This photo is dated 1997, which is weird, because she was nominated in 1996 and 1998 but NOT 1997, and yet I don't have photos of either of those. Maybe she was busy. ANYWAY. Here is Glenn wearing what 1997 seemed to want Women of a Certain Age to wear. You'll be pleased to note she takes it foxier in a minute, although obviously she looks perfectly nice (if boring) here.

She won this year for The Lion in Winter, and is truly glowing.

This is a very glam dress, and she has VERY glam shoulders, but it's the wrong size. She wore it for the first of four Damages nominations. That show was really very good. I was binge-watching it while pregnant with the beans, and in fact, it's what I was watching right before I decided I needed to go to the hospital to have them. My water broke at like 4:30 a.m. and I think I went into a little shock and denial, because it was 9 weeks too soon, and I convinced myself it was silly to wake up my doctor(!!). So I went out to the couch and watched Damages until 6:30 and then I was like, "Yep, I'm in labor, gotta jam." Three hours later they were out. FUN. (Hot tip from my nurse: If your rational brain shuts down and you find yourself too self-conscious to wake your OB/GYN, call the labor and delivery people at your hospital. They are always awake, given that they are working, and will happily talk you through whatever is happening, and even call your doc for you. Don't be like me. The end.)

This was her double year of Damages and Albert Nobbs. She did not win for either one, but I appreciate that she showed up looking like a semi-villainous saloon owner.

She went more casual for this year, and then went ahead and won the damn thing for The Wife. Oh how I wish for a strong lip here.

And then she lost the Oscar unexpectedly, and she showed up for the 2020 SAGs looking like she has started a semi-villainous worship group. Truly, I love this on her. ALL HAIL THE CLOSE. See? It's working.
