Julia is wearing a black and white velvet gown designed by Valentino. \* 28/6/01: Roberts was said to be distraught after boyfriend Benjamin Bratt ended their relationship. The Oscar-winner and Bratt, who had been together for three and a half years, split last month, his spokeswoman confirmed. There is speculation that the relationship may have ended because of Roberts' deepening friendship with the actor George Clooney and her refusal to commit herself to marriage. She did pretty well with this one, though. It mostly held up, and I think it helps that there were other things to focus on besides that. ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2021/04/5137407y-1618551099.jpg) Mandatory Credit: Photo by Bei/Shutterstock (5137407y) Julia Roberts beiDEAD0100325\_022 03-25-2001 Beverly Hills, CA 73rd Annual Academy Award Deadline Room Julia Roberts - Oscar Winner for Best Actress (Erin Brockovich) Photo®Laurie Wierzbicki/BEImages See? The stripe did well for her. Maybe she had to yank it back in place before her photos, but if she did, it went there obediently. ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2021/04/shutterstock_editorial_452932cs-1618550567.jpg) Mandatory Credit: Photo by Alex Berliner/BEI/Shutterstock (452932cs) 03-25-2001 Beverly Hills, CA 73rd Annual Academy Award Arrivals Benjamin Bratt and Julia Roberts (nominated for best Actress for "Erin Brockovich") Photo®Alex Berliner/BEI OSCAR AWARDS, LOS ANGELES, AMERICA - 2001 beiARR0100325\_015 LOVE the back. (Photo by Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic, Inc) This is the year she came back to present Best Actor -- as is traditionally the job of the reigning Best Actress -- and she gave it to Denzel ("Training Day") by pausing and saying, "I LOVE MY LIFE. Denzel Washington." And that is when we realized she is a bit of a "make it about myself" person. At least here if she got nervous, her armpits were already aired out. ## 2004 ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2021/04/shutterstock_editorial_6417229l-1618550594.jpg) Mandatory Credit: Photo by Joe Cavaretta/AP/Shutterstock (6417229l) Roberts Actress Julia Roberts, Oscar presenter, arrives at the Kodak Theatre for the 76th annual Academy Awards ceremony in Los Angele, Ca., .
