Patti LuPone (featured role, Company)
I love her striped coat. I have historically never been a huge fan of PLP as a performer, but I like what she stands up for, and that makes me feel warmer and fuzzier about the rest of it.
Ruth Negga (lead, Macbeth)
This has long lab-coat vibes. She is the soothing medical director at your cult, who is here to take a lot of your blood and prescribe you a lot of "vitamins" and "health pills" and answers all your questions with evasive positivity.
Sutton Foster (lead, The Music Man)
I enjoy this, mostly, but the black strings hanging off the shirt don't seem at all necessary.
Hugh Jackman (The Music Man)
They seem very pleased. It would have been a surprise if BOTH major celeb musicals had been frozen out.
Uzo Aduba (Clyde's)
She's up for Featured Actress in a Play (which I gather is the Tony version of "supporting"). I like that skirt but the black shirt and shoes might be too heavy with it.
Kara Young (Clyde's), Lynn Nottage (Clyde's), Uzo Aduba
Kara is up against Uzo, and Lynn wrote the play.
Sam Rockwell (American Buffalo)
Yes, indeed, that is lead actor nominee Sam Rockwell, of the Sam Rockwell Sam Rockwells. The mustache threw me. (I am perhaps easily thrown.)
Rachel Dratch (POTUS)
Rachel, too, is surprised it's Sam Rockwell. (She's up for Featured Actress for POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive.)
Kenita R. Miller (for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf)
I love her dress, and that she is like, "My feet need arch support to tread these boards."
Matt Doyle (actor in a featured role, Company)
He looks very nice. I have no further comment. Maybe it needed a white shirt? Well, I guess I did have further comment.
AJ Shively (featured actor, Paradise Square)
I love a blackwatch plaid. If this isn't technically one, it's close.
Joaquina Kalukango (lead actress, Paradise Square)
I love the orange and the blue here. I feel like Uzo needed those shoes with a white blouse. It's a REVERSE Uzo Aduba shoe intervention.
Julie White (featured role, POTUS)
She plays the chief of staff in POTUS, and the Variety rave really makes me wish I could see this one. Hopefully it'll tour soon.
Sidney DuPont (featured role, Paradise Square)
I love his jacket, and somehow the lack of shirt and addition of leather globes just really delights me, like he MIGHT be about to do some magic.
Jennifer Simard (featured role, Company)
Some of those black lines look like tape the designer forgot to pull off. There are a lot of them.
Chuck Cooper (featured role, Trouble in Mind)
I love a distinguished gent in a hat.
Emilio Sosa
Two-time Project Runway runner-up Emilio Sosa is a Big Freaking Deal. He's nominated for the costumes for Trouble in Mind, but it turns out he's ALSO the chair of the American Theatre Wing board. Hot damn!
LaChanze (lead role, Trouble in Mind)
We were JUST talking about her (LaChanze's daughter is on the new Star Trek). She looks super.
Jesse Williams (featured actor, Take Me Out)
I'm sure you knew he was on Broadway, because someone leaked a photo of his nude scene. Patti LuPone would be FURIOUS, and rightly.
Jesse Tyler Ferguson (featured actor, Take Me Out)
He's giving me Ed Rooney Buys a Spring Suit.
David Morse, Paula Vogel, Mary-Louise Parker
David and MLP are leads in How I Learned to Drive. I don't love the blue and black together on MLP, and she seems notably more casual than everyone else?
Billy Crystal and Shoshana Bean
They're up for Mr. Saturday Night. I am delighted for them both, and wish she was not wearing a tent.
Ruben Santiago-Hudson (lead, Lackawanna Blues)
Everything is good and right here.
Rob McClure (lead, Mrs Doubtfire)
I enjoy the retro flair of his shirt.
Myles Frost (lead, MJ)
He is playing Michael Jackson, and I am not sure HOW, exactly, I missed that there is a musical right now about Michael Jackson?!?
Mare Winningham (lead, Girl From The North Country)
Mare looks good, as ever, and does this mean we're gonna get Anthony Edwards -- her new husband! -- at the Tonys? Goose lives!
Alfie Allen (featured role, Hangmen)
Lily Allen doing theatre on the West End is less surprising to me when I recall that her brother is a successful actor. His sweatshirt looks like a half-steeped teabag, though. And HE kind of reminds me of Harry Styles's older cousin.
Gabby Beans (lead, The Skin of our Teeth)
This is all cute until we get to the boots, which look like something she'd have thrown on if she was afraid she'd be tromping through puddles.
Jared Grimes (featured role, Funny Girl)
Jared is the lone rep for Funny Girl, and I had to look up why I recognize him, and turns out it's from Manifest (a terrible show my friend and I started watching together because we like to pick one high-concept show we assume will get cancelled after one season, but it DIDN'T, and now we're too stubborn to stop). He is not the problem with Manifest. He is good on it. And presumably also in Funny Girl. I hope THAT is not an awkward, sad workplace today.
