One of the last Oscars races that had any kind of question-mark -- though of course there is room for a shock -- is Best Actress. But after Emma Stone snagged the BAFTA, Lily Gladstone nabbed the SAG, becoming the first Indigenous person to win an individual acting award. And few people in the room were as happy for her as Emma Stone, who jumped up and clapped delightedly (I think this is genuine, and also, that she is keenly aware the Internet is going to be enraged if she beats Lily on March 10 and that for her losing would be a weird relief). There is only a sliver of overlap -- SAG members account for about 14 percent, I think, of the whole Academy voting body -- so it's hard to say what it all means, but momentum might be in her favor? Regardless, she seems humble and emotional every time, and gave a wonderful speech, and I hope that all these firsts she's racking up are NOT her lasts.
