## HRH Prince George Of Cambridge

![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/bf/b9/bfb99790-924d-4e41-a7e6-5e3c6e04fe57/content/images/static-gofugyourself-com/uploads/2013/10/185635324.jpg)

He already looks like SUCH a royal portrait to me -- something about his face evokes all those old Hans Holbein oils you see hanging in museums and palaces, wearing large hats with feathers in them and, of course, pantaloons.

The dress is apparently a replica of a gown made in 1851 for Queen Victoria's namesake daughter; the replica was first used for Edward and Sophie's child in 2008\. Yes, that's right. HAND-ME-DOWNS. My hand-me-downs look just like that.

## The Duchess

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/10/185635553.jpg)

Kate wore Alexander McQueen, as is her wont. It's cream, supposedly, although in some shots it looks almost lemony. I'm sure she coordinated with George's frock on purpose. It is not my favorite thing she's ever worn, and not my favorite color on her, but certainly she still looks pretty and polished and DEEPLY appropriate for the event. It's not like she can wear an evening gown. Also, I had my kids four years ago and I'm STILL not that polished. Sigh.

## The Duchess and the McQueen

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/10/185635548.jpg)

Suddenly the ruffle just makes me think it's a very thoughtfully styled, sewn-in burp cloth.

## The Duchess and the Prince

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/10/185638937.jpg)

There is a matching ruffle in the back, and her hair highlights are of course impeccable and perfect. So yeah, the outfit doesn't light me on fire -- but it also probably isn't supposed to; it's probably meant to play second fiddle to the prince, and it does, so mission accomplished. I mean that in a nice way.

## The parents and the Queen

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/10/185633710.jpg)

This is the proud parents presenting the baby to the Queen, who I imagine was thinking, "Yes, excellent, he is a baby. Let's get a move on so we can have cocktails." I like Kate's dress more now that I can see the ruffle continues down the front and isn't just a massive spare flapping lapel. But... yeah, still a burp cloth.

## William and George

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/10/185633686.jpg)

I think they look alike. His face reminds me of little William, and something in the eyes especially evokes him for me.

## The HRHs

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/10/185633684.jpg)

Three months old and already bored at fancy royal events. Love it.

## Prince Harry

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/10/185636102.jpg)

"Nothing to see here. Please don't ask me about Cressida. Please don't ask me about Cressida. But I am pretty sure I don't like scrunchies."

## James and Pippa Middleton

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/10/185636083.jpg)

James looks fine (I actually think he's better with the beard). Pippa looks like she's working REALLY REALLY HARD to get herself back in with England as a whole, and with the royals -- my personal, unsubstantiated theory is that she annoyed them so much with that gunplay incident in Paris that she was ordered to stand back after the wedding, which is why you don't hear any noises anymore about her working with Kate or being on Kate's staff. Anyway, her coat is by a British designer named Suzannah Crabb, and it's... fine. A bit stodgy on her, actually. The sleeves seem wonky and as if they're weighing down her shoulders.

## Pippa and James

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/10/185635971.jpg)

I think I'd rather it was not empire waisted -- if the coat's waist and horizontal ribbon detail hit her at her natural waist, she'd look a bit less lost in it. I make no comment on the shoes, though. They're exactly what she should be wearing -- one is not going with strappy sex-kitten heels at one's sister's royal child's christening -- and at least she tied them in with the clutch.

## Chazmilla

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/10/185639134.jpg)

He looks quite proud. For all the rancor in his relationship with Diana, I'm sure it was very bittersweet for him, too, to do all this knowing how much she would have loved it. Camilla looks nice, too, but do we feel like she needs to get away from wearing hats with pointy things on them? Lay down your defenses, Camilla. We come in peace.

## The Queeeeeeeeen

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/10/185635925.jpg)

"Rule Britannia" used to be my ringtone, and every time it went off, my coworker would yell, 'THE QUEEEEEEEEEEN," and now that's what I hear in my head every time I see QEII. She looks lovely in that color and is basically the bomb. Bonus: a better look at Camilla.

## The Duke of Edinburgh

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/10/185633670.jpg)

Prince Philip IN THE HOUSE.

## Carole Middleton

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/10/185636105.jpg)

She always looks very nice. I can't decide if I like the lace panels on her coat or find them distracting, but it all does coordinate, and I think if she were standing still and it weren't flapping around, it'd be more striking. STAND STILL THEN EVERYONE ALL DAY THANKS.

## Godparent #1: Hugh, Earl Grosvenor

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/10/185639147.jpg)

The Daily Mail's parsing of him was, "The landowner's son who likes to party." He's twenty-two and the son of the Duke of Westminster, whom the Mail says is one of England's richest people, and apparently has partied with Harry and has a family member who's married to the van Cutsem family -- a name you'll hear again in a minute. He looks quite cute, so watch out, Harry. The ladies may turn on you. (Don't worry, I'm sure they will never turn on you.)

## Godparent # 2: Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/10/185638960.jpg)

Jamie, a veteran and a family friend who once worked for the Queen Mum, has been William and Harry's private secretary -- or at least, he was until last month. This is is quite a parting gift. The Mail says " he has also run risk management training courses for journalists and travellers, schooling them in what to do if you are shot at and how to avoid being kidnapped." Well then.

## Godparent #3: William van Cutsem

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/10/185638961.jpg)

The van Cutsems sound like a massive family. Although I often mix them up with the von Straubenzees, who are the OTHER large family in their lives. Anyway, William is the youngest of the four sons of a rich Norfolk landowner, is George's lone Catholic godparent, and apparently married a girl whom William dated while he was split up from Kate. (DRAMA!) His niece is the little bridesmaid who covered her ears during the flyover at Will and Kate's wedding.

## Godparent #4: Zara (Phillips) Tindall

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/10/185638718.jpg)

Apparently, Zara's brother Peter wasn't invited, nor were Eugenie and Beatrice. BURN. She's the only royal godparent, and apparently is a favorite of the Queen's, and is horse-loving and regular and cool. I hope all those things are true. Her rugby-playing husband, also, [has the most MAGNIFICENTLY broken nose](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2472997/Prince-George-christening-meet-godparents.html?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io).

## Godparent #6: Julia Samuel

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/10/185636059.jpg)

Julia is a bereavement counselor -- that's an oversimplification I think, but I'm short on time here -- who was a close friend of Princess Diana's. Her dress is quite saucy for the occasion, no?

## Godparent #7: Emilia (d'Erlanger) Jardine-Paterson

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/10/185639144.jpg)

She's a school chum of Kate's, who is also an interior designer and is helping remodel Kensington Palace (and do up George's nursery). She's married to a Scottish land heir, and I love her clutch a whole lot. Hopefully she will love wee Georgie more.

## The Chapel Royal At St James's Palace

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/10/185475448.jpg)

From [the Monarchy's Web site](https://www.royal.gov.uk/TheRoyalResidences/TheChapelsRoyal/History.aspx?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io): "The term Chapel Royal did not originally refer to a building but an establishment. It is a body of priests and singers to serve the spiritual needs of the Sovereign. \[...\] During Tudor times the Chapel would still follow the Sovereign around the country to whichever Palace or great standing house was in favour at the time. \[...\] In Stuart times it came to rest largely at Greenwich, St James's, Whitehall and Hampton Court Palaces. \[...\] Since Whitehall Palace burned down in the late 17th century the choral headquarters of the Chapel Royal has been based at St James's Palace, where two consecrated buildings survive and remain in use by the Chapel Royal."

## The Chapel Royal At St James's Palace

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/10/185475451.jpg)

And more: " Mary Tudor's heart was buried beneath chancel step in 1558\. It was also here, in the Royal Closet of the Chapel Royal, that Elizabeth I said her prayers for the defence of the realm against the threat of the Spanish Armada in 1588, having chosen to remain at St James's Palace to receive messages of its progress by fire beacons from Cornwall. \[...\] Queen Victoria was married in the Chapel in 1840, and a contemporary unfolded 'Spooner' panorama of that wedding graces the vestibule to the Chapel." LEARNING!

## The Chapel Royal At St James's Palace

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/10/185475450.jpg)

More from the site: "The Tudor Chapel Royal at St. James's Palace was constructed by Henry VIII from 1531 and the ceiling decorated by Hans Holbein in honour of the king's short-lived fourth marriage to Anne of Cleves in 1540."

It's lovely, but almost strikingly simple compared to some. My favorite is St. George's at Windsor, but that might have seemed too on-the-nose with the name, and also, Charles and Camilla were married there -- whereas St. James is the place Diana's body lay before her funeral, so it's obviously the more poignant choice for William. I wonder how often he'd even been in here since.

## HRH Prince George Of Cambridge Is Christened At St James' Palace

![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2013/10/185639443.jpg)

I do love the guards.

[Fugs and Fabs: The Christening of HRH Prince GeorgeMost of you have seen these by now, but as far as we're concerned, if Fug Nation hasn't gotten together to talk about something, IT DIDN'T HAPPEN. As for George: He is CUTE. And adorably unimpressed by his surroundings, in that delightful newborn way. I want to pinch his cheeks and scream "MUFFIN," which is probably what I will do every time photos of him are released anywhere ever. But we've also got the pictures of the seven godparents (one wore RED LACE), some of the chapel, and a hint of Pippa for those of you who've felt deprived. \[Photos: Getty\]![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/bf/b9/bfb99790-924d-4e41-a7e6-5e3c6e04fe57/content/images/static-gofugyourself-com/uploads/2013/10/185635324.jpg)](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/fugs-and-fabs-the-christening-of-hrh-prince-george-10-2013/)
