just emotionally damaged and making rotten decisions, and Avery doesn't judge her. Instead, he points out that instead of trying to wage and win a PR war, she should remember she doesn't owe anyone anything. This is a blinkered outlook -- Juliette HAS had massive image problems -- but he's also right that turning it into a duel isn't going to help. So she tells the press, politely, that she's not giving a comment because her private life is her own. Juliette is being RESTRAINED. It's strange. And will probably only last until the next episode, because her whole thing is hugging and learning and then forgetting.

## Backslideville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/img_8906-1024x7681.xml)

So, of course, Brent and Will end up in bed. And Will hates himself. Even though Will should be pleased with himself, because Brent is super cute. I never really thought Will HATED himself for his proclivities; just that he thought they were an impediment to superstardom. But now they're playing it like full-on seething self-loathing. That seems exhausting. Poor Will. He should really meet Walt from "The Carrie Diaries." Maybe Walt grew up and fathered a kid and that kid is Brent. Let's decide that's true.

## Bustedville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/img_8909-1024x7681.xml)

Oliver calls out Layla on her nasty behavior toward one of Edgehill's biggest artists -- clearly what Juliette said to him struck him as true -- and tells her that PLENTY of other reality show runners-up will be lining up to take her place, so she shouldn't get too pleased with herself. I am waiting and waiting and WAITING for his scandalous affair with someone. Surely it's coming. Surely Oliver Hudson didn't climb naked out of his home pool just so he could have ZERO SURREPTITIOUS INTERCOURSE with any of these people.

## Stageville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/img_8912-1024x7681.xml)

Deacon's show, meanwhile, goes awesomely. And it looks awesome. And way more fun, and way more free, than the other one. Teddy called the cops to try and shut it down, but all the permits were in order, so he had to suck it up and deal. Which I'm sure is a flashback to his entire marriage to Rayna.

## Chillville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/img_8914-1024x7681.xml)

Scarlett finally tells Zoey that she's basically dead to her, and that she was a lot nicer before she came to Nashville. I take issue with this so hard. I know it sucks, and it's weird, but Scarlett: You are dating Avery. Zoey has been nothing but supportive of you, and shoved down her issues so she could be the shoulder for you. And you treated Gunnar like he was the plague. OF COURSE he was going to move on, and OF COURSE you weren't going to like it, and OF COURSE it was going to be hard to tell you because OF COURSE they all know you are the worst-adjusted person in the universe. I can't understand why any of them are even friends with her at this point.

And up comes Avery, so wet-eyed and awkward that I actually thought maybe I'd missed a scene where he and Juliette kissed. But no. Maybe they cut one out because they thought it tipped things too hard.

## SIGHville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/img_8918-1024x7681.xml)

Okay, and here: Rayna has come to see the end of Deacon's show, and congratulates him. She is also about to go broke and has only one artist signed to her record label. I thought this would lead to her swallowing her pride and signing DEACON, because that would be smart, right? So, OF COURSE NOT. And THEN...

## WHYville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/12/IMG_8919-1024x7681.jpg)

... Rayna stands there ignores Gunnar. Why do they make Rayna totally oblivious to Gunnar's existence? He is REALLY REALLY CUTE. He's REALLY REALLY TALENTED. You ALMOST SIGNED HIM ONCE EVEN THOUGH YOU FORGOT ABOUT THAT. He writes songs that young girls who buy music are going to LOVE pining over, and he's adorable, and he's UNSIGNED, and he already penned a hit single for Luke Wheeler and another one for Will. SIGN HIM RAYNA SIGN HIM HARD. (Not for nothing, this would put him and Scarlett in the same orbit, awkwardly, which is what I THOUGHT they were doing with the tour bus thing but which ended up fizzling completely because they never spoke.) But no. She just, again, ignores him. Confirming my suspicions that Rayna is the worst.

## Bootyville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/12/IMG_8922-1024x7681.jpg)

Avery and Scarlett go home and have grief sex -- or, I assume it's grief sex. Scarlett is all mopey and awful about Gunnar and Zoey, and Avery is all quiet and subdued after his intense duet with Juliette, so I'm assuming they're doing the "love the one you're with" thing.

## Charlieville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/12/IMG_8923-1024x7681.jpg)

Charlie pops up and tells Juliette that he's divorcing Olivia anyway, because why not. And that she opened his eyes up to what love could be, blah blah blah. They dated for like three seconds; this guy is a mess.

## Coupleville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/12/IMG_8924-1024x7681.jpg)

Zoey decides that Scarlett is not a very good friend, so she picks Gunnar. Honestly, I respect the Girl Code, but I'd also pick Gunnar. Zoey doesn't have that much charisma, but I'm rooting for her because there is no sympathy to be had for the bratty, judgmental, immature way Scarlett has behaved. I used to like her, back when she gave people what-for when they buried their heads in dark anal places. How times have changed. Now they are HER dark anal places.

## Suicideville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/img_8925-1024x7681.xml)

And then, randomly, Will steps in front of a train. This FEELS like it's just a misdirect so people won't think it's obvious that Peggy is dead? But I could be wrong. Poor Will. I'm not sure this suicide attempt felt earned, but he HAS been a ragey crankball lately so maybe it IS self-loathing and not just pent-up jealousy and hormones.

## Confessionville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/img_8926-1024x7681.xml)

And THEN, in a great scene, Juliette rushes to Avery's door, crying gently, and tells him that she's always wanted to say "I love you" to someone and mean it, and just as she's gotten this declaration of feeling out of her mouth...

## D'ohville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/img_8927-1024x7681.xml)

... Scarlett pops up in the background, all, "Um, hi?" Because she is a ruiner who ruins things. Juliette covers and tries to leave, but tears stream down her face -- it's so well-acted; I am seriously thrilled the Golden Globes nominated her -- as Avery calls weakly after her. It's unclear whether Scarlett realizes what's going on, or if she's mentally checked out because she's trying to design new braid configurations.

## PlayingNiceville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/img_8929-1024x7681.xml)

And Peggy being all nice and sweet extends to this scene with Rayna, after which she pulls Teddy aside and tells him that she's going to pour all her money into Highway 65 Records and maybe he should know about that since they share children who will be pawning their shoes for college. And THEN a burly dude bumps into Teddy and brandishes a gun and they tussle and BOOM...

## Deadville?

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/12/IMG_8931-1024x7681.jpg)

... and Peggy goes down. I'm not totally sure what the point of all this is -- bringing Peggy in, making her fake the pregnancy, etc., and then killing her. I think a mental breakdown would've been more fun, when Teddy found the pork blood in the mini-fridge or whatever. I hope he finds it ANYWAY and then dances on her grave in a grieving drunken stupor while hurling it everywhere. I DO suppose maybe Will is the one who'll end up dead, but SURELY Nashville won't kill off the better story before they've even told it. Then again, I'm not sure I have a WHOLE lot of trust in whatever's been happening in this writer's room, as evidenced by Rayna's entire arc so far being, "Should I buy out my record contract? Yes. But I can't. But can I? Maybe. YES. No. Sure!" I love SO MANY elements of "Nashville," like Deacon and Avery/Juliette and Gunnar. I just want to love the rest.

[Fug the Show: Nashville recap, season 2, episode 10The problem with watching this on Hulu is that I totally missed all the promos insisting that SOMEONE WOULD DIE this week. Only one of the eventual candidates surprised me.![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/bf/b9/bfb99790-924d-4e41-a7e6-5e3c6e04fe57/content/images/static-gofugyourself-com/uploads/2013/12/img_8833-1024x7681.jpg)](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/fug-the-show-nashville-episode-2-10-12-2013/)
