Carey Mulligan in Chanel, Meryl Streep in Marni

Okay: Carey gave birth A WEEK AGO. Let's please give her an ovation for so calmly showing up to work when NOBODY would have begrudged her staying home and snuggling her infant. Surely she's going to give the rest of the premieres a miss, so maybe she wanted to be present at least for this one. I don't know. But APPLAUSE, girl, and also this outfit is quite cute and seems SUPER comfortable for postpartum. Brava.

Also, I love what Meryl is wearing. It's so unusual for her and it looks fantastic.

This... is less successful. It's basically a gift bag. But what kind of time has she even had to LOOK at anything? I give her a free pass for this, and I wish her a very happy and peaceful time getting to know her new tot. If it spits up on this, no harm no foul.

Romola Garai, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne-Marie Duff, Carey Mulligan

This was the only shot I had of Romola Garai's full dress, which I think is nice on her, but the solid part of the bodice might need to rise up a smidge higher.

Helena Bonham Carter

Has divorcing Tim Burton brought her back closer to Earth, style-wise?

Anne-Marie Duff and James McAvoy

This might ALSO need a hoiking, but I still really like it. They're a fetching pair.

Geena Davis

There's a little bit of Surprise Leg Pizza here, but I have to say, she looks fabulous anyway. I miss Geena Davis, which I didn't realize until right now.

Meryl Streep

Not as successful to me as the Marni, but you DO know I love a mighty wave.

Fugs and Fabs: The Suffragette Premiere
There was a bit of a brouhaha recently surrounding some promotional t-shirts the cast of Suffragette wore, which repeat a portion of a quote from the film's subject, Emmeline Pankhurst: "I'd rather be a rebel than a slave." Taken out of context, that quote can mean a whole lot of other things to a whole lot of people. Between that and Valentino's African-inspired show that used mostly white models in corn rows, I'm thinking nobody these days has any advisers who are paying attention. [Photos: Getty, Fame/Flynet]
