# Julianne Moore Returns to Cannes

Well. Okay. I might have guessed Marchesa, honestly. This is... I fully expected to eyeroll it, but I actually think parts of it are really striking, especially on this stage. Cannes is one of the few events outside the Met where people can get a little outlandish and have it feel appropriate, but this doesn't seem wholly committed to itself. It's lukewarm on its own attempt at craziness. As such, it has only conditionally interesting workmanship and gives zero shape to her body and then puts a bird carcass right over the widest ("widest"; I am not implying J.Mo is wide) part of her hips. I like the fiery top of the bodice, but it's almost like this needed a week more to bake.

The scarf hanging down the back might also be more than it needs. Also, this angle shows off the pelvic drama a bit more clearly.

That's pretty, though. Do we often see her in such vintage-y cuts? It doesn't feel like it.

Okay, and I LOVE this. That's a perfect dress for meandering around the South of France, even though I have never done that.

Hot question for the makeup experts in Fug Nation: What usually IS the thinking behind a weak lip with a red dress? I could see them worrying that a high-necked dress would bleed right into a red lip, or be too matchy, but the light lip always distracts me -- as if the makeup was designed for a different outfit and they forgot to reconceptualize.
