John and Yoko were in Cannes to promote their short film, [*Apotheosis*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apotheosis%5F%28film%29?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io), which is apparently a 17-minute visual poem about an ascent in a balloon. I can't get a handle on whether Cannes -- unlike air travel and the theatre and dinner on the town -- was more casual back then, or if they were just living into the fullness of their selves. Because this, by today's yardstick, is not so much Cannes as Coachella. The current organizers, who not so long ago excoriated women for wearing flats on the red carpet, would have an absolute apoplexy if there was a push for Canneschella. If it's a comfort to them, at least they have a fair bit of sheers and nudity in common.
