2005: Justin Timberlake

No, Justin. No. How did we not NOTICE back then, you guys? Did he bamboozle us all?

2005: Blake Lively

If you are in a movie the crux of which is about a magical pair of pants, you should be BOUND BY CONTRACT to wear ACTUAL good pants. Blake looks like she hasn't taken these off in two years.

2005: Blake Lively, America Ferrera, Amber Tamblyn and Alexis Bledel

That these women are still friends in real life is a delight to me. Screw all the dumb tropes about women being unable to support each other. However, I genuinely do think they needed to support Blake and Amber toward better outfits. I don't love America's shirts either, honestly. But damn, are they all charming in the movie, and I really enjoy the divergent paths they've walked since.

2005: Paula Abdul

I THINK this is from 2005? Let's count it, so that we can look at it, because it's hilarious. She looks like a psychedelic milkmaid.

2005: Jessica Alba

Today, that would be a dress. Probably not lined -- well, SHE might line it, at this point in her life. But few would.

2005: Hilary Duff

One thing I do like about this era is when I spot simple heels that don't have gigantic platforms built into them. But I did not like all the hip ties.

2005: Haylie Duff

TOO MANY HIP TIES.

2005: Cameron Diaz

There is something astonishingly relatable about Cameron Diaz showing up to this event with a full shoulder bag and a scarf knotted to it, like she's about to check in at LAX.

2005: Halle Berry

As this slideshow goes, that's not bad. I might be into it on its own merits, even. ALSO because these days someone would wear it with nothing under it.

2005: Alyssa MIlano

Sure!

2005: Hayden Christensen

Blazer by Men's Wearhouse; hair by Crisco.

2005: Brenda Song

Brenda just had a short arc on Station 19, so it was VERY jarring for me to stumble upon her wearing a low-slung mourning tutu.

2005: Katie Cassidy and Jesse McCartney

THESE TWO. First, I forgot about him. Second, I watch or have watched too much TV with Katie in it to forget about her, but I DID forget they had ever dated. HIs jacket is pretty cool, especially for that era. She looks normal. Everything is normal. They're so happy! He won THREE awards on this night for his album!

2006

And then next year they came together, and he looks like he's doing really poor Pete Wentz cosplay, and she dressed as Bo Peep AND WORE SPATS.

2006: Rihanna

But it's all good, because then Rihanna taught everyone the mambo so that they could perform it with Patrick Swayze. No one did the lift.

2006: The Jonai

WE HAVE JONAI. IN DIRTY SHOES.

2006: Bruce Willis and Avril Lavigne

I was going to joke, "Wow, I forgot these two dated!" And then I looked it up, AND THEY DID... not. Zing. They were voices in an animated movie together, and I found a Buzzfeed article about how Avril never appeared to look at him on the red carpet and he was always sort of hovering weirdly behind her, and it made me laugh.

2006: Will Smith and kids

Look at these noodles. Willow really has always been her father's clone.

2006: Cameron Diaz

Is that a hoodie, or just... a cowl? I need to talk to you about your stripes, Cam.

2006: Lance Armstrong

Remember when we liked this dude and thought he was excellent without cheating? Yeah.

2006: Justin Timberlake

Better, but I confess to a fiendish chuckle at the pit stains.

2006: Evan Ross

He is now married to Ashlee Simpson, whom I guess the kids did not choose this year because I didn't find a photo of her.

2006

That is basically a J. Crew rugby shirt redone as a dress, and while I am not mad at it, I'd have done it without the fruitless waist tie.

2006

Eve is like, "Whatever, I zipped my pants in 0.002 seconds and was out the door."

2006: Jessica Alba

That's cute. I forgot there was ever a time when celebs carried REAL purses on the red carpet.

2006: Hilary and Haylie Duff

They were really trying it with Haylie Duff for a while, huh?

2006: Sasha Cohen

This brought up SO MANY FEELINGS about her figure-skating career.

2006: Lindsay Lohan

At the time, we were so dismayed that sh was wearing a dress made of unbleached paper towels. Now, I hope she hung onto it. Might come in handy during a pandemic.

2007: Rihanna

Love it, love it, love it.

2007: Hayden Panettiere

Not bad!

2007: Katie Cassidy and Jesse McCartney

To complete my fun facts about them: In 2011, Jesse released a fragrance for women called Wanted By Jesse. It felt important to tell you that.

2007: Keke Palmer

I did NOT remember so many superfluous belts from this era, but here they have been

2007: The Fannings

LOOK AT THESE FETUSES. Dakota looks eerile the same, though, actually? Like I could slap that head on a current photo of her and you'd be like, "Yeah, okay, that tracks."

2007: Hilary Duff

Flying solo this time! And in a decent dress, too.

2007: Nia Long

What a polterwang-y romper.

2007: Vanessa Hudgens

We were all so innocent in 2007.

2007: Jessica Alba

And all wearing boot-cut pants.

2007: Nelly

Is THIS why people got confused about whether belts should actually go around your hips?

2007: Jada Pinkett Smith

True Religion jeans are truly an emblem of an era.

2007: The Sprouse Twins

I have NO idea which one is Riverdale Sprouse and which one is Barbara Palvin Sprouse. Riverdale might be the one on the right?

2007: Zac Efron

Wow, that white belt is a real commitment.

2007: Ciara

I would be thrilled if she busted that out today. In a general sense, although I'd also delight in it if literally TODAY she put it on and documented it.

2007: Nicole Kidman

Those pants are so long they're practically also socks.

2007: Bindi and Terri Irwin

Bindi just got married. Drink THAT in.

2007: Gwen Stefani

I think THIS is how I would always like to think of Gwen.

The Kids Choice Awards: Enter Rihanna and The Jonai

We're in 2005-2007, folks.
