I thought Seth did a good job last night; I was not particularly concerned about that, given that Seth is basically always good at this sort of thing, and also because I heard him on Pod Save America this past week and he'd clearly been thinking very diligently about how best to act as host; he also has a fair amount of women on his writing staff, and his wife here is a human rights attorney who fights sex trafficking, so I was fairly confident he wasn't going to fall into a hole of blazing sexism. (I also loved his bit with Amy Poehler. I ALSO felt like spending a whole night with Seth Meyers really reminded me how BLAND Colin Jost is.)
Sterling K. Brown
Many men went for velvet last night, and I approve. I also, as you can imagine, was delighted by Sterling K. Brown's win, as I love him deeply.
Lawrence Fishburne
This is his go-to look for awards shows, and this version of it is very cool and feels right on targt.
Justin Timberlake
Bear with me, but does Justin Timberlake looks like Kirk from Gilmore Girls all of a sudden? ALSO can we talk about how OBNOXIOUS he was last night? He COULD NOT stand there and be silently supportive while Ryan was interviewing Jessica Biel, his wife, WHO WAS NOMINATED. Ugh. Do less, JT.
Dave and James Franco
It's hard to tell in this photo, but Dave Franco's lapels were very glittery; it was sort of disco and fun. As far as James Franco goes, A LOT of Twitter was side-eyeing his Time's Up pin, and, indeed, there have been rumors about Franco's behavior with teenage girls for a very long time.
Chris Hemsworth
Bless you, Chris Hemsworth, for making this so interesting. (I would NOT have predicted The Hems for wearing one of last night's more interesting tuxes.)
Alvina Stewart and Anthony Anderson
Anthony Anderson's look is VERY well done here -- including that great pin -- but I also wanted to shout out his wife's dress. She looks great. (And, while I'm here, if you're more well-educated on menswear than I am, which isn't difficult, please always feel free to weigh in on questions of cut and fit in the comments.)

Matt Smith looks SO MUCH BETTER with darker hair. That is all.

This was one of the more successful black-on-black looks to me, and I think it's because his shirt is slightly striped. As we saw with Hemsworth, sometimes you need a little textural action to break up all that black suiting.

This, also, is a GREAT interpretation of the all black dress code.

A lot of men who didn't want to, say, drape themselves in velvet, DID opt for the velvet lapel.

I just can't think of him right now without reflecting upon how he's probably STILL hungover from how he got so drunk at a pool hall this weekend that he had to be escorted out.

I love Denzel for being like, "I don't care what the kids are wearing. I'm going to wear this black suit that I own, and I'm going to look handsome in it, because I am Denzel Washington, and I'm one of the only true movie stars in the world."

Speaking of cute, The Rock's daughter Simone Johnson was the Golden Globes Ambassador this year, and she looks great. He, too, is a proper movie star and he looks it. They're posing with Dave Rienzi and Dany Garcia, who are Simone's step-father and mom. (Dany is also a producer in her own right, and is still the Rock's manager, so this was clearly all very amicable.) Put this picture on everyone's respective pianos!
Gary Oldman
There were a lot of good glasses at this event, as well. I do have to note that Oldman has some really nasty alleged stuff in his past -- his former wife alleged that he beat her with a telephone and tried to choke her in front of their children, and he's defended Mel Gibson, so....I'm not super thrilled about any of this!

One of the interesting things about last night was seeing how many shades of black fabric there actually are -- obviously, you think that black is black, but it's not true. This suit, for example, had ALMOST a brown cast to it that I thought was really elegant.
