Per WWD, apparently this inspiration was a Faberge egg. That seems to tie in with the ornate embroidery on some of these, which I hope we'll see on a red carpet soon -- or, say, on the Oscars stage? We have three hosts (Amy Schumer, Regina Hall, Wanda Sykes) and they'll probably need costume changes.
