Chastain often suffers from fit issues when dresses cut her right at the waist; I don't know why, but her team always makes things a bit too pinchy there. This dress doesn't have that problem because it slides over her, and so it ends up being more flattering, I think.

But, there's the issue of the.... undershirt, for lack of a better word. Obviously it's part of the dress, but from the side it DOES make the gown look like overalls. And yet the overall effect on her is cool, partly because I don't think she's done this before, so it FEELS fresh on her even if it isn't.

The back is very underwhelming.

However, she seems DELIGHTED with her Chairman's Award -- this whole festival seems like it's designed so they can honor as many of the potentially nominated great performances as possible, because I guess she really NEEDED a glass spiralizer with a bunch of carrot noodles coming out of it.
