Gao Yuanyuan

I am not sure how I feel about a paisley formal, but I LOVE how he's kind of lurking behind her. It just makes me laugh. Per Wiki, Gao is an actress who was a torch-bearer for the 2008 Olympics AND "in 2000, she starred in an advertisement for Qing Zui (fresh mouth) mint during CCTV's broadcast of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, and is thus known to viewers as "fresh mouth girl." She is all about the Olympics.

Freida Pinto

This feels a little dowdy on Freida. (Who, per HER Wikipedia, was ALSO in a gum ad.)

Lin Chi-ling

This feels very Kors-y -- I do wish she wouldn't hold her bag in front of her dress, though. Let us see the dress! Lin Chi-ling is also apparently a VERY SUCCESSFUL model, so you'd think she would know that. She also stars in a Japanese soap opera, the name of which translates to Moon Lovers. The title of its season finale translates (per Wiki, again) to "Good-bye, Rensuke Hazuki! Last message for three women! A ballistic ending for an ultimate love story! Heading for an ending with tears..." So, I suspected it ends sadly? I probably need to watch this, yes? You had me at "ballistic."

Carina Lau

This is pretty fab. And her Wikipedia is FULL OF DRAMA, claiming she was abducted by the triad in 1990! And that photos of her mid-abduction were leaked to the press in 2002! And the publisher of said photos got sent to jail! She was also a costumer on a movie called Forbidden City Cop, in which she also stars. It sounds intriguing. For example: "Ling Ling Fat (Stephen Chow) is, by heritage, a member of the Chinese Emperor's elite personal bodyguards. He belongs to the tribe of Baolong, which literally means "King Protecting". Instead of studying martial arts, like his fellow bodyguards, Ling Ling Fat makes unusual inventions, such as cannons fired from the mouth, helicopter blades, and magnets. He also practices gynaecology, and spends time with his loving wife (Carina Lau)." That guy has A LOT on his plate.

So she has a memoir to write, is what I am saying.

Hilary Swank

This is fine?

Angelababy

We saw this on Naomi Watts last year and I remain kind of unmoved. I LOVE the pattern and the concept, but something about it makes the wearer look like her torso is really, really long.

Angelababy is a model/actress/singer, and apparently was in a webseries called TWEET LOVE STORY, that does NOT have a Wikipedia page so it's possibly imaginary.

Qin Lan

This dress is so, so cute. She's also a model/actress/singer.

Camilla Belle

This is VERY ladylike. I always wonder why the American women who choose to attend an event like this in another country are thinking -- well, beyond the fact that I assume they're being paid to attend. I'm sure the first thought is, "I'd love to make some money, and also get to go to Shanghai!" and I'm sure they're also super fond of Michael Kors. But while the PR angle for Hilary Swank is surely "REMIND EVERYONE I EXIST," I think for someone like Belle, who doesn't really have a super robust acting resume, there becomes a danger that you're only known for attending events.

Leigh Lezark

Exhibit A.

Zhang Xinyi

It's not a real event if someone isn't wearing a jumpsuit.

Liu Tao

Or shorts. (Although I must admit, her hair is really cute.)

Fugs and Fabs: The Michael Kors Jet Set Experience, Shanghai
The fact that this is called THE MICHAEL KORS JET SET EXPERIENCE just delights me. That sounds like it ought to be a ride at Disneyland. Instead of 3D glasses, they give you sunglasses and a spray tan and then you get to wear pretty dresses and have Kors squeal at you that you look like a brioche. I'd ride it 100 times. Also -- not surprisingly, given that this event was in Shanghai, many Chinese actresses with whom I am not that familiar attended. If you have good scoop about any of them, OBVIOUSLY unload in the comments. [Photos: Getty]
