Carrie Underwood in Mikael D

Having said all of that, there is something I like about this dress. It's unusual, and it's cool the way that fabric is draped to make the patches of skin look almost like swatches of color in the fabric.

But there is also something a little cheesy about it, and I can't tell if that's my bias about Carrie Underwood -- historically, she has tended toward the fromage -- or if the fabric is simply a pretty idea that's not super sophisticated in its execution. Help me out here. Honestly, I think I am wishing we couldn't see any actual flowers, and that the whole thing just looked streaked, like the top.

Fine, but not altogether interesting. And yes, I'd have gone for a bolder lip.

And of course, she's continuing her trend of post-apocalyptic J.Lo stage wear. But if you're worried about people seeing up her skirt here...

Don't, because reader, IT'S PANTS.

Also, does it seem like an especially lazy design flaw that we can see a black band of... something... underneath the illusion netting? You can also see the tube top bra (hey, at least there IS one). I think I object less to the tube top than the fact that the scroll work on her groin looks so pubic from this angle.

This isn't meant as an insult; it's an honest question. How is Carrie Underwood not cloaked in major designers all the time? She's arguably the most famous country singer in the genre right now -- at least in the ladies' division; Blake Shelton might give her a run for her money in general -- and if you want to get shallow about it, she's beautiful and has the kind of figure designers dream of dressing. I'm surprised she's not constantly in, say, Carolina Herrera or Naeem Khan or Jenny Packham, or even some of the overseas couturiers. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that she's providing an opportunity for smaller labels to get visibility, but I don't necessarily get the sense that's because she's Carrie Underwood: Fashion Philanthropist, so much as Carrie Underwood: It's What's Available.
