OF COURSE this is at Cannes, and it's a beautiful place to start. This is like whimsical kitchen cafe curtains on HGH.

I love anyone who loves a matching lining.

This is an exceptional effort. Who hasn't thought, "what will enliven this suit? I KNOW. A bouquet bursting forth from my bosom!"

This is delicious and also it might be pants? It fits perfectly in SWINTON's Unconventional But Glamorous Alien Weirdo aesthetic.

This is patriotic! Drag it out come November 8th, Swinton!

She actually looks amazing in this, I think -- the bomber jacket is also very current. So mark this as something else she could drag out if she wants to.

She was into these shoes in 2004, apparently!

This is a brief and unexpected foray into the oatmeal shades.

Presenting SWINTON'S Ode to Ode on a Grecian Urn.

And we've entered the Michael Clayton portion of history, in which Clooney appears, primarily, to be delighted to be in Swinton's orbit, as well should he be. Their collaboration worked out well for her, given that she won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for that role. (I always like to look back at who else was nominated in any given year, and she beat Cate Blanchett for I'm Not There, Ruby Dee for American Gangster, Saoirse Ronan for Antonement, and Amy Ryan in Gone Baby Gone; this was the year at Blanchett was ALSO nominated for Best Actress for Elizabeth: The Golden Age, which she lost to Marion Cotillard. Clooney himself lost to Daniel Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood, which seems right. That was a sort of weak year, looking back at it.)

In which Cloons seems -- rightly -- transfixed by her print and her sunglasses.

I want to tape this up inside my locker. She looks so cool in this.

Somewhere in Heaven, David Bowie is nodding proudly.

Somewhere on earth, I wonder where I can get one of these for myself.

This feels very traditional for La Swinton. That's not a bad thing, just a surprise.

This is when I remembered that Swinton was also in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button with Brad here. Or, as I like to call it, Jesus Christ When Are We Going to Get To The Part Where Brad Pitt Is Hot Already? (This is at the Venice Film Festival, and Clooney is there because this is actually a screening for Burn After Reading, which the three of them are in together.)

This is at the Met Gala, and that year the theme was "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy," and I think we can all agree that she could have done WAY MORE WITH THAT.

These shoes have my heart.

This is beautiful and unsettling, a combination that seems just about perfect for her.

Swinton was wearing one sleeve before one sleeve was cool. (This is at the Oscars, the year she won.)

That's some stellar shoe/suit coordination work,

FABULOUS.

Fabulous squared.

This is elegant and memorable, in the sense that when I saw it again I thought, "OH, I remember this one!"

I am all Heart Eyes Emojis over this, from the lip to the print.

On the other hand, this one is a musty tragedy best left to the dusts of time.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish I hadn't blown my "!!!!!!!" already, because that encapsulates my feelings here as well. The pattern! The beading! The fact that she might be worshiping this objet. I applaud!

Everyone DOES look hotter in sunglasses.

Swinton does not lack a bracelet.

Don't scoff. It's useful to have a travel pillow built in to your dress.

I'm sure I hated this at the time, but I love it now. It's so Quirky Elegant Woman of a Certain Age in a Position of Power at a Major Metropolitan Art Museum.

Same.

This is actually a sculpture of the creature Swinton transforms into, come the full moon.

This has a bare back and the one sleeve is -- yet again! -- a little goofy, but it's also super sexy and that color is fantastic on her.

I was more into this when I thought the landscaping form behind her was part of her hair.

Two great tastes!

The front of this is normal. But who cares about the normal part?

This. Is. Glorious.

Proof positive that even Swinton leaves the house in her dressing gown sometimes.

I do think that we can all take a moment to give praise that the time for shoes such as these has passed.

This is both great and seriously two dresses belted together.

Fantastic.

I can sort of see this eventually showing up on Hillary Clinton?

Ditto. (Just kidding. Probably.)

This is fantastic and her bracelets are beyond.

This coat is fairly fantastic, as well.

I did not like this when it first appeared and I do not like it now.

But this is GLORIOUS.

This is, likewise, transcendently cool.

I believe we made a Golden Girls joke originally and I would make one again about this, to be honest.

The mullet dress strikes!

This is deliciously neutral.

I love this and want it.

In which La Swinton dresses as Paper Source's finest.

This is, uh, cozy?

Talk about a scrolldown fug. All of this is great, until you get to her feet, when it's like everything bursts into flames.

Your Most High Priestess welcomes you to Monday Morning Worship at the Holy Temple of Swintonia.

In case you wanted to eyeball The Lover of The Swinton.

Crisp and perfect -- actually, kind of like her performance in Trainwreck.

I do miss her red lip here.

I....need to sit down now. This makes my face hurt.

Why wear a dress UNDER a coat when you can just belt one TO a coat?

Swinton's version of "casual weekend denim" is of course a sweeping duster.

Glorious.

Fantastic.

Perfection.
