## The Good Toque

Welcome back, Jeffrey Dean Morgan. I enjoy his souvenir toque, and so does he; further, he brings Alicia oven mitts, which is a nod to the night she made him frozen food. Alicia. When a man like this shows up at your door in a novelty ski cap, and brings you a gift clearly from an airport shop that also somehow manages to be thoughtful and meaningful to your shared history, you don't need to wait for your catharsis to kiss him. MAKE HIS TONGUE YOUR CATHARSIS. RIGHT NOW.

## The Good Sulk

Alicia, though, is still in her angry phase. I mean, seriously, is it any wonder I didn't want to write about the interim episodes? It's amazing how off-putting Alicia is when she's enraged all the time. Sometimes it can be satisfying when a character is pissy, but with Alicia it just comes off as snobbish and petulant and self-indulgent. It also takes either nads, or a willful lack of awareness, to write a string of episodes in which your leading lady -- whose popularity is on the wane, given that the public at large seems to think she drove at least one adored character off the show -- is a sour-faced dark cloud of OH JUST DEAL WITH IT. Like, if people are souring on Margulies, it's going to make it a lot easier to sour on Alicia too, when she behaves annoyingly.

## The Good Hamilton

I need to note that the case of the week actor is Daniel J. Watts, whom we saw in "Hamilton" -- he understudied for the guy who usually plays Samuel Seabury, aka I Present Free Thoughts On The Proceedings of the Continental Congress. Sadly, he does not here stand up and point at Alicia and scream, "FOR SHAME. FOR SHAAAAAAAAAAME."

He is at the crux of a complicated malpractice case against Alicia that she and Lucca lose, which involves her time in bond court and how she sometimes offered unsolicited advice that led people to change to her as their lawyer. I think? It was boring. It's also just a MacGuffin so that Alicia can get back with her old firm BUT I'm getting ahead of myself.

## The Good Laundry Room

Alicia then has a meltdown. Lucca finally calls her out on being General Unpleasantness of the Sourpuss Army of the Great State of Ill-Annoyed. And Alicia talks until her brains leak out her ear, all about how she was in LOVE and then he DIED and she is sick of her STUPID AWFUL APARTMENT WHAT IS EVEN THE POINT ANYMORE. I would like to point out that her stupid awful apartment is nicer than my house, and she has an actual laundry room, WITH nice machines, rather than a cupboard that won't fit anything but really cheap small ones. I have no sympathy for your inability to take agency over your own life, Alicia, when you are doing LAUNDRY in PARADISE.

## The Good Tantrum

And THEN, Alicia starts screaming about how she doesn't get the POINT of it all, including the idea that she gave over her life to raise children "that I'm not even sure I LIKE." I seriously don't know why she hates her children so much. I THINK they were getting at the idea that if she'd just chosen Will at Georgetown maybe everything would be perfect, and they are the human embodiments of her NOT making that choice. But it's also a hateful thing to say, ESPECIALLY when Grace got her a bunch of clients -- which Alicia then lost all on her own -- and then saved her ass with the HOA. I know people say horrible things when they are depressed, but this one came from a weird place of truth that has actual precedent in this show (I mean, seriously, she totally DOES hate Zach, for real, I think) and it's not a good look.

Then she implies she wants to End It All and/or bury herself under the covers and not move. I think this catharsis was certainly due her, and I think she has been very ineffectual in her own life -- WHY are you still married to Peter?!? -- in a way where it's understandable she is very angry at herself. But the show might have taken too unpleasant a road here for me to find this very satisfying.

## The Good Hug

Lucca, though, hugs her. And says she's a 30-year old woman who doesn't like many people and has no friends, but she likes Alicia, and chooses Alicia. She tells Alicia that she can choose Lucca, too, and basically to revel in the positive choices she can make that DO change things.

It's nice, but seriously, I do not believe of Lucca that she hates the world and has no friends. She just charmed the pants off Matthew Lillard. Cary had a twinkle for her for a hot second, and she took him to a rave. Listen: When you don't like most of humanity, a rave HAS TO be the last place you go, given that it's TEEMING with humanity. And not the un-annoying variety, either. Also, do people who have no friends go to raves? Or underground clubs or whatever that thing even was? I don't know. I think they came into this character not having any backstory for her and they're just making it up as they go, because Cush Jumbo is so great that her charisma carries them.

## The Good Kiss

HOWEVER THERE IS KISSING NOW. Lucca pushes the reset button on Alicia's mindset, and suddenly her guts AND her libido are also back. She lets Jeffrey Dean Morgan go and then turns around and follows him into the elevator and PLANTS ONE ON HIM, because nothing turns on Alicia Florrick like an elevator. Aerosmith is her porn. Seriously: She kissed Will in an elevator, and although it was in a parking garage where she first kissed Johnny Elfman, she got him the second time in front of this same elevator. Machinery, then, is her turn-on.

## The Good Diane

I just wanted you to know that although I COMPLETELY tuned out during her storyline, Diane is still a fox.

## The Good Cast Addition

I am not sure about this outfit. But Cush Jumbo is ALSO able to carry the clothes, in addition to a shoddily constructed character. She might be a miracle. I want a show with her and Diane and Eli.

## The Good Apology

Eli turns up ONE LAST TIME at Alicia's door to explain that, BY THE WAY, not getting that voicemail message didn't stop Alicia from hooking up with Will. And it also wouldn't have made a difference to his untimely death. He's heartfelt and upset, and I'm sad that he had to go begging, but I guess it was a pretty shitty thing to do to her. Eli could use a good grovel every now and then.

## The Good Forgiveness

This is Alicia's reaction. In Vampire Diaries terms, someone turned her humanity back on.

Also, I forgot to mention it earlier, but: This iteration of Wig is TERRIBLE. The length, the layers... it's just all wrong. It feels like a very dated cut. Someone in the comments likened it to Adam Sandler's Opera Man wig, and it's TRUE.

AND THEN SHE KISSES HIM AGAIN. I wanted a little more heat, but maybe Julianna Margulies is over doing really steamy scenes. I should just be happy they're achieving liplock. GO JEFFREY. GO WHERE MATTHEW GOODE DID NOT.

## The Good Partnership

And then, in the wake of losing their malpractice case -- sort of; basically, the judge sent it to trial, and the other lawyer is demanding 1.5 million and won't settle -- Alicia is given an offer: Return to LAL, as a junior partner this time, and they'll absorb that debt. She just laughs. And laughs. And laughs. I am also laughing, because WHAT IS THE POINT ANYMORE of having plots? This show has reshuffled the deck a comical number of times, and this is YET ANOTHER moment in which Alicia is being humbled and forced to start over again (a bit). I mean, it's even the SECOND TIME in this season that this has happened! Doesn't The Good Wife have ANY OTHER IDEAS PLEASE?

[Fug the Show: The Good Wife, season 7, episode 13So, I couldn't bring myself to write about episodes 11 and 12\. We were busy with awards season, and to be honest, they were a total slog. I wasn't going to do this one, either, until Fug Nation alerted me to Important Developments On The Mouth Front, so ... here we are. Let me sum up, hastily: In Episode 11, the first one back, Alicia spent the ENTIRE TIME bitter and ragey and full of hateface at the entire world -- all because Eli deleted a voicemail ages ago that ultimately still didn't stop her from hooking up with Will Gardner. Peter "Martin O'Malley" Florrick loses badly in Iowa, so his campaign ends, Margo Martindale leaves, and Eli takes back his old job because Peter is still governor. And it does that thing this show LOVES wherein they pick a particular song and have it recur throughout. In this case, it's a Song of Cardiac Bitterness that Alicia is listening to through her headphones. This show is so in love with its quirky opens and closes. The next episode is Alicia being horrible to Eli's awesome daughter Marissa as she tries to broker peace, and Alicia blah blah blah crabby craby, until Cary suggests she and Lucca come back to Lockhart, Agos, & Lee (though Lucca points out she was never there in the first place), and blah blah blah angryface, nothing happens. Oh, Lucca does hook up with their client Matthew Lillard, because she likes to have short and hot and ultimately meaningless flings with musicians.AND, Grace solves a squabble between Alicia in 903 and the woman in 603 who is sick of getting all her visitors and packages by mistake. Grace handles the HOA board adeptly and they don't penalize or evict Alicia for running a home business (um, did Alicia THE LAWYER not look into this when she did it?!?!?!?), and Alicia is totally fine and Grace's reward is... getting fired, because someone FINALLY noticed that she was not paying any attention to school and doing terribly. Basically, Alicia is a terrible lawyer AND terrible parent right now.
