Caitriona Balfe in Delpozo

We begin with this, a dress I think is theoretically pretty, if also slightly like if a second grader was asked to depict the galaxy using sequins and pasta. I think I'd have liked it better if the color of the bottom stood in more stark contrast to the white bodice. In some photos that aqua got washed out entirely.

I'm curious how I'll like this season, as much of Sam Heughan's draw for me last time around was that he REALLY rocked the messy, sweaty highlander aesthetic. I also don't know how much of Tobias Menzies they use, and I don't read the books, but... I REALLY didn't like him in the season one premiere, when he was her love interest, and so it was GREAT when Black Jack Randall turned up and he got to be a rotter, as Romantic Hero did not seem to be his strength. The flip side of that, for him, is that sadly I also now cannot see him as anything other than a smarmy evil douchelord, so I fear a career of typecasting may be in his future.

His suit fits beautifully. That lucky tailor.

Sam seems to struggle with what to do with his long hair. It's endearing. Tobias looks charming here. Caitriona... looks like she's wearing someone else's clothes because her luggage got lost.

This is a true Fug or Fab for me. Because sometimes I look at it and appreciate how crisply architectural it is, and how well she wears it, and then other times the ruffles seem like a droopy step too far.

Mostly, the end of last season's Outlander was SUCH a grind that I feel like some of these panels are an excuse to be like, "SEE? WE ARE ALL HAPPY AND NICE. IT'S ALL GOING TO BE OKAY."

Outlander is on its way back. We're debating recapping it, but it depends on... well, a lot of things, one of them being time. But I'm going to scrap Empire, and Outlander seems like something you'd all enjoy discussing. Or at least the muscled thighs and huge skirts. [Photos: Getty, Fame/Flynet]
