## Kamala in Carolina Herrera (suit) and Tory Burch (blouse)

I am not sure whether either fashion credit is confirmed, or merely rumored, but they're both American brands and that's as it should be. The white is a clear nod to the suffragette movement -- many of the newly elected women from 2018 wore white to their swearing-in, for example, and Hillary wore it on her campaign trail as well. People have wondered if the pussy-bow blouse [was quiet shade at Melania](https://www.vanityfair.com/style/2016/10/melania-trump-pussy-bow-blouse-debate?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io), but honestly, I don't think it is. I don't think Kamala cares about what Melania wore in 2016, but also: The pussy-bow blouse has been a feminist symbol [since women broke into the corporate world and made it their version of the power suit](https://www.lovesewingmag.co.uk/dressmaking/item/the-history-of-the-pussy-bow-blouse/?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io). To me, that's the reference.

This is a fashion site, though, and so I have to say it: I don't think I would have buttoned this, knowing I would be doing a lot of waving. The whole thing rides up awkwardly. But when she was at the podium, it was perfect, and I think that was priority No. 1.

## The Crew

Now, who the heck knows how long this had been picked out, and there's a pandemic, but those caveats aside: I do wish the pants were tailored better. Again, not priority No. 1, but I noticed it and so here we are.

I pulled this so you can see Jill's shoes. Her very pretty dress (or is it separates?) is by Oscar de la Renta. She wore a floral D&G at the last debate, I believe, and I am THRILLED she did not repeat them here. This is a very similar idea -- we may be in for four years of florals, and I am not mad at that at ALL -- but by an American designer, and it catches the eye beautifully but does not pull focus. Which I think was very intentional. Kamala glows in the white. She stands out. And I DO think the team did that purposefully, because the moment is not lost on them. They know people are watching with their daughters, and granddaughters, with tears in their eyes.
