Three Liars and one Roma Maffia

While Emily blithely has a really awesome purse that I want in my house right now, Roma Maffia tells them that they found the dirty high-heeled shoe in the rubble at Emily's house and they know it didn't belong there. Roma is stuck in sensible shoes this week, which may explain why all the detecting she's doing is pretty boring. There's no sass.

The Liars

Recap walk: Everyone wants to know where CeCe Drake is, and why she -- or whoever -- was living under the De Laurentis basement, so Hanna has to go shopping with Dead Alison's mother to allow the others to snoop in the crawl space.

Clothes-wise, Hanna has returned to a more cheerful color palette, Emily appears to be wearing a tank top about.. I don't even KNOW. Nuclear reactors. And Aria is a Siegfried & Roy superfan. And hey, they're older than she is, so maybe she will date one of them.

Stalker

This guy is hovering around Hanna, and it freaks her out - especially after she discovers an envelope in her locker containing a fat wad of cash and a note that suggests it will help her mother. Cute stalkers who give you money are not the worst kind of stalkers.

Aria

Turns out Aria's outfit was separates -- a shirt and a jacket., which in my head are all from a store that has a Z at the end. I also enjoy that it's styled with a fang necklace that echoes its teeth. I don't usually like to wear that much dental work.

Spencer and Toby

These two are fighting about Toby getting hooked on A's information about his mother. A also puts a CD in Toby's truck of his mother singing that "Anytime" song from the sheet music, and Toby's going nuts and his tear ducts are on red alert.

Aria and Emily

They find a button in the crawl space, but worse, they hear someone come home -- but it's not anyone who LIVES there. So while peeking up into the house through A's peepholes, Aria almost gets her face carved up when someone thrusts something pointy through them. FINALLY something interesting NEARLY happens to Aria.

Aria

Aria changed her clothes for that excursion. She is the ONLY one who has changed clothes, in fact, since school ended this day. GOD FORBID she tarnish the tiger blazer. But the endearing thing is, she FULLY changed -- she didn't just throw on a grubby t-shirt. She put on fresh everything. And actually she looks a lot cuter.

Aria

The Borings are going to the school dance together, and it's country-themed, so Jake buys Aria some boots. He has guessed her shoe size. He is right. As he slips the pastel boots onto her feet, she gazes at him like she has just hit the Man Jackpot.

Emily

Emily has memories of Alison while in her room. I don't believe for a SECOND that Alison De Laurentis ever watched any foreign films at all. She DID, though, apparently sometimes break up with people on friends' behalves if it was Just Too Hard for them. Why is that not the plot of a rom-com yet? IS it?

CeCe Drake

CeCe has an evidence wall you guys! That is EVIDENCE WALL No. 3! I hope she has a candy striper uniform, too, or else my faith in this show will waver. Anyway, CeCe is bitching to someone she is waiting for, while we look around and see that she's got news clippings and maps and photographs strewn everywhere...

Red Coat

... and we pan over and there is a red coat. My theory is that it's not THE red coat, but instead a red coat herring; in fact, I am not sure if it COULD be the same because I can't tell if there's a hood on it. Anyway. The show wants us to think CeCe is Red Coat. Maybe she is also the father of Ezra's ex-son and killed Toby's mother and six cops and Ian and whoever else.

Lord

So, the dance. It makes me hurt. Caleb has the innate awesomeness to strut into this barn like he has worn those clothes all his life, and Hanna looks like an extra from a really trashy diner on the outskirts of a Friday Night Lights episode.

Hanna and the guy

Stalker is there, so he dances with Hanna, and as they walk around the floor way too fast and he practically shoves her into a pillar, he tells her that basically blah blah blah car repair shop yada yada he saw Sydney Andrews run away from the murder site BEFORE he heard gunshots, and then watched another girl running away from there. He's paying her to hire new legal help instead of telling the cops because of Father Reasons, and she's pretty mad about that. Understandably.

The Clampetts

Of course Spencer is in overalls. OF COURSE. Also, I love that Emily gets to be sexy in short-shorts at a cowboy dance, but not ever in her regular life.

Spencer and Toby

And of COURSE Spencer's shirt is CROPPED under there. Why would it be anything else. Toby doesn't notice, though, because he's too angry that Spencer told his friends about his Maybe Murdered Mother. He thinks this means the flow of intel from A will stop, but he gets a picture of Dementia Psychiatrist's car parked somewhere and decides to go break into it. Spencer is not thrilled and thinks A is trying to set up Toby, so she sends Caleb after him, because Caleb is the best. A cop car pulls up right as Toby is about to crack into the car and they flee without being caught because the Rosewood PD is a bunch of lifeless goons.

Aria

Aria looks quite cute in this costumey thing, actually, and how LUCKY that her boring boyfriend found her boots that perfectly match her outfit. She gets up to a boot-scootin' boogie with Jake, and right as The Borings are having a grand old time, Jake notices Ezra doing the world's least subtle mopey pining. Ezra is really going to have to work on that if he insists on teaching at Aria's school. Jake goes over to him and tells him that Aria was in Egypt's land, LET MY ARIA GO. (I hate that I have to specify, JUST IN CASE, that this is a Ferris Bueller reference. For the young 'uns. Of whom I am not one.)

Aria

And here is the belt: on the ankle of her boot. Pink belt, blue boot, WTF. I am pretty sure the problems with those boots, or this outfit, cannot be solved simply by cinching it and certainly not THERE.

Spencer and Emily

These two are trying to steal a car to... do something (find Hanna? Find Toby? Find the Holy Grail? It doesn't even matter), and they're terrorized while inside. Emily sees the hay in the flatbed moving, so they get out and bash it with a shovel, and it turns out someone was just slipping a red coat in there before escaping. It LOOKS like CeCe's red coat? It could also be Red Coat's red coat, and those two things could be the same. I feel for anyone in this town who just happens to like red coats. I have a red coat. Am I Red Coat?

Emily and Paige

The OTHER Borings are having a bittersweet Last Dance Ever together, which affords us an amazing look at Paige's pants. LOOK AT ALL THE TASSELS ON THERE. Is there a marching band consignment shop in Rosewood, too? If so, I bet Alison De Laurentis shopped there before she died and Left Clues, because she did a TON of that everywhere else.

Aria

So, Ezra hasn't been able to hide his depression, and Emily tells Aria to go talk to him. After the dance, Aria puts on a twinset to go lend an ear, because Serious Paternity Drama requires Serious Clothes.

CeCe

CeCe, notably without a coat of any color and instead wearing a hoodie, is listening at the door. If she were A, wouldn't she already know what they're talking about?

A

And sure enough, A has a bunch of voodoo dolls in the image of Emily, Spencer, Aria, and Hanna, and a fifth girl in a hoodie. At first I thought poor Mona was getting the short end of the felt wardrobe stick, but then I realized after the last slide that it MIGHT be intended to be CeCe, and that she IS a red-coat herring. Anyway, A stabs the hell out of one of these people with a knitting needle, because if there's anything we've learned about A it's that there are untreated rage issues.

Fug the Show: Pretty Little Liars, episode 4-11
Aria managed to put a belt in a place I have never seen one before.
