Golden Globes 2007

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen

2007 Golden Globe Red Carpet Retrospective

NOTHING says, "hello! It's 2007!" like MK and A Olsen on a red carpet, attached at the hip. (Not for nothing, but both of their bags are amazing.)

Reese Witherspoon

Remember this?! Reese and Ryan had just broken up, and she got possibly the best Break-up Bangs in modern memory. Her choice to go cocktail length was ALSO quite bold at the time. In 2017, this doesn't feel as ballsy as it did ten years ago, but she still looks FANTASTIC in it.

Beyonce

2007 was the year that Jennifer Hudson won for Dreamgirls, and therefore ALSO the year that I suspect Beyonce thought SHE would be the breakout Dreamgirl. (Turns out she's managed okay for herself even without having won that Oscar yet.) Honestly, I think she looks FANTASTIC in this. It's Elie Saab, and she could wear it on Sunday and look just as fantastic. Amazing.

Jennifer Hudson

Jennifer Hudson looks fine here, although I think she looks better to me because I'm remember how wacky she ended up looking at the Oscars at the bolero-loving hands of Andre Leon Talley.

Cate Blanchett

I believe this is McQueen and I kinda hate it. It also turned out not to be particularly memorable because I had TOTALLY forgotten this dress even existed, and I probably won't remember it after I finish writing this.

Jennifer Lopez

This is Marchesa, and she looks so good in it.

Rinki Kikuchi in Chanel

I hated this at the time -- I'm sure I made a joke about shower puffs -- but I kind of love it now. I still think it's ABSURD, but I appreciate the absurdity now in a way that I didn't, ten years ago. However, the passage of time has rendered her shoes boring. Funny how that works.

Kate Winslet

This is timeless and pretty -- you would not regret getting married in it -- also kind of a snooze. For sure, she needs a hoik.

Cameron Diaz

NOT a snooze. And a good reminder that Cameron Diaz looks great with dark hair.

Emily Blunt and singer Michael Buble

Did you remember these two dated? NEITHER DID I! (I love Emily, and this dress looks like a Herve Leger bandage dress with curtains tacked to the hem, and she looks rather like an evil Katy Perry in it.)

William H. Macy and Felicity Huffman

This was a great look on her. (He looks like himself - so, totally nice and good.)

Will and Jada

They ALSO look nice, and SO young, right? And also a bit like Jada is a bridesmaid and Will is her loving date.

Ginnifer Goodwin, Chloe Sevigny and Jeanne Tripplehorn

I mean, Chloe takes this one, right? She looks SUPER in that patterned frock. (Ginnifer is a little wrinkly; Jeanne kinda looks like she's heading off to a professional luncheon.) Facially, however, all three of them look tremendous.

Katherine Heigl

She was nominated in this year (and won the Emmy, although she lost the Globe to Samantha Morton in Longford, whatever that was. GLOBES SO CRAZY). The year after this was the one where she was like, "I AM NOT SUBMITTING ANYTHING BECAUSE THE WRITERS DID A TERRIBLE JOB WITH ME THIS YEAR," which, in fairness, was true, but not very diplomatic. Anyway, she looks fine and totally Heigl-ish. I kinda miss Katherine Heigl, honestly.

Sharon Stone

Never change, Sharon. You are the inspiration board for my late 40s here (where she was 48).

Penelope Cruz

This is pretty -- she is, of course, gorgeous -- but ultimately not super memorable. Man, people were all about sticking a brooch on stuff in 2007.

Hayden Panettiere

This is cute; Hayden is one of the starlets at this event who spent a wee bit too much time in the spray tan machine.

Sheryl Crow

SHERYL. STEP AWAY FROM THE MYSTIC TAN. OH MY GOD.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner

I LOVE this dress on J Gar; Ben, of course, ALREADY looks checked out of this relationship.

Vanessa Williams

I ador her, but this is a little too much going on. Maybe lose the fur?

Maggie Gyllenhaal

She looks as stoked about this as I am. Good bracelets, though.

Hilary Swank

This is fine. But has any actress in modern memory won TWO Oscars and disappeared so completely? You need to get on a prestige TV show, Hilary Swank. Look at your life.

Sandra Oh

I love her, and this. Sandra Oh ALSO should be on a prestige TV show. She's so great and I miss her. I live in fear that she's going to decide to come back to Grey's, and then I TOO will have to come back to Grey's. Grey's Anatomy is like my ex-boyfriend that I can't stop thinking about, even though I know I was really fed up with him at the end. I need to just remember the good times and close the door forever. IT'S JUST SO HARD.

Ellen Pompeo

Speaking of Grey's Anatomy! This is also pretty great on her.

Brad and Angelina

I mean. This was about a year after they'd confirmed their relationship, and about eight months after Shiloh was born. A GLORIOUS TIME FOR BRANGELINA. I'm also dying to know who is getting the eyeball from these two.

Drew Barrymoore and Hugh Grant

Aw, these two are so cute. They must have been presenting together or something -- Music and Lyrics was just about to premiere, and bring us the only thing that gives me joy anymore.

Renee Zellweger

Ah, yes. The ten years when this was literally the only dress Renee would wear.

Annette Bening and Warren Beatty

I LOVE how delighted Annette looks. (Warren got the Cecil B DeMille this year, so they had a lot to celebrate.)

Sienna Miller

I like this SO much better now than I did then. Even the Heidi Braids are okay with me now, as silly as they are.

Malin Akerman

This is SO 2007, from hair to shoes. Bless you, Malin, for demonstrating for the class.

Kristen Bell

Are K Bell and Malin wearing the same shoes?! No -- the ankle straps are different. But, man. Same designer for sure.

Jaime King

Jaime! She looks SO YOUNG here.

Allison Janney

Allison Janney: a goddess, now and forever.

Rose McGowan

I was going to say that this look hasn't aged well, but this was probably ALWAYS a little Musty Bordello.

Sarah Paulson

This is an amazing advertisment for how GREAT Sarah Paulson's current team (and haircut!) is. Ten years older, and she looks so much more fantastic now.

Geena Davis

I love this color.

Rosario Dawson

I feel like even Rosario is looking back at this and thinking, "I regret those bangs."

Mischa Barton

Mischa! You could wear this again and no one would bat an eye. Timeless! Who knew?

Paula Patton

Speaking of who knew: How cute is Paula here? (Those shoes are adorable.)

Sharon Leal

Sharon's like, "no, please. Let's pretend this never happened. THANKS."

Jessica Biel

Biel looked amazing at this Golden Globes, but, for my money, the woman behind her is really stealing focus. She is STUNNED by Jessica Biel.

Jessica Biel

In fairness, this WAS the period of time wherein Jessica Biel was reminding everyone that she's got an amazing body. (Which: noted! She looks superb in this.)
