Ruth Negga

Ruth looks fabulous in this. It screams Period Piece, in the way that Bridgerton is one -- where the vibe gets anachronistic at times but it WORKS so who cares. Did that even make sense? Well, the point is, this is gorgeous.

I hope some of you have gone to see this, or will go and report back, because I would LOVE to know how they go toe-to-toe.

Asia Kate Dillon

Asia, who is non-binary, played TV's first non-binary main character on Billions, and is now playing Malcolm. As much as I love that Ruth got all dolled up, I can't imagine how stressful it would be to have to walk a red carpet before you go on-stage, so I respect them for keeping it comfy.

Maria Dizzia

Maria (Orange is the New Black, The First Lady, and many more) plays Lady Macduff and if that cat's cradle of a harness is how she's keeping her pants up, can someone PLEASE take her belt shopping?

He plays Fleance. I am in love with his suit. What can I say? I love tots in bow ties.

"I have to go walk the carpet? But I got stage makeup on my shirt! SHIT. Well. We're gonna do some Napoleon hands and we're gonna make do."

He's one of the understudies, and I like all of this except perhaps the black socks. I don't know. What sock color WOULD one do? I might have looked for a pattern that plays off the blue a little.

Cool suit, sir.

Amber Gray

Amber is playing Banquo, and her list of credits is ALSO long: Hadestown, Natasha & Pierre, Escape at Dannemora, The Underground Railroad... she is obviously super versatile. I love the idea of this, but can't help thinking the design looks like a drop-waisted apron.

Michael Patrick Thornton (Lennox)

You probably have a Hey It's That Guy feeling about him, because he's done SO much stuff. He had two spinal strokes in 2003 that nearly killed him, and I found this part of his bio fascinating: "During his 2016 performance in the title role of Richard III (The Gift at Steppenwolf) Thornton became the first actor to ever act onstage while wearing a robotic exoskeleton, pairing not only an actor with a disability with a character with a disability but furthermore using cutting edge technology in order to theatrically complicate the character of Richard III and its discussion around disability, ableism, and representation. The production has since been the subject of podcasts, published essays, and academic papers."

Danai Gurira

And now, to the guests! Of COURSE Danai has an amazing coat. Of course. I have missed her.

Beth Malone

I love Beth from when she was in Fun Home. Can I pretend I didn't see the shirt?

Candice Bergen

PLEASE tell me she flips those shades up like she's Dwayne Wayne.

Michael Stipe

I like his coat. It doesn't really go with his outfit, but I suspect that's because it's just his actual coat.

Bryan Cranston

And Bryan's shoes maybe ought to be black. Picky notes. Picky blogger.

Oscar Isaac and Elvira Lind

I'm always happy to see these two.

Roseanne Cash

I might need glittery boots. Actually, what I really need is a manicure. I actually do not particularly like getting manicures and pedicures, but my nails need a jolt.

The Scottish Play Opened on Broadway
Ruth Negga is making her Broadway debut in Macbeth, opposite Daniel Craig, an opening that was delayed when Bond got Covid but which now gets to close out a week in which we've (happily!) had an unusual amount of theatre content (Funny Girl, Andre de Shields, the Spring Awakening concert). All of this is really making me miss New York, even though we haven't traveled there regularly in ages and didn't have much time for shows even when we did. STILL. I would love to tromp past these marquees on my way to the subway, at least. [Photos: Stephen Lovekin/Shutterstock]
