I'm sure ALT liked the symmetry of her winning an Oscar in Oscar. I also can see him getting caught up in imagining this as being The Moment We All Started Wearing Boleros, which did not happen. Tiny jackets often just look like they shrank.

It ALSO doesn't look great close-up. I should at LEAST be able to explain this with, "But in person/close-up it looked SO IRRESISTIBLE," and that didn't happen either. I don't know what deal was struck with Vogue or ALT, but there is no world in which this woman should have been forced into an outfit that didn't make her feel glorious.

She took off the bolero for her victory, and I wonder if she just hated it that much, or she was hot. But it reveals the problem with the dress itself, which is, frankly, that it's just not special. There is nothing about that cut or that fabric that really feels momentous enough for this. It's... you know. Fine. But she deserved a knockout. And the SECOND she got off-stage...

... she changed. I am PRETTY SURE this is the Cavalli; I suspect the peace ALT and Jessica Paster allegedly brokered involved exactly when Jennifer could slip into the dress that she actually wanted to wear, and the victory lap apparently was it. This angle makes it seem like the bust doesn't fit as well as the OdlR does...

... but it's better here? THIS one would have looked great up on stage with the Oscar in her hand, and I'm happy she got to wear it. Then again, we all know I'm not especially avant-garde, so it's obvious I would lean this way over the other one. Overall, the brown dress ITSELF fits nicely but still dulls the senses; the bolero is silly to me; and the gold dress would have been my pick. Thank God Paster had it at the ready.
