As Gucci was a sponsor of this event, we saw an awful lot of the label's clothes. Time will tell if that was a good idea. First up: Amber Heard, who, despite a strangely wispy updo, looks pretty smashing. The neck piece, which is like an explosion of fans -- like she's expected to have some REALLY intense fainting spells and will need them later -- is incredibly elaborate, but her features are so strong that I think she's carrying it off.
THUNK. This gown is the dour, joyless version of Amber's. The only thing that would save this cheap-looking transparent bag is if it's limp fans were motorized and on some kind of timer. That said, can we discuss how beautiful Ginnifer's eyes are? I wish she did them justice more often. I am not mad at her head (except: smile, please, etc.); just what's going on below it.

From a distance it's less crazy -- the skirt is at least striking, albeit perhaps not actually flattering. The top is still a tough sell for me, though. I just think maybe this is advanced-degree coursework and she's still trying to pass sophomore-level stuff.

Whereas this was finished with hot shoes and a very smart, simple LBD, letting the neckline and her head be the draw. I think this is deceptive -- looks easy to pull off, but is trickier than you think to wear without your face getting lost. Well done, Amber. Can you and Ginnifer swap outfits in the lav? Just to see? ... No? That's not very sporting.
