I adore this. I'm not sure we've seen Viola in an explosive fishtail like that. I used to get weary of them because, for example, some actresses (Sofia Vergara springs to mind) feel like they went to them every time. But it feels like fresh territory on her. And the colors and the pattern are phenomenal.

Lovely lipstick. I am... not sold on the gown. It's macrame-adjacent. But it does look good on her.

This feels a little uninspired.

My favorite thing about this is, from a screen grab, you can't even be sure Frances McDormand skipped. Because she honestly might just wear that to a show. [She did skip.] Everyone else is DELIGHTED, which is so nice. That's Vanessa Kirby in the top right. I wish we had a better look at her.

But seriously, at least Jason Sudeikis was in London trying to stay awake. Joaquin Phoenix was in L.A., the earliest of the time zones, and he looks like the actual presenter backed out and they had to pull in one of the grips.

Chadwick won posthumously, which was expected, yet still no less poignant. His wife Simone Ledward Boseman (some outlets had her as Taylor Simone Ledward, but the Globes used the former) cried through her speech but did a wonderful job. And she looked glorious. Not that it's important -- seriously, if SHE wanted to accept his in a zip-up hoodie, I'm fine with that -- but I'm sure it was fun to imagine him being there on her arm, all fancied up. Ugh, it's so tragic.

A well-deserved round of applause from everyone except Anthony Hopkins. I assume he was clapping too, wherever he was. (The others are Riz Ahmed, top left, and then Gary Oldman and Tahar Rahim on the bottom.)

Did all these people get hotel rooms for these Zooms?

Isla Fisher is SO THRILLED for Sacha. It's very endearing. Andy Samberg looks a little bummed. I wish we could see more of both Joanna Newsom and Vanessa Nadal. We need DETAILS. (The other noms are James Corden, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Dev Patel.)

This is a huge hideous hilarious dress -- a Triple H, with apologies to the wrestler -- and I am so glad she wore it. I got the biggest giggle out of it...

... when she won (for I Care A Lot, which I had no idea was supposedly funny? Or even good?). She looks like she is melting into a puddle of strawberry jam, and they called her name right before she fully liquefied.

I promise Anya was actually very excited for Rosamund, and this is just a bad grab. Also: Wow, Kate Hudson had EVERYONE with her. I said to Jessica that the one person who has to be more relieved to lose than Lily Collins is Kate Hudson, because I'm sure she did not want to have to talk about that movie any more than she already has. Music looks just awful and offensive and... it being nominated is, I think, the HEIGHT of the HFPA looking like big ol' crooked charlatans.

Kate did have to do a pre-show interview, for which she chose a really awful top.

DO NOT WORRY, we will cover Anya's actual outfit when we get to the category she won. In the meantime, for some reason she changed for the virtual pressroom into.... whatever sad thing this is. (It's actually a very plain Dior, and I'm glad she can twirl in it, but on camera here it looks dreadful.) Don't ditch the green, Anya! And for goodness's sake, get your hair out of your face. Love, Your Internet Grandmother.
