East Anglia's Children's Hospices Appeal Launch

I am warning you upfront that I downloaded a LOT of photos today. It's been a long week -- yes, I know it's only Tuesday -- and I have already lost control of my download finger. But I also know you want to look in closer detail at people's necklaces and their earrings and their eye makeup.

While you eyeball this dress, it seems like a good time for an Informative Caption: "HRH The Duchess of Cambridge visits The Nook Appeal at Norfolk Showground. She is the Royal Patron of East Anglia Children's Hospices (EACH) who are launching a £10m fundraising appeal to build a new children's hospice in Norfolk." Her esteemed escort is dapper in those sunglasses.

The Express has greater detail about this event, but it turns out these tea pots and cups are not just, like, an artsy display of whimsical pottery (you look at enough events attended by royals and you never know. I've seen so many pictures of Camilla looking fascinated by cheese) but in fact were in part designed by Kate and are being sold to raise money for this children's hospice fund, which is a very good cause. (In the spirit of fair warning, the story to which I linked is very sad in parts.)

(The cups and pots are actually quite cheery. People's Simon Perry has a better shot of them on his Instagram.)

I would wear my version of this on Thanksgiving, if my family Thanksgiving involved me dressing nicely. (My family Thanksgiving involves mostly constantly prodding the turkey nervously because I never think it's doing to come out right, no matter how many times I make it, so I will primarily be cloaked in anxiety.) It's festive.

I know this is weird to say about a dress that is essentially really plain, but I like the back of it. Something about the way the seaming is done appeals to me. Also appealing is the jaunty ponytail. (I too have a ponytail today, but it's whatever the opposite of "jaunty" is. "Janky"? Jaunty and Janky feel like the 21st century update to Goofus and Gallant.)

Apparently, Kate was greeted by local schoolkids, as happens at every one of these events, but more importantly: How cute is this kid, with her curtsying and her braid? I love her. She had a good day at school today.

Not for nothing, but I'm also interested in what YOU'RE wearing, Blonde in the Striped Shirt. Tell me more about your stripes.

Royally Played: The Duchess of Cambridge in Katherine Hooker
No coat! It must be temperate in England today for Kate to be out in just her shirtsleeves. (Dress sleeves?) Anyway, despite not getting to indulge in coat porn, this pleases me. And it's because I just realized, as I type, that I own basically this exact dress, although mine is really old from J Crew and What Would Kate Do? tells me this is bespoke Katherine Hooker (presumably bespoke because Room Needed to be Made for The Royal Fetus?). Whatever. We're basically the same. [Photos: Splash, Getty]
