I love this gown on her, but I really hate the makeup. It's so angular and severe that I keep thinking someone grabbed her by the bun and yanked her face backward, like Vincent D'Onofrio in Men In Black when his alien character had trouble with the sagging mortal skin it stole.

So, I saw a clip of "On My Own" during the extended preview that aired during Top Chef the other night, and this was my very snap judgment based on about ten seconds: Samantha Barks has a beautiful voice, but I'm mildly concerned she went for Broadway in her performance, as opposed to raw, emotional naturalism a la Hathaway and (reportedly) the others. But regardless, until the end of time we will appreciate her because she kept Taylor Swift out of this part, which would have been a big old mess. Also: Samantha looks stellar here. So well done, Eponine. Take my love, for love is everlasting.

I am not a particular fan of Eddie's work -- I thought he was terrible and vacuous in My Week With Marilyn, perhaps, one might say, an empty chair at an empty table -- but his voice sounds like it's quite nice, and I like the suit, pocket square, and tie. There's an aura to him that says, "Whatever happened to the Oneders," but then again, who WOULDN'T want to participate in a revival of that band?

I went to the first stateside 30 Odd Foot of Grunts concert in Austin -- my friend bought tickets superquickly -- and all I can say about it is this: A girl was passed out in the bathroom at Stubbs, and everyone was making Gladiator jokes, and at one point my drunk ass was so excited about mocking his stage moves that I called attention to myself, and then promptly fell over on my ass. Please note that this was a long time ago, and everyone is an idiot at 21. My point is: Wow, that WAS a long time ago, and also, here is Russell Crowe.

I love Hugh Jackman and his wife. She seems like such a broad, and I mean that in the best, most bitchin' way. Like, she and Christine Baranski would be an absolute piss at a three-hour a liquid lunch, you know? And, Hugh Jackman looks divine as always. He's the guy in Hollywood nobody EVER seems to have a bad word to say about, in a completely honest way. This delights me. Bring him peace. Bring him joy. (That song makes me cry -- like most of these damn delicious songs -- and so I cannot wait for that part of the movie. I'm sorry, but I AM STOKED. 2-4-6-0-YEEEEEEAH.)
