I believe Cathy Zeta won best dressed this year from Fug Nation, and I can see why. I think some of it was sentimentality -- this was Michael Douglas's first time back out after throat cancer, and he got a standing ovation inside, etc. -- but also the gown is gorgeous. The color, the texture, the fit... she's a queen.

People also liked this one, but I am less fond. All that stitching across her body feels overwrought.

If one HAS to wear satin, this is not a bad way to do it.

And I really, really love this. Mila wore a lot of good stuff on the Black Swan trail.

I liked this more than most of you did, and I think it's because I was just so thrilled she was in a color.

KABOOM.

I think she needed her hair pulled back, because it's quarreling with her shoulder flower. The dress looks super on her though.

This is... red fabric, on a body. Fine, check, next!

She looks very pretty, but again, I don't know why the designer decided to make the boob-cup seams. Imagine it without them.

She has always been adept with fit, and this is no exception.

Whereas the lone gigantic sleeve here is hideous and feels like she hurt herself and needed a way to strap an ice pack to her arm all night.

The tie at her waist is a confusing creature, but otherwise this is so... normal! And good! I KNOW!

She is pregnant here, and made a very lovely choice with her gown.

The ring with that dress color is great, but it reads a trifle like bedding to me.

"This actually IS my hotel sheet. I spilled one of the tiny ketchups on my real skirt."

That's great. Simple and colorful and well-executed.

I've flip-flopped on this a lot over the years. It was her first big awards event -- for Easy A -- and she'd bleached her hair for another part, and I think her team must have told her to go spray-tan herself as part of her styling regimen. It went too far. The dress itself is nice, and she looks good, but just... orange.

"Do we REALLY want to go hang out with these people? It's not too late."

She may have been there in service of Tangled. Great color, but the cut isn't that imaginative.

It's the year of the Gleeks! I feel like the ruffles need to start at her belt.

But I LOVE this.

That teal is a dream. I didn't love this back then. Why? I like it so much now.

Eh, whatever, why not.

This is hilarious. It's... HBC in a nutshell. It's the photo they should put in every story about her, ever, and do not even DREAM of cutting out the mismatched shoes.

Meanwhile, this sweet fresh face had arrived, with EXCELLENT accessories and styling.

"Remember the plan, everyone. Delete, delete, delete. No one wants to remember this."

This is a nice idea, but with a really underwhelming and oddly frumpy execution.

At the time we thought Anne's dress was a bit snug. Now, we'd put it in the Sexy Tootsie contest. But in my defense, part of why we didn't like it was what we called the backy hose holding it all together.

Sandy was there as the previous year's winner, but it feels like the bangs suggest she was hoping to go incognito.

She has CRAZY taste sometimes, so this is quite good.

This one is depressing. The color, the aura of industrial paper towels...

Ack, and this one too.

She looks pretty good, mostly because her HEAD is so great. The hair color! It's my ideal Kidman!

She was still young enough then that this felt aging.

If Blair Waldorf moved to HBO for "Big Love," we'd get this.

We had a little fun with this one: After the parade of beiges, we decided to imagine it in a couple colors. Even though she does look lovely in it as-is.

She is delightful but that bodice is not.

She asked people to Consider Melissa Leo, and they DID. (She may technically have asked that AFTER she won the Globe but before the Oscar, but I'm never going to NOT mention Consider Melissa Leo.)

Everyone looks very nice here.

People are freaking out now about he HFPA being for sale, but haven't we always known this? It's like an open secret, a frequent joke. Look no further than Piper being nominated for Covert Affairs. It was not a great show and she was mediocre in it, and yet.

Hah, this was when I first called her The Widow Longoria, because she looked like someone showing up at a funeral to make it about her and then announce her impending third marriage. Good times.

I'm so tired of big black dresses already.

Oh, HALLE. No one has forgotten that you are hot.

Hey now, that's good.

"Yes, I'm growing a tarantula on my head, and I will not be taking further questions at this time."

What was I JUST saying about industrial paper towels.

We renamed this photo "Hairy Christian Bale," which says it all.

Why not!

This was the WEIRDEST coupling. I think she looks older here because someone specifically didn't want her to look her actual age of 22.

Shannen! Your loincloth. It's... well, too late now.

I believe this was her big year of being the first person to the red carpet, in a huge dress, and getting about 30 minutes of the photographers' largely undivided attention. She made the most of it; that's a great gown on her.

And she even gave us a shoe moment. Forever in her debt.
