# Fug the Show: Pretty Little Liars, episodes 2-21 and 2-22

## Hanna

Let's start with Hanna, who herself has a pretty good parade of outerwear. I love this blazer on her. For a girl whose family is supposed to be broke and who allegedly quit shoplifting, she does okay.

Apologies to Laura Leighton for accidentally blowing out her face with my flash. It's not personal. I was just trying to get a picture of Hanna's pants, and it was REALLY HARD. I suspect the director did not like them, either. They look soiled. Relentlessly soiled. Relentlessly soiled from sometime in 1994.

And then Spencer: She's wearing what looks like a perfectly normal polka-dotted blouse. Except:

It has PIT HOLES. It's got bra windows. I guess is what happens when -- THREE WEEK OLD SPOILER DON'T YELL AT ME -- you find out your frenemy's brother is YOUR brother and your sister once unknowingly made out with him: You need as much ventilation on your armpits as possible.

## Aria

This coat is drool-worthy, though. But would Aria really wear a giant A pendant? I know it's her initial, but it's also the signature of the person who's spent forty episodes torturing her and her friends; at that point I feel like she'd look sadly at this and then sell it on eBay.

## Spencer

Great blouse, but we need to talk about the fact that Spencer has a crystal lyre in her bedroom. I like to think it's because it symbolizes the Greek chorus she hears in her head at all times, but it'd be even BETTER if she picked it up and started roaming around town singing like a minstrel to everybody ELSE about THEIR problems. The songs she would write to Aria about her pants would be epic.

Dearest, cherished Aria, why so shifty? Does it have anything to do with the fact that you're kind of wearing a dog collar? Or is it about the leopard print on your knee?

In fact, it may be about the leopard print on your knee, because the leopard is only on your knee. As in, singular. As in, it's only on ONE of your knees. Yes, Aria is wearing pants with different legs. Repeat: ARIA IS WEARING PANTS WITH DIFFERENT LEGS. I really, really wish they had shown her making those, perhaps with Spencer playing the lyre behind her and singing a ditty about the wrath of the sewing gods and Oedipal something-something and then hurling it at Aria's heads and saying, "PANTS DON'T HAVE DIFFERENT LEGS."

This was the best shot the director got of Aria standing in these pants, which says to me that, again, the directors on this show sometimes are too frightened by the clothes to know that we nee to SEE them. WE NEED TO SEE THESE PANTS. They have to be seen to be decried.

And what's more, THEY ARE CAPRI PANTS. Right now even Whitesnake is looking at her and thinking, "That girl is way too insane for the hood of OUR car."

I do enjoy Aria's massive Mah Jongg rings, though. This show is really into people wearing several gigantic rings on the same hand, possibly on adjacent fingers. I don't know how they text like that.

Speaking of Whitesnake, was it Video Vixen day at Rosewood High? And why is Aria wearing black knee socks with those shoes? She looks like a marionette somebody forgot to finish painting.

At least there are spikes on her shoulders, though. Maybe that's why Ezra is considering moving to New Orleans. He can't put his head on her shoulder for comfort, because when he does, he gets three new ear piercings.

[Fug the Show: Pretty Little Liars, episodes 2-21 and 2-22I have to confess: The pants Aria wears in episode 22 are the entire reason I started fugcapping this show on GFY. Because I knew they were coming, and I knew we would all have to talk about them, and I figured if THAT was where things were heading then there might be some pretty hilarious mile markers along the way (which proved correct -- ladder pants and rubber ducky shoes among them). I'm not leading with them in the interests of chronology, but you can skip to slide 10 if you aren't also curious about her hot jacket and Spencer's ventilated blouse and Sydney Andrews's weird-ass disease-backed dress. But WHY aren't you curious? That is the question.
