Tina Turner, 1989

Yes, Tina, you ARE simply the best!

Grace Jones, 1989

I feel like having Tina Turner AND Grace Jones at your birthday party already means it is truly one of the greatest parties on earth.

Madonna, 1989

Madge looks so prim and buttoned up here. It's August, Madonna!

Sandra Bernhard, 1989

This is like THE quintessential 1989 outfit.

Scott Baio, 1989

Would love to hear what the four previous women think of Scott Baio.

Richard Gere, 1989

Richard Gere and Herb Ritts sort of hit it big together -- they were friends before either of them was famous, and this Ritts shot of Gere was a huge boon to both their careers. Gere here looks like he's cosplaying as the hottest nerd alive.

Julia Roberts, 1989

And look who his date was! (They were in the middle of shooting Pretty Woman right now, as you can probably tell by her hair.)

At one point, a LOT of people were pushing this car. Julia does not seem to be having a good night. (She was apparently REALLY stressed during the filming of said movie.)

Catherine Oxenberg, 1989

Catherine Oxenberg has played Princess Diana in TWO separate TV movies.

Kelly Preston, 1989

For a second, I thought Kelly Preston was helpfully carrying in a box of, like, printer paper or something. This hat could NOT be more 1989 if it tried.

Roger Wilson and Christy Turlington, 1990

And all of Christy feels very 1990. (He apparently went on to sue Leonardo DiCaprio for forty million dollars for allegedly bruising his larynx in a fight over Elizabeth Berkley.)

Madonna, 1990

I hope Madonna still owns ALL of this. It feels deeply her.

Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder, 1990

I coveted Winona's velvet pants then, and I covet them now.

Iman, 1991

!!!!!!!

Brigitte Nielsen, 1991

Also !!!!! but in a different tone of voice!

Madonna, 1991

Madonna has a dress code for this party and it involves a good red lip.

Drew Barrymore and guest, 1991

DREW WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH "AND GUEST" HERE?

Sandra Bernard, 1991

I'm amused by that belt buckle.

Christian Slater, 1991

"I'm a little scared of Madonna and I KNOW she's going to be at this party."

Madonna, 1991

"Yes. I'm over here now."

Jody Watley, 1991

Jody Watley! She looks SO cute here. I literally just opened Spotify to listen to "Looking For a New Love" while writing the rest of this post and OMG IT WAS GREAT. Turn it on right now. It will help whatever is wrong.

Donovan Leitch, 1991

Later, he took his shirt off and wandered around like that for a while.

Mario Van Peebles, 1991

Meanwhile, Mario Van Peebles started with his shirt already halfway off.

Talisa Soto and Costas Mandylor, 1991

Fun fact: Talisa was married to Costas, and is now married to Benjamin Bratt. I am really happy for her, and like that dress.

Amanda Donahoe, 1991

I miss big parties.

Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere, 1991

Richard's got a routine for this party!

Herb Ritts Used to Throw What Looked Like a VERY Fun Birthday Party This Week

The guest list was A+.
