If you click through the Life article I mentioned, this photo ran in that publication with the headlines "Senator Kennedy Goes a Courting." Here, they're sailing in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, and this shot -- by Hy Peskin, who was an AMAZING photographer -- is a great picture.

This is one of their official engagement photos; there is something very natural about the fact that you can see the top of JFK's sock.

The wedding was in St. Mary's in Newport, Rhode Island -- a church that was very old (for America) even then.

This hair-do was VERY on trend in 1953, but it feels so aging from the vantage point of 2020; I wonder if that's because we associate it with our grandmothers, or if the point of that style even then was to look more mature?

That's QUITE a crowd. Informative Caption here tells us, "Hundreds jammed outside the century-old church of St. Mary's in Newport, to catch a glimpse of Senator John F. Kennedy and his bride, the former Jacqueline Lee Bouvier after their wedding yesterday. The Massachusetts Senator is the son of the former ambassador to the court of St. James, Joseph P. Kennedy." (Joe Kennedy The Original was a nightmare parent/person, in case you were wondering! He has THE LONGEST "Controversies" section on Wikipedia that I've seen in recent memory, he was a bad spouse, and he had one of his children lobotomized WITHOUT TELLING HER MOTHER HE WAS DOING IT. So if you ever feel like you're falling down on the job as a parent, at least know you have not done that.)

This does look like a terrifically dreamy place for a wedding reception. (Is it humid in Newport in September?) Additionally, because I know this is weighing on you: I do think Jackie's bouquet is just about the right size.

Bobby Kennedy there is VERY excited for a piece of cake, and who can blame him?

This seems like a decent place to discuss Jackie's veil, which was her own grandmother's -- a lovely tradition.

I mostly pulled this pic so you could get a great look at the side details on this dress, which remind me -- and I swear this is a compliment -- of a really beautiful bedspread of this era. (Also: Shout-out to whoever that is in the floral dress in the background. That dress is GOOD.)

This is a truly gorgeous photo. (But who caught the bouquet?!)

I pulled a LOT of group shots of this -- very large! -- wedding party and I cannot really explain why. I guess I just liked them; they do feel natural and unstaged in a way that the Giant Photo of All These European Royals that we've seen in prior Wedding Rewinds never do.

The photography work at this wedding was just very photojournalistic -- intentionally, certainly -- and good. That's Jackie's flower girl and half-sister, Janet, winking at the camera. She died at 39 of lung cancer, which is a bit of a bring-down here -- I'm sorry. I think that's Ethel Kennedy in the foreground, yes? And Lee Radziwill, Jackie's sister, is the bareheaded brunette looking sort of wistful at the far left?

Town & Country reports that the bridesmaids wore pink! (I obviously included this shot because of that very handsome dog.)

Here's your proper, posed shot, and a good Informative Caption: "Hammersmith Farm belongs to the Bride's Grandfather. Kennedy is the son of the multi-millionaire former Ambassador to Great Britain. The couple met in Washington while Mrs. Kennedy was employed as an inquiring photographer for a Washington newspaper." Very straight-forward info, thank you!

And here is your posed gown shot! It's very elaborate and so pretty, and I cannot imagine having to REMAKE THIS DRESS IN TEN DAYS. Ann Lowe and team, you are superheroes.

And, like many of these gowns, it too went on display -- here, at the JFK Library in Dorchester, which has a permanent collection of Jackie's clothing, although I do not think the wedding dress is always available for viewing. (I'm absolutely sure one of you has been to the library and will be able to confirm this.) It seems shinier than I expected! What exceptional workmanship.
