I mean, seriously. Emily is hardly Deschanel The Lesser. She's really good on Bones, a successful TV show in a multi-year run. Many a Hollywood actress has gone out to a red-carpet gala on the heels of childbirth, and rarely was a caftan the answer. If the right person had styled her, we'd all be sitting here today going, "HOT DAMN, EMILY DESCHANEL." As it is, I just kind of wish she hadn't had to stand next to Zooey, in a dress that I DO like.

This looks lovely on her. She doesn't seem the type to go for something totally over-the-top, but there's just enough going on to make it cool. And it's not twee, which is good, because ... listen, I feel for her (a little). She can't help what people like about her, what they seize on about her, or what works for her. She's adorable. She's dorky. "Adorkable" may be an irritating word, but I don't fault HER for it. She's just making a living. That being said, I think a departure from girly-girl stuff into something sophisticated was a smart move.

I DO think it's apt that the back of her dress is basically in the shape of a peace sign - well, that, or a little graphic of an airplane, but my guess is that it's the former, and that it's on purpose.

The HAIR was my problem. Why does she have sideburns? We concluded that it's a wig, and that she wanted to look like herself yet have the shorter, bouncier '60s look, which she can't do with her actual hair because it's long and wavy for her TV show. But... couldn't she find a wig that didn't give her mutton chops? You're Zooey Deschanel, not Mr. Darcy.
