That skirt is dynamite -- it's perfect for Cannes. I like the IDEA of the studded part. But the inside-out deconstructed meh-ness o the bodice makes me sad. I wish people would give up the visible boning. It isn't interesting. It's not telling me anything. There are plenty of times where I want to know how things work, but this isn't one of them, and it's not visually interesting or funky enough to change my mind; it just looks like someone erased the sketch there and had to punt.
I mean.... it's really a sign when your dress looks SO MUCH BETTER when you can see even a little bit less of the bodice.

Let's give Haley Lu her own slide. This is a little bit Kahlo, a little bit Midsommar Night's Dream. She was engaged to Brett Dier from Jane the Virgin, who is also in this movie, BUT he's nowhere to be seen either here OR on her IG from the last while, so my working theory is that they broke up. Which I would be sorry for, obviously, as breakups suck, but what a potential relief not to have to do this big Cannes thing with your ex lurking.

At the photocall, Jodie also wore Gucci, of course. And it's doing the most, as is Gucci's wont. Imagine it without the weird shoulder bridle add the tall white collar. She'd still have a stripey open mouth on her torso but it'd be a lot simpler and possibly better -- while that design would make a lot of people look boxy, it doesn't seem to be doing that to her.
I had to laugh at the way she's holding her tassel like it's a cat o' nine tails.

LOOK at this adorable child's Doc Martens! I think I saw somewhere that she wore them on the red carpet also? I'm so here for that. I also hope they are not laughing because Malea Emma just asked what a cat o' nine tails is.

I JUST today said I wished Tony Ward would send his new stuff directly to Cannes, and apparently he did. I love this dress. I just... sorry Leonie... kind of wish it had gone to someone more famous? I'm not sure the odds are high we'll see it again now and it deserved a real A-list moment.
