It's a surprise to exactly no one that Lady Gaga picked a massive skirt for the beginning of what many had assumed would be a golden awards-season run (but which last night yielded no fruit for anything but "Shallow" from *A Star Is Born*). It's always a thrill when other people make large choices, too, though, even if they're not always successful. I would include Lady Gaga's in that category, too, actually. HOT TAKE? Probably. Let's dive in and discuss, in a slideshow which is brought to you largely -- pun intended -- by Elie Saab, Monique Lhuillier, Ralph & Russo, and Valentino.

Also, yes, we took some liberties with the concept of "Big." Sometimes it means a poofy skirt, sometimes it means "bigger than they usually wear," and sometimes it's about the aura. Mostly, we just wanted you to start the day with a nice grab bag before we drill down into the nitty-gritty, so if your favorite spiritually big dress isn't in here, don't worry. We'll get to it. We're here all day.
