You probably read the news stories about the premiere of *Three Thousand Years of Longing* over the weekend, as an [activist crashed the red carpet to protest sexual violence at the hands of the Russian army in Ukraine.](https://variety.com/2022/film/news/screaming-woman-removed-cannes-red-carpet-1235273340/?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io) I haven't included photos of the protest in this slideshow, but I did want to acknowledge it.

[As far as film itself goes, it sounds like a bit of a mess](https://variety.com/2022/film/reviews/three-thousand-years-of-longing-review-george-miller-1235271568/?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io), although another piece in Variety felt it was a Best Picture contender, so who really knows? One thing I can tell you is that Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton together on the red carpet feels like a good idea.
