## Jennifer Aniston

That cover line there is much better than the headline. I understand that they can't use it twice, but... I mean, they COULD, I guess? This is the newsstand version -- per their mailing of the images to the press -- and I REALLY enjoy that they kept it so simple. It's not overrun with text. It trusts in its choices. The close-up of her is clearly HER, but not cutesy; it's more wizened than her flippy-haired screwball comic Rachel days. The distance in her eyes feels like a self-reflective one. It works.

This whole thing is drippy, though. Elle did this before, where Kim Kardashian sent "personalized" messages to some "lucky" subscribers. It's so silly. It appears to undermine the intelligence of the subscriber, who surely cannot actually believe there was anything personal about this other than the appearance of their name in a handwriting-ish font.

I also don't like this subscriber cover. The newsstand one seems connected, albeit to something in the distance. Here, she seems spacey, like she's trying on hats while running lines in her head or trying to remember when *Game of Thrones* is coming back.

Apparently a strong subtext of this cover shoot was, "How much of her own hair does Jennifer Aniston accidentally ingest?"

This feels like a major callback to Friends. I remember at the time feeling like they CONSTANTLY had her nipples on display through her shirts, presumably because they keep the set cold -- so that there's room for the lights to warm it up, without everyone sweating bricks -- and I noticed it even back then, so... maybe this is considered a signature move.

"Is THAT my Lyft -- wait, no, my dude's license plate starts with a 6."

And this one is okay, but a little pursed, maybe. This whole thing was basically Just Okay, with the chosen cover tipping into Pretty Good.
