And finally, to this. We've talked about how they supposedly hated each other during filming, and their characters had a tempestuous time of it also. My theory -- which no one asked for, obviously -- is that while I don't at all expect every pair of co-stars to catch feelings for each other, when you are both single and shooting a hot-and-heavy romance movie, and you start out loathing each other, and then you are single LATER when your paths cross again... all that passion is gonna go somewhere. They won Best Kiss and memorably recreated it on-stage, which was a momentary distraction from her terrible top. Also, props to him for the surprise activism, such as it was. Somebody mentioned the other day that his shirt was first time they'd heard of Darfur, which means it did its job.

And again! I am not clear on any aesthetic upsides to her dress, though, frankly. It's a messy block of satin.

She looks GREAT in that, though.
And AGAIN -- I mentioned this in the Ryan Reynolds/Alanis piece -- you see him being a little schmoopy with Rachel here, and the compare that with the INCREDIBLY secretive personal lives they BOTH currently lead (she had a baby recently and hardly anyone knew she was pregnant until she was 8 months along), and wonder if this was the big Great First Famous Love that burned them. (She also had a pretty acrimonious breakup with Michael Sheen later.)

I can't remember why she had the pink hair -- whimsy? Or a movie? -- but this wasn't its best iteration. Meanwhile, with that head suit, Ryan looks like the Chief Inspector who confidently has the wrong idea about who the murderer is.
I love her coat. They are, by the way, talking to Al Gore and I didn't realize I'd downloaded one of the pics without him in it until it was too late. It's more amusing to me to imagine that they are staring at the menu in the window of a restaurant and trying to decide if anything on it appeals.

This, I believe, was near the end. Her drape is hovering perilously in that no man's land between top and dress, unwilling to commit to being either, and so she just had to guess. He is back to a buzz cut, and looks as bemused to be there as he does today. Some things, at least, do not change.
