## Special Snowflakeville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17-2.xml)

I keep being perturbed that no one NOTICES that Scarlett looks like microwaved ass, but then I remember what she looked like when the show STARTED last season and I realize that they probably are just thinking she's returned to form. Poor Scarlett. Snow is slowly accumulating in her psyche and it is CHILLY up there and she's tired of shoveling.

## Auditionville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17-1.xml)

This is a seriously beautiful space for a random backup-singer audition. If Nashville is actually like that, then I can see another reason people dig it. Anyway, this week Zoey auditions to sing on some anonymous person's six-mouth national tour, so now both she AND Avery are begging off the Scarlett's Exes band (tm a smart Fug National who should stand up in the comments, because I don't remember who said it first). Gunnar, who was having a lot of buzzy success like two episodes ago, is now sad about writing all the time and misses performing. But he might get lucky again, because Zoey doesn't get the job... and besides, if they have a band that good where she is the FRONTWOMAN, why not do it? DREAM BIG, ZOEY. Also, I just read that Zoey and Gunnar are dating in real life, which makes me strangely pleased. She doesn't really register as essential to this show, but I like her fine, and the three of them DO sound awesome.

## Bratville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17-3.xml)

Maddie's grades are sinking because all she wants to do is play her guitar and sing. Teddy tries some firm parenting and gets nowhere with her, so their whole duet this episode is, "Being responsible comes first" // "I hate you and you don't understand MUSIC" // "You're grounded" // "Mom understands me!" // "Mom agrees with ME"// "Then I WANT MY REAL DAD" // "You're grounded for a month now and take that eyeliner off your face" // "EVERYBODY IS A MEAN MEANIE WHO MEANS." I can't wait for my kids to hit the teen years, by which I mean, please someone put me in a coma and wake me up when they're 23\. At least they're boys. But then I'll be dealing with fistfights and wedgies, so actually, hold firm on the coma plans.

## Shockville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17-4.xml)

Juliette shows up for her first Highway 65 meeting, and her plans for a digital release of "Don't Put Dirt On My Grave Just Yet" are met with silence. Tandy thinks she should drop Will Lexington from her upcoming tour dates because his album is competing with Rayna's -- this is not a terrible point -- but they also won't let Juliette tell anyone she's even ON Highway 65 yet, because everyone hates her, and they'd rather intro her on a tide of goodwill after Rayna's album hits than jeopardize Rayna's album by association. This is harsh, but actually not the worst thought in the world -- but the problem is that Juliette supposedly has all this heat around her after that song, and it seems dumb not to release it and capitalize. Someone needs to point out that there may be a way to spin this that will work, and/or let Juliette do the digital download through her Web site or something, without a label attached/with an anonymous label (can you even do that?) so that she stays in the conversation but not in a way that's directly tied to H65 yet. Basically, H65's points aren't BAD, but the way they sort of blinked and hemmed and hawed about everything ought to be fairly alarming to Juliette because it came off like they hadn't thought about her that much and that she was already a liability, when in fact YOU NEED ARTISTS, RAYNA.

## Chillville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17-5.xml)

Things with these two are a little off, which Deacon attributes to being on the road so much, so he tells Megan he'll take some time to be home. That's great, except that when Luke Wheeler finds out Deacon is doing a van tour and staying in crappy motels, his response is, "That is crazy, you are too good for that. Come open up for me." (Luke Wheeler is, I have to say, the nicest. Which is good, but also, where art thou, LAYERS?) Deacon is thrilled and Megan knows he has to take it, and is supportive.

## Lingerieville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17-6.xml)

Layla has no moves. She read that saucy lingerie might spice up their sex life, so instead of buying it and putting it on, she chucks the bag at Will and basically says, "I don't know, someone said this would help, whatever." It goes ON YOUR BODY, child. Maybe Judith's Jungle: Playthings For Grownups doesn't actually SELL lingerie and it's really a bag full of rompers and lacy overalls, in which case, she was right to leave it in there.

## Brentville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17-7.xml)

Will hides the bag when Cute Brent shows up... and he's Layla's new manager. He seems to know that Juliette is dropping both Will AND Layla from her soon-to-be-resuscitated-in-the-Northwest tour, for Anonymous Reasons (when Will goes to ask her, she can't tell him because of confidentiality, and he's hurt and she's clearly bummed about it), and he's booking Layla club gigs to make her seem cooler. It will be an uphill climb, kid. Her lingerie delivery system lacked a certain finesse.

## Guitarville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17.11.jpg)

Layla is doing a Juliette Barnes move, with the black shirt and sheers on-stage; she also looks totally awkward holding a guitar. But I guess it works. Brent decides she and Will should do their own down-home style tour, but Will says Oliver Hudson wants him to go on the road with Luke Wheeler and he'd probably be better off doing that. Layla is like, "Hey, maybe he'll take me, too," as if this multi-million dollar tour is like a minivan and you can just pile in bodies until the doors stop closing. Will points out thatOliver got mad when he tried to help her last time; Layla this extremely personally and points out that if they're not having sex and he wants to tour instead of being with her, does he even want to date? He says nothing and she runs away in a snit. I hope she remembers where they parked.

## Albumville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17-9.xml)

Deacon's album is done, and Maddie is thrilled. He tries to back up Teddy's warnings about school and stuff, and that's great, but what I'm concerned about is that he called the album "Alive at the Bluebird." And i know he's not referring to the events from the end of last season, BUT, the fact remains that he WAS just in a huge car accident in which it was SOMEONE ELSE'S LIFE that was at stake for most of it; are you not being a bit insensitive, with your glib puns? Maybe I'm overreacting. But your child's mother DID almost die.

## YouTubeville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17-22.xml)

Maddie has been watching people's YouTube videos of themselves, so she makes one of her own and calls herself Maddie Claybourne on it. This is a very quick way to get one's Macbook confiscated.

## Ratville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17.8.jpg)

It cannot be overstated how bad Scarlett's hair is right now. At least it makes character sense this time, though. Rayna should be mildly concerned that she speaks in a monotone and has no life in her eyes, but Rayna can't see past her own sweater, which looks like Coachella at night.

## East Ratville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17.12.jpg)

So, Scarlett and her head-funk and unflattering shirt stumble on over to Avery's, to ask if he'll produce her album. She feels like she can't trust a stranger after what happened with Liam (whatever; Rayna should be seeing this and saying, "You are way, way too breakable for this industry right now"), and she sold Rayna on Avery's talents. Avery wonders if it'll be awkward with his romantic situation as it is, and Scarlett says she has no interest in awkward, but I think she means she's promising not to MAKE it awkward, because the offer is still on the table. RUN, Avery. Scarlett's middle name is awkward.

## Partyville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17.13.jpg)

Rayna's big single launch party is that night, and she turns up with Luke in what APPEAR to be credible shoes, but a terrible dress. First of all that's super daytime, and second, it makes her chest look like it's pendulously saggy, which it is NOT. Rayna needs a stylist. Even her usual trick of tight leather pants and a blouse would have been better, because at least it's edgy and sexy, which I think she still needs to try and be. She doesn't need to look rubberized, a la Faith Hill on Sunday Night Football's opening credits, but she's still GOT IT and she should flaunt it better.

## Strangeville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17-15.xml)

Juliette ALSO chose poorly. Apologies for the bad grab that's hideously brightened, but I wanted to make sure you could see this: For the purposes of schmoozing and trying to smile her way back into Nashville's good graces, Juliette chose... that. Cleav, see-through lace, black, short. It looks exactly like the rebel they think she is, which I thought was the OPPOSITE of the point. I ALMOST would've welcomed Avery being all, "So is THAT what you're wearing?" Except they were too busy fighting, because she sees him wanting to do Scarlett's album as a slap in the face, given that he freaked out when Edgehill offered him/Juliette an imprint and $250k for him to produce. She has a point, for sure, but he also has a point: Scarlett is a friend in trouble and he's doing her a favor, and -- he doesn't say this, but it holds -- Juliette's Edgehill deal was not contingent on him saying yes to that, and in fact she signed a version that had removed all that. So. If this ends up throwing a legit wrench in Juliette/Avery, I will be mad, because Avery/Scarlett NEVER worked and she and Avery are AWESOME together. But what I really think is that this is how Avery is going to realize Scarlett is jacked up on the skeeze.

## Pillville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17.14.jpg)

It's nice to see that Scarlett can still use styling tools. Now she looks like someone who smoked some killer weed and is twirling in circles in a giant field, possibly while discussing Massengill. She is actually popping another pill, because she needs powdered courage. This bottle of Liam's pills must have been Double Gulp size.

## Subtleville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17.16.jpg)

Teddy spends the episode trying to get Megan to talk, and she rejects him completely. Then at Rayna's party they stand RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE LOGO WALL and have a close, whispered conversation that MIRACULOUSLY no one notices, in which Teddy makes his play, telling Megan that he understands her and that musicians never put their ladies first, etc., which makes it all the sadder when Deacon tells Megan later that he has to go on the road with Luke. Although weirdly, Teddy and Megan have better chemistry. However, Megan should also be wondering why Teddy is so ready to hop in the sack with her when his wife has only been dead for like three hours.

## Whaaaaaaville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17-17.xml)

These are the faces of confused people. And they're confused because Juliette, sick and tired of hearing that Rayna is gushing to everyone about all her OTHER artists (read: Scarlett, and some dude she MIGHT sign, MAYBE, if she can ever GET HER ACT TOGETHER), decides to take the microphone and introduce Rayna's single by saying that she's so THRILLED that Rayna has signed her to Highway 65.

Side note: Luke and Tandy had been hitting it of and LAUGHING and whatnot, and please God can that just be pleasantness and not some dumbass beginning of an affair, not least because I kind of liked the old insinuation that maybe Bucky and Tandy were getting it on.

ANYWAY: Rayna is ready to clobber Juliette with Luke's hat, especially after the buzz is that people love Rayna's new single but hate Juliette on the label. Why is Nashville being so snobby? I don't think of that city's reputation as being hoity-toity about itself, and people, and their mistakes.

## Welpville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17-18.xml)

I actually hate the word "welp" and this is the first (and second, and maybe last) time I've ever typed it, although it's not as irritating to me in print as when people actually SAY it. But it kind of fits. Juliette gives this priceless expression while Rayna lectures her in a closet about how her inability to be patient has now jeopardized everything, and Juliette has to just stand there and take it because she knows Rayna is right and feels kind of stupid about it, and the end result is something semi-apologetic, semi-defensive, semi-chastised, and semi-embarrassed. And ENTIRELY funny. It's actually the stuff like this where you really see how great Hayden Panettiere is on this show. It's not just the dramatics; it's the fact that this scene demanded kind of a complicated reaction and she TOTALLY nailed it without even having that many words.

## Stressville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17-19.xml)

Another thing that happened: Brent overheard Will signing an autograph from someone in his hometown, and he brings up memories of an old male bandmate, etc., and Brent realizes that he is not Will's one and only. He tells Will that rumors are flying at Edgehill that Will Doth Protesteth Too Much when it came to Brent, and that although Brent would never betray him, he'd better be sure nothing from his past will come out to play. Will talks it over with Gunnar a little, and Gunnar is not particularly useful but at least is nice, and Chris Carmack is so good at this part that my reaction was, "Oh, thank God Will has someone to talk to, because otherwise I think he'd fall apart," and then I remember he's not real. You are real to me, Will Lexington. Break off another piece of Brent soon, okay?

## Opryville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17.23.jpg)

Rayna's big plan to fix Juliette's damage -- she finally confesses to J that she mortgaged her entire life on this label, and J is appropriately sorry she screwed up, although it'd be nice if Rayna apologized for being so blase with her -- is to have her perform a duet with Rayna at the Opry. This is the second week in a row Rayna has worn those horrible high-waist boot-cut pants, which she's paired here with peep-toe heels, and the whole effect is SO frumpy and 2004 that I think somewhere Faith Hill actually just blacked out.

## Shoeville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17.24.jpg)

Juliette is also on a not-great outfit, but at least her gold booties are good.

## Blouseville

![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17-27.xml)

However, Rayna's blouse is AMAZING and I would mortgage my own face for one. Well, not really. But possibly only because my face would not fetch enough.

## Ringville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17.28.jpg)

And obviously that ring is hideous and she should send it to me to get it as FAR away from herself as possible.

## COME ONville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17.25.jpg)

Avery can't look Scarlett in the eyes, or else her serpentine locks will turn him to stone, but he DOES look moved when Medusa begs him to produce her album by saying she needs him. So it seems he's going to say yes whether Juliette blesses it or not, which is probably very healthy of him. Do not get sucked into Medusa's drug den of self-pity, though, Avery, not even when you intervene and she struggles to get clean and she gives you the Needy Eyes.

## Proposalville

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17.26.jpg)

And poor Will, dear sweet Will, decides that the only way to silence the rumors and lock away his old trysts IS TO GET MARRIED. Someone needs to tell him that people can, and will, STILL speculate about your sexuality even when you are married, and that in fact it will only make racy rumors and saucy accusations MORE interesting to the press. EVER HEARD OF JOHN TRAVOLTA, WILL? RIGHT. In fairness, as he hugs a delighted Layla after he proposes, he looks upset and disgusted with himself, and I think we're really just on a countdown until she discovers him with Brent and takes it public for personal gain, right?

[Fug the Show: Nashville recap, season 2, episode 17I accidentally typed "Fug the Snow" at first, which I imagine is how a lot of people feel right now. This episode has some good blouses, bad pants, and a return to the nadir of Scarlett's hair, which I am hoping she will cut off and sell for money to send to her child who's being raised by two humble innkeepers drugs.![](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/content/files/www-gofugyourself-com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/nashvilles2ep17-2.xml)](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/fug-the-show-nashville-recap-season-2-episode-17-03-2014/)
