GREETINGS! I hope it's not too hot wherever you are.

This is a good question, asked by Vox: "[Are carbon offsets all they’re cracked up to be? We tracked one from Kenya to England to find out](https://www.vox.com/23817575/carbon-offsets-credits-financialization-ecologi-solutions-scam?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io)."

Perfect: [Is This a Taco Bell Party or Am I Having an Existential Crisis?](https://www.esquire.com/food-drink/restaurants/a44715867/taco-bell-grilled-cheese-dipping-taco-review/?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io) (This is of course the work of Dave Holmes.) \[Esquire\]

Apparently, [Taylor Swift paid out $55 million!!! in tour bonuses to everyone from drivers to security to caterers](https://pubx.co/BhReFu?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io). That is well played indeed, good for Taylor! \[Lainey\]

Speaking of well played: "[Clinic renamed for Boston-born actress Eliza Dushku Palandjian and husband after $7.5 mil donation to Brigham & Women’s](https://www.boston.com/news/health/2023/08/02/clinic-renamed-for-boston-born-actress-eliza-dushku-palandjian-and-husband-after-7-5-mil-donation-to-brigham-womens/?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io)." (I didn't even know she'd gotten married! Mazel tov all around to Faith.) \[Boston.com\]

[Andrew Garfield is on a boat!](https://pubx.co/wmKkkA?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io) \[Lainey\]

Oooh, [Travel + Leisure has released their best of 2023 awards](https://www.travelandleisure.com/worlds-best-2023-7551723?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io). I love having Best of awards happening in the dead zone of summer!

Thanks to the Fug National who sent this in, it is a real mess: At the Cut: [The Smutty Hockey Drama Melting Down BookTok.](https://www.thecut.com/2023/08/hockey-star-alex-wennberg-booktok-sexual-harassment.html??ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io)

This seems potentially DIVISIVE. At the Wirecutter, pick your fighter:[ The Best Pen.](https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/the-best-pen/?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io) (I agree the Pentel is excellent.)

At Texas Monthly: [How Paul Reubens’s ‘Pee-wee’s Big Adventure’ Defined Texas for Non-Texans](https://www.texasmonthly.com/arts-entertainment/paul-reubens-pee-wees-big-adventure-alamo-texas/?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io)

Can you blame them? At Eater: [Celebrities Can’t Stop Making Ice Cream](https://www.eater.com/23814413/celebrity-ice-cream-brands-snoop-dogg-cher-dr-bombay?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io)

SO interesting: [Why your hotel smells like that.](https://wapo.st/3QoDykZ?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io) (I always say that I want my house to smell like a hotel. Yes, [of course, I have bought candles from Hotel Lobby Candle!](https://rstyle.me/+z0QvrD-O3EJ04nzQ-SiiEw?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io)) \[WaPo, gifted link; affiliate link\]

Here's the [Top Ten things Fug Nation bought in July.](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/fug-nation-loved-these-ten-items-in-july-08-2023/)

Vanity Fair reports "[Meryl Streep, George Clooney, More A-Listers Donate Millions to SAG-AFTRA Foundation](https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2023/08/meryl-streep-george-clooney-more-a-listers-donate-millions-to-sag-aftra??ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io)." The "more" include Julia Roberts, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kidman, the Damons, the Lopez-Bflecks, and a bunch of other A-listers. As they should! Especially, as the article says, Fran thinks the strike might go another six months, which will be, frankly, financially nightmarish for Los Angeles as a whole.

Meanwhile: [Leah Remini is suing the Church of Scientology and David Miscavige](https://pubx.co/9NBFbo?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io). \[Socialite Life\]

["How to Unsuccessfully Spin Bad PR: Ariana and Spongebob Edition](https://www.pajiba.com/celebrities%5Fare%5Fbetter%5Fthan%5Fyou/how-ariana-grande-and-ethan-slater-are-trying-to-spin-bad-press-surrounding-their-relationship.php?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io)." This is also a mess! \[Pajiba\]

Also also a mess: [ *Days of Our Lives* has suspended production during an investigation of misconduct.](https://www.vulture.com/2023/08/days-of-our-lives-pauses-taping-after-misconduct-probe.html?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io) (This week's F&P has more mess than anticipated.) \[Vulture\]

I too wondered this: "[Why is Susan Sarandon attending a film festival during the SAG-AFTRA strike?"](https://www.celebitchy.com/828986/why%5Fis%5Fsusan%5Fsarandon%5Fattending%5Fa%5Ffilm%5Ffestival%5Fduring%5Fthe%5Fsag-aftra%5Fstrike/?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io)I think it's because she's accepting a lifetime achievement award and not promoting a specific project. \[Celebitchy\]

This is [an interesting piece about Renaissance beauty secrets](https://www.tatler.com/article/renaissance-beauty-secrets-they-arent-so-different-to-our-own-fascinating-new-book-finds??ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io), at Tatler.

At Drinks with Broads this week: We got into [Aidan's DUMB COAT](https://drinkswithbroads.substack.com/p/and-just-like-that-aidan-is-back) in the AJLT recap; [talked about the weirdest travel-sized toiletries and had a spoiler-y *Barbie* chat](https://drinkswithbroads.substack.com/p/spoiler-rich-old-dudes-continue-to), yakked about [Goop renting her guest house on airbnb and how off brand that is](https://drinkswithbroads.substack.com/p/at-homewith-goop), as well as the Trudeaux divorce and how a Canadian betting site wants him to date a cavalcade of Choices, and the Lizzo allegations. Come on by!

And here at GFY, we've had many a chat: [What’s Your Favorite Newsletter?](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/your-afternoon-chat-whats-your-favorite-newsletter-08-2023/), and [What’s Your Dream Vacation?](https://go-fug-yourself.ghost.io/your-afternoon-chat-whats-your-dream-vacation-2-08-2023/), and
