## Insomniaville

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/bf/b9/bfb99790-924d-4e41-a7e6-5e3c6e04fe57/content/images/static-gofugyourself-com/uploads/2016/03/nashville-recap-season-4-episode-13-recap-1-e1459475665547.png)

Rayna has allegedly been up for untold hours thinking about how sad she is that Vita might be a thief. I would like to note that if this is her Up For Untold Hours hair, then she really IS blessed. My Up For One Hour hair is worse than that. It looks like a sneezing lion.

## Google Docsville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/03/NASHVILLE-recap-season-4-episode-13-recap-3.png)

Glenn has a whole spreadsheet about how busy Layla is, but all she wants to do is talk about how working with Avery is the only thing that gives her life anymore. Glenn responds to this with a VERY knowing look and some sympathetic clucking noises. But I have a more important issue. Glenn, being a wearer of an elaborate rug, clearly cares a lot about hair. So why hasnt he asked Layla to stop trimming her bangs with toenail clippers?

## Reboundville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/03/NASHVILLE-recap-season-4-episode-13-recap-4.png)

Avery gets hit on by a single mom at the park, and the two of them go on a pair of dates and even make out and Lord knows what else. But she very nicely points out that he can't stop yapping about the sins of his ex, and perhaps he's not ready to be involved with another person. It's implied she didn't recognize him -- she was too blinded by mixing patterns? -- but he makes it clear without saying her name that Juliette the Megastar is his ex, and the way he unloads about her... I know Avery is mad, but I never thought he'd be that indiscreet. I sincerely expected to find out she was playing him for Juliette gossip, because he was so crazily forthcoming. (He doesn't say Juliette's name while WE are listening, and even if that allegedly held true for the entire date, either a) she already knew and is just storing up info, or b) she is a human woman in a world with smartphones and googled the fuck out of him and found out anyway. Just... I feel for him, but it was weird to have him be so gabby.)

## Coneheadville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/03/NASHVILLE-recap-season-4-episode-13-recap-5.png)

Gunnar reveals he is the conic love child of Dan Ackroyd and Jane Curtin, and that aliens on other planets are extremely confused by how Highway 65 does business.

## Anthroville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/03/NASHVILLE-recap-season-4-episode-13-recap-7.png)

No, what's actually happening: Everyone at H65 loves The Exes' album, but they have to lock down the publishing credits, and further, they want to release a song Scarlett wrote and largely sings alone. Scarlett is freaking out about this, but Gunnar would just rather stare at his junk through the telescope of his beer bottle.

In fact, what happens is that Gunnar is COMPLETELY cool about this and doesn't take it at all personally, but Scarlett is adamant that her songwriting career owes him a debt, and they agree that they will get 50-50 credit on every single thing they do, so that it's all fair, all split up the middle. This doesn't address Scarlett's actually excellent point that when you're launching a duo, doing it with a song that's effectively a solo is strange. Y'all, Captain Mumbles is RIGHT ABOUT THIS. Can you just not understand her? Is that the issue?

## Vitaville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/03/NASHVILLE-recap-season-4-episode-13-recap-6.png)

Vita shows up for her meeting with Rayna as promised, and acts horrified that anyone would steal money from Deacon. She also goes over a bit of her past, which involves a sob story about her sister and the foster system and other such very sad hard times and separation. No mention is made of how old the sister is, I don't think, or even where she is? But Vita has been living out of her car and paying a store owner to let her park it in his lot, and there is mention of living in the car WITH her sister, somehow? If this were a soapier show, I would assume Vita has an identical twin sister and that they've been switching back and forth, or that she is schizophrenic and only THINKS she has a sister. Or maybe she has multiple personalities. Remember: Nashville generally is not that show, so surely none of that will turn out to be true. BUT WHAT IF. Remember that time on One Life To Live when Viki Buchanan became Niki? At some point she also had a personality who was Victor, her rotter of a father. Oh, Viki. There is nothing better than an "alternate personality/identical twin pretending to be the other person" story. Rest in peace, David Canary, master of that art, O Captain My Captain.

## Gayville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/03/NASHVILLE-recap-season-4-episode-13-recap-8.png)

Will is recruited by an all-homosexual record label based in Atlanta, but it's quickly clear that they don't even listen to his music and just want to cash in on his story. They're all marketing, no art. And then some rando tells him that he can make his own album right now with all the fancy software in the world, and because he apparently is way into letting randos make his life decisions for him, he thinks this sounds like a peachy idea. Although Gunnar DOES have a full recording studio in his house. I'm sort of surprised none of them thought of that before, or helped him record anything. I guess he IS living there rent free, so there's a limit to what favors he can demand.

## Repentanceville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/03/NASHVILLE-recap-season-4-episode-13-recap-9.png)

Cole brings Maddie flowers to apologize for being a doofus. But she has crawled so far up Cash's ass that she can't figure out how to make time for him; this leads to him tagging onto their plans at the Bluebird, where Cash is performing. Which is great, but isn't The Bluebird supposedly harder to get into than that? Am I misremembering?

## Booville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/03/NASHVILLE-recap-season-4-episode-13-recap-10.png)

Anyway, these are the faces of the two people who are most upset that Maddie now worships at the altar of Cash. Maybe they should write a song about it.

## RIffville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/03/NASHVILLE-recap-season-4-episode-13-recap-11.png)

This guy, by the way, turns out to be an asshole. He signs onto Luke's tour and it sells out, but he's rusty vocally and musically, and blames it on Luke's band. He's wicked rude to Luke when Luke tries to help him out, and he throws in Luke's face that Luke's kids hate him. Riff is being a total Biff, basically.

## Singville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/03/NASHVILLE-recap-season-4-episode-13-recap-13.png)

Cash sings a song she and Maddie wrote together, all about how "you'd better mean business" if you put the moves on or whatever, and Cole is visibly underwhelmed. He also talks a lot about how much he digs being on the farm, and how his grandfather is real because he served in Vietnam -- as opposed to his dad, who just prances around on stage (his words, more or less). Maddie and Cash eyeroll this to death. I have to say, Maddie is... I know that she has no idea what Cole witnessed that night at the hotel, but she does know he's going through something. And for someone who is ENRAGED when people don't defer to her own feelings and issues, she's surprisingly unsympathetic to the fact that Cole obviously has stuff going on right now. In other words, Maddie is still being SUCH A TEENAGER.

## Landscapeville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/03/NASHVILLE-recap-season-4-episode-13-recap-15.png)

So, I guess Riff comes here wen he needs to think. And I honestly feel like... maybe this reads better in person. It's SO UNDERWHELMING. It's like, "I come here so I can commune with what POLLUTION HATH WROUGHT." Anyway, he admits to Luke that he sucks now, and Luke agrees, and promises to let him practice before his big promotional gig that night at -- yes -- The Beverly. I feel like this shot is The Beverly of Nashville views. It's supposed to be great but it's leaving me so cold.

## Tantrumville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/03/NASHVILLE-recap-season-4-episode-13-recap-16.png)

Cole and Maddie finally get some time alone, and instead of having sex -- she reminds us, by the way, that they haven't done it since the first time -- they argue. He thinks music is shallow; she thinks it's the be-all, end-all, and that farms are boring, or something. Oh, Maddie, where do you think all your meals grow? The Blue Apron Tree? She stands up and spits, "I love you BUT I DON'T LIKE YOU ANYMORE." Because he dares to have his own problems. TEEEEEEEEENAGERS. I can't wait to have them. (APRIL FOOLS.)

## Thiefville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/03/NASHVILLE-recap-season-4-episode-13-recap-17.png)

Frankie, at The Beverly, can't give Vita another chance. He confronts her, and she confesses to stealing the money. Rayna tracks her down at her Car House and asks what the deal is, and Vita says that she was going to pay it back but that her sister owes some money to some very bad people and blah blah blah protection. She begs for a fresh start, but Rayna can't give her one, and I don't blame her. It's one of those infuriating storylines where one person Has Information That Would Be Useful and resolutely refuses to give it to improve any conversation and/or opportunity. Also, I need to mention that when she performs her ode to her guitar earlier, it is clearly this actress's voice -- or an astonishingly good match to her speaking voice -- but she's also SO OBVIOUSLY lip-synching. It's unusual for this show, which is slicker than that.

## Glennville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/03/NASHVILLE-recap-season-4-episode-13-recap-18.png)

Speaking of slick: I love Glenn. Layla invites Avery to The Beverly, and he can't go because this is before he stopped dating Single Mom and so he was kind of excited about maybe getting laid. Layla got so upset about this that she started acting like a complete brat (although she is not wrong that the setup TOTALLY lacks imagination and looks like nobody thought about it for more than six seconds; it's like her and a guitar and that's it), and Glenn rolled in and SERVED IT. Basically, as gently as possible, he says that he understands she's in pain, but that he's been around this bend with Juliette once, where she acted like a huge brat and put everyone through the emotional wringer. And he refuses to do it to himself again. He then offers to fix whatever is really upsetting her, or they can just move on from each other. GLENN. LOOK AT YOU. Correctly reading a situation, having a lovely conversation, being firm but kind, telling her to Get A Grip... you are THE BEST. I hope next week Emily hands him The Royal We and says, "You are obviously the other awesome human on this show. READ THIS. YOU'VE EARNED IT."

## Gratitudeville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/03/NASHVILLE-recap-season-4-episode-13-recap-19.png)

Layla immediately confesses to being upset that Avery had plans, and she plays it like she wasn't expecting to feel that way -- and I had read the situation as Layla very deliberately trying to steal Juliette's personal life, but this feels more like Layla was clean of ulterior motives. I don't know if that's a mistake in direction or if the earlier episode was just... something I misread, or what. Anyway, Glenn kindly tells her that grief creates a void, but rushing to fill it just creates more grief, and that time is the only thing that can patch it. Basically, he handles it perfectly and Layla is happy and GLENN you are as sensible as your toupee is robust.

## Riffville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/03/NASHVILLE-recap-season-4-episode-13-recap-22.png)

Riff, by the way, after a day of rehearsing, sounds fine. But he waves off Luke's offer of a drink and the wink of a cute woman, because he wants to be with his family. He seems only about 92 percent into that, though, a percentage that I assume will plummet once he's on the road.

## Crappy Barville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/03/NASHVILLE-recap-season-4-episode-13-recap-20.png)

It would seem The Beverly realized it's the boil on Satan's ass's wart, and removed ALL the pews in favor of tables where people can put food and drinks. Unless the pews are just well hidden by... I don't know. I hate this bar so much. It can do no right by me.

Frankie, though, loves his bar. And he's mad that Deacon made him give Vita a chance, much less two, despite his reservations. He's furious that Deacon gave away Frankie's regular spot on-stage to Riff Hall, without asking. (Deacon apologizes on both fronts and reaffirms their partnership.) And he's REALLY REALLY mad that Deacon gets up on stage with Riff as the owner of the bar and never so much as tips his hat to Frankie -- and worse, two patrons are all, "Wow, Deacon really saved this place, it was a dump before." And I guess all of a sudden Frankie is on rocky ground because...

## Wagonville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/03/NASHVILLE-recap-season-4-episode-13-recap-24.png)

... he runs back into his shed and grabs a bottle and chugs. So Deacon's sponsor has bitten the dust. BECAUSE THIS BAR RUINS LIVES. JUST LIKE ITS NAMESAKE. THIS BAR IS THE BEVERLY OF BARS.

## Parentingville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/03/NASHVILLE-recap-season-4-episode-13-recap-21.png)

Rayna, though, bailed because she found a weepy Daphne in her room. It seems Maddie came home from dumping Cole and immediately ran to Cash, and wanted to talk to Cash, and confide in Cash, and then after Cash left she wanted to call Cash and talk some more. Cash has the good grace not to act bored, and instead encourages her to think of Cole as small-minded and lame. It actually comes across like Cash is trying to get Cole out of Maddie's life. Not quite sinister, exactly, but she's quick to undercut him where she can.

Anyway, Daphne is gutted. She had wanted to play them a song and they shooed her away, and she's upset when Rayna tells her Maddie and Cole split. "I would do anything for her," Daphne cries, hurt that Maddie wouldn't want to talk to her. Rayna lovingly just says, "You're her sister; she'd do anything for you," but wisely does not note that your much-younger sister is not so much the confidante you'd go to in this situation. And BLESS HER, Rayna bails on The Beverly to hang out and snuggle with Daphne, and Deacon CORRECTLY is completely fine with that. PARENTING FOR THE WIN.

## Whoopsville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/03/NASHVILLE-recap-season-4-episode-13-recap-25.png)

Well, except for Cole. He's still ignoring all of Luke's calls, and instead gazes lovingly and longingly at an Army recruitment poster. So I guess we know where all his hair is going to go.

## Sweaterville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/03/NASHVILLE-recap-season-4-episode-13-recap-26.png)

Layla is not UNHAPPY, per se, to hear that Avery's date went badly, but she's calm about it and supportive and they agree "as friends" to go hang out sometime. Avery, if you were really friends with her, you would tell her not to wear a sweater with a built-in choker. It's like a disintegrating turtleneck.

## Crimeville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2016/03/NASHVILLE-recap-season-4-episode-13-recap-27.png)

And then Rayna stumbles upon Vita's car, except now it's a crime scene. Her guitar has also been smashed to smithereens, and Vita is nowhere in sight. We are not in REMOTELY deep enough with this girl for me to care that much. I miss Laura Benanti.

[Fug the Show: Nashville recap, S4 Ep 13, "If I Could Do It All Again"In which Rayna is able to sign a functional new client so her business can thrive, Maddie cares about Daphne's well-being, and Nashville the city is shot with loving tenderness. APRIL FOOLS, obviously. None of that is true.![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/bf/b9/bfb99790-924d-4e41-a7e6-5e3c6e04fe57/content/images/static-gofugyourself-com/uploads/2016/03/nashville-recap-season-4-episode-13-recap-1-e1459475665547.png)](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/fug-the-show-nashville-recap-s4-ep-13-if-i-could-do-it-all-again-04-2016/)
