It's very convenient that Emily has just remembered that her mother drowned her to death and her father had to give her CPR to save her JUST AS her mother swings back into town. It's also AMAZING that she can remember things that happened WHILE SHE WAS TECHNICALLY DEAD. If you can do that, give up on the revenge thing and just take up full-on magic.

Meanwhile CRAZY CRAZYJennifer Jason Leigh has popped over to Grayson Manor to act seriously batshit nutty and scare the hell out of Victoria, who -- among other things -- was pretty sure she was dead.

So obviously, Victoria invites JJL -- who, I have to say, is really chewing the scenery like a mentally unhinged wackjob with an insatiable hunger for drywall in a seriously satisfying way -- to live with her! Because that is a GREAT IDEA. Although, as she later points out to Conrad, it is actually a pretty good way to spy on/keep an eye on her. IF SHE DOESN'T KILL YOU, VICTORIA. If you die, who gets that fabulous pink sheath?

This is one of the ways you know JJL is still crazy, regardless of what she says. She thinks she's on *The Bachelorette* and Chris Harrison has never even BEEN to the Hamptons.

I am barely interested in the maintenance of my own home, why would anyone think we really really care about the apparently myriad serious issues over at Jack's boring bar? May I remind you, Jack's Boring Bar has been in a coma for FIVE WEEKS, while Jack's Baby Mama was (spoiler) not even in a coma for ONE.

I am SINCERELY WORRIED that Nolan is getting boring on us. A) his hair looks essentially normal. B) his outfit is also essentially normal. NO ONE who watches this show wants Nolan to be normal. Nolan is interesting because he is a weirdo who dresses like Brooks Brothers threw up on him.

Anyway, Nolan is stoked to be "one of those uncles that's not really related" to new baby Carl. Are people really naming their babies Carl in 2012? Or is Baby Carl named after Jack's Dead Dad? Regardless, the baby playing Carl is VERY CUTE. Just take my word for it because apparently I forgot to take a picture of him.

Emily had a lot of flashbacks in this episode, which I enjoy because James Tupper is hot. He's also a good Dad, because he decided that he can't have his daughter being raised by a woman who keeps trying to kill her, and he and JJL decide that she will leave town forever and David will just tell Emily (well, Amanda, technically) that JJL is dead. I...have no idea how or when JJL then ended up in the mental hospital? And I kind of don't know why Victoria thought she was dead? Let me see if I can figure this out:

Is it that JJL was in the mental institution before this drowning incident and THEN she left town/"died"? Because if that is the case, why did Grayson Global buy up the Mental Institution to allegedly cover up JJL's incarceration? In fact, JJL DOES seem dangerously unhinged and like she probably NEEDED to be in a mental institutional (albeit probably not in the Crazy Creepy Mean one that she was plonked into). I need a timeline of this show. I have no idea what is truly happening at any given moment and not in a good way.

This plot is moving slower than a tortoise hopped up on Benadryl. Sell the damn bar to Evil McBlueEyes and his Preppy Teen Cohort and get A MOVE ON.

Also: can someone explain to me why Ashley is getting to attend sensitive meetings at Grayson Global and what her actual job is? I thought she was "family spokesperson" but half the time she acts like Daniel's assistant? Also, if you pass out during any scene involving Padma -- as I do -- here is all you need to know: she discovered that due to BLAH BLAH BLAH, Grayson Global basically owns a huge portion of NolCorp. We can't tell if she's evil or what, yet. The really sad part is that this plot is so boring that no one believes me when I tell them that Dilshad Vadsaria was sincerely awesome on *Greek* and has the potential to be great on a nighttime soap.

At least Ashley's dress is pretty. She is sort of a useless character and I can not figure out if we're supposed to be rooting for her and Daniel as a couple or not (...no? I can't see that they earned us rooting for them, if nothing else), but she is possibly the best dressed person on this entire show, and for that I thank her.

Hey, look who's back to stir the pot! I don't know if I would return to a town where someone destroyed my manuscripts and burned down my house but let's not pretend that anyone on this show really acts the way real people do. And I HAVE missed his bow-ties.

Judging from this very subtle side-eye, Emily has NOT. She also is weirded out by the fact that he's back to eyeball her mother, not the least because he is the only person in town who might be able to figure out the scheme she's running.

Come on. Who HASN'T driven home their presumed dead Mom who tried to kill them a couple of times whilst living under an assumed identity? It's a timeless story to which we can all relate. And who hasn't worried that their clinically insane mother who was married (?) to a lunatic who worked for a secret shadow organization might kill their godson?

I will say, I think the fact that Emily is clearly worried about the fact that she's unleashed a possibly really unstable person with a history of kind of uncontrolled murderous urges onto a new family with a tiny baby does make HER seem like less of a sociopath, which is exactly what this show needed to do.

While I am handing out kudos, I have to congratulate Josh Bowman's ability to control his British accent. They let him use it in this scene -- he's sort of making fun of Aidan/Ashley -- and he really neatly segued in and out of it. I am one of those people who has a tendency to inadvertently start to imitate people's accents when I am talking to them, so I find his vocal control to be really impressive (if not his acting, all the time). I mean, compare him to someone like Phoebe Tonkin, whose accent basically veers out of control in every scene she's ever been assigned.

ANYWAY. I can never really keep the Grayson Global stuff straight. But basically, he tells Aidan to take Takeda's money and run because GG is the worst, but Aidan talks him into blah blah money yada yada something blah blah overthrow Conrad.

Emily: "Leave me alone. I have huge problems. My mom's a murderer and my bow-tied nemesis just swanned back into town and I miss Nolan." (Wait, that last part was just me.)

I just included this picture because we need to talk about how INSANE it is that Emily keeps ALL of her revenge-y items (weapons, stolen evidence, lists of revengery, fake and real diaries) in this desk IN THE LIVING ROOM that literally ANYONE could open any time they go looking for, say, a stamp or a Post-it or a pen. AT LEAST PUT ALL THAT IN A BOX IN THE BACK OF YOUR CLOSET LIKE A NORMAL PERSON.

This is absurd. And -- although this is not at all the fault of the show -- watching people almost get swept away by the tides is a little uncomfortable at the moment. Also: who goes to this extreme for boring Padma? Also also: Emily calls Nolan and tells her that Padma is stirring the David Clarke/NolCorp/Grayson Global pot and he needs to Watch Out For Her.

Emily VanCamp's boobs seem bigger this season -- none of us have forgotten The Baby Shower Cleavage, I am sure -- and they are not well wrangled in this dress. I don't know that I necessarily think she had them done (if she did, it seems tastefully done and it's really none of my beeswax), but for some reason they're all over the place this season.

Okay, so JJL comes over to have a heart to heart with Amanda and Emily listens in, obviously, and JJL basically very sweetly explains that she never stopped loving her, etc etc etc and asks for forgiveness and Amanda gives it to her and Emily cries and cries and basically this scene was very well-acted and exactly what was needed this season because you can only take so many scenes of people screaming that they hate each other. It was a nice play to VanCamp's strengths as an actress.

A) Since when does Victoria wear a maxi-dress?

B) Conrad wisely points out that if they get remarried, they can't be required to testify against each other in court -- you know, in case ONE OF THEM MURDERS SOMEONE LIKE MAYBE ONE OF THEIR HOUSEGUESTS -- and I swear to God, the fact that he thought of that is the most romantic thing Victoria ever heard.
