I think this dress is perfect for this event. It's really lovely on her -- and obviously, it's very appropriate. (That's also, and I don't think this is disrespectful to note, an AMAZING wreath. It's beautiful.) Informative Caption tells us, "The Duke and Duchess, accompanied by The Governor of New South Wales, will attend the opening of the enhanced Anzac Memorial and receive a tour of the new education and interpretation facilities and the Hall of Silence where the sculpture Sacrifice stands."

Just devoted to giving you all the angles here.

This is the Hall of Silence, [which you can see better on the Memorial's website](https://www.anzacmemorial.nsw.gov.au/hall-silence?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io), which also has [(very interesting) details about this sculpture](https://www.anzacmemorial.nsw.gov.au/sacrifice?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io).

There is clearly something of note on the ceiling!

I pulled this photo in part because you can really see Meghan's jewelry -- her small earrings, and a few rings. Delicate tends to be her taste in terms of accessories, and certainly at this event that was the right call.

And, not for nothing, but this is an excellent hat.

## The Hall of Service

This is the Hall of Service, which I believe is part of the next extension;[ you can read about all the choices they made in the artwork here](https://www.anzacmemorial.nsw.gov.au/hall-of-service-artwork?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io), and it's honestly fascinating and so thoughtful.

These men took part in an opening ceremony in this room, and Informative Caption was NOT informative about who they are, or the meaning of what they were doing, which is disappointing to me. I'm sure this info will be included in an article that someone is probably writing as I write this, and I'll update this post when I can provide more information about them, but I also welcome any information you might have, too.

EDITED: Several of you have commented -- thank you! -- to note that it's very common at formal events to have a Welcome to Country or an Acknowledgement of County ceremony performed by an Elder; in Sydney, these Elders would be Gadigal, which is part of Eora nation.[ This is a very interesting resource about Sydney's relevant protocols](https://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/%5F%5Fdata/assets/pdf%5Ffile/0008/278729/Aboriginal-and-Torres-Strait-Islander-Protocols-summary.pdf?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io). I believe they did perform a smoking ceremony today. Thank you for sharing this, Fug Nation! (Please let me know if I got any of that wrong, and if you have any more information, please share!)

EDITED AGAIN! One of you actually worked on this, which is thrilling! I'm just going to cut and paste from tvflapps comment:

"Prior to the Duke and Duchess’ tour of the Memorial today, there was an Aboriginal smoking ceremony in the Memorial’s new Hall of Service. The ceremony was performed by the Koomurri Aboriginal Dance Troupe (whose members are pictured in the photo with Harry & Meghan), a prominent Aboriginal entertainment and cultural organisation in the City of Sydney. Traditionally “smoking ceremonies are an ancient custom among Aboriginal Australians in which native plants are burnt to produce smoke to ward off bad spirits, acknowledge ancestors and pay respect to the land and sea of country. The smoke is believed to have healing and cleansing properties.”

The Hall of Service displays soil collected from 1,701 towns, suburbs and hamlets from across New South Wales, and from 100 sites across the world, commemorating a century of New South Wales military service. The smoking ceremony also continued outside for guests before the beginning of the event."
